What the fuck is Cleopatra wearing :D

MUH EGYPT
Cleopatra looks darker than she is supposed to be, on par with a random egyptian NPC girl. Are they going with the 'we wuz kangs' route?

I am not up to date on scholarship in regards to ancient Egyptian population, but why would it be strange that random NPCs are black? I thought the nobility even before Ptolemaic times was closer to Levant and Mediterranean, but some rando trash on the street?

I have bad feelings about this game in context of gameplays.
Locations, graphics and art style seems fine, but everything else is just... wrong.
The way Bayek moves, climbing, animations.
Combat looks straight broken, enemies deal too low dmg while we are making too much. Adrenaline move is unnecesary too.
Execution of that even more, it's a powerful move and for instance with spear we are impaling(!) someone, and then we continue to fight with him. The same enemies can with us. That's seriusly anticlimatic.
Aiming arrow, gods help us, who thought having a manually directed arrow is good?

No video really grabs me - and I dig the era - but somehow it doesn't convey a soul - everything looks too generic. The actual game may be totally different of course.

Razib Khan on the subject. He starts out with a general overview, but gets into the genetics after a bit. Basically, the ancient Egyptians were descended from Levantine pops, had a little subsaharan african admixture by the ptolemaic period, and then the Islamic slave trade brought in more. Copts are closer to the Ptolemaic Egyptians than the average muslim Egyptian. Some picture references: Roman era Fayum portraits, copts, copt. Here's the recent paper he bases much of this on.

As for the probability of running into blacks in the streets... Seems rather like that recent discussion of whether this BBC educational cartoon shows a "typical" Roman British family. Mary Beard seems to feel that a Berber governor was evidence of blacks in Britain, whereupon Nicholas Nassim Taleb went apeshit on Twitter and wrote a rant on Medium. All of these 'Roman times were really diverse' types keep trying to connect North African pops with SSAs ("himself in fact an African, from Libya", ), and keep dodging the question of a definition of diversity ("I’m not sure that fixing on a specific figure necessarily gets us very far; it’s relative, surely? 0.1% would indeed be very non-diverse in modern Britain, but was that necessarily the case in a premodern society where long-distance migration was generally rare?").

No shit. It's Assassin's Creed. And Ubisoft.

Tip: If you have a weak helmet, don't equip a shield. Having a shield will make enemies shoot you in the head.

Tip: Getting hit in the head might make you drop your shield.

Tip: If an enemy blocks your attacks with a shield, shoot them in the head.

Tip: A headshot is a very effective way of bringing down an enemy's defense.

Tip: Having a strong helmet will make it easier to hold on to your shield when you get shot in the head.
But what if he hids the head behind the shield?

Then you shoot them in the balls since everyone is wearing a skirt.
Is this the reason why private armies of eunuchs/amazons were so popular during that time? Can't shoot the balls if they don't have them. I did not expect that level of nuanced historical realism for an assassin's creed game.
