Her[Carie’s] favorite games are Dishonored, Morrowind and Mass Effect
Unironically Awoved has a lot in common with Morrowind: you arrive on a ship to a strange land as an envoy from jungle Empire; you seem to exhibit some powers that uniquely tie to indigenous beliefs, granted to you by a true God(?) to battle an illness that plagues local populace; you arrive at the shore of a port town, with familiar architecture, while over places on the island are inhospitable wastelands, swamps, volcanic mounts, magical shrooms and ruins of the mysteriously vanished ancient atheist civilization, with superior technological level; the main antagonist is wearing a mask with glowing eyes and supposed to be dead; the game itself very different from previous installments in the series, leaning toward 3D action than CRPG, directed by other people and targets the audience of XBox gamers.

Tldr: Feargus was right, Avowed isn’t obsidian’s Skyrim, it’s obsidian’s Morrowind! (probably going to be boring slop regardless)

  • Companions don't have true builds but "powers to upgrade into"
  • You can't give companions weapons or equipment (no inventory management at all?)
For God's sake not more pissing Veilguard bollocks. Fucking quip dispensers, porn generators and radial abilities, nothing more. Why does actual party management have to be a sin?
Casualization and actionification of RPGs.
Outer Worlds also had stripped-down companion leveling, but you could change their armor and weapon. Guess Patel feels very strongly that companions need to keep their iconic looks and weapons. Only without even having stat upgrades like jrpgs, Torment, Dragon Age II, tsk.

Hi.

That is a shame and will take some getting used to from me after the first two games. With so much loot some early proponents of Avowed spoke of, it was exploring and finding treasure and how unique that treasure was. Gosh you'd think it would be best to share it with your companions to upgrade their gear. That was always the most enjoyable part of the first two games right? You'd hit a dungeon or clear an area, head back to the city or town and grab an empty table in the common room to look through everything you found and divvy it up. So we will either be exploring a lot and finding less treasure if it is only for the protagonist, or finding way too much of it that the unique items simply become left behind as we already found 3 of the same previously. Will every chest around the corner be just a gear upgrade?

Something else I noticed in the videos are YELLOW CHESTS. These chests have unique gear compared to the BLUE CHESTS. Gosh, just make them normal looking. Maybe the game will have a chest filter like Diablo so you know not to bother with the BLUE CHESTS :hahano: Very gimmicky.

Thanks,
Sherry

Because the more variety there is in player capabilities the harder it is to balance the game. It's easier to just make every party as close to identical as you can get away with.

I really don't see the appeal for this game, a very generic looking first person fantasy game with weird first person animations. Then i don't really think Obsidian have ever really made a good game either (never played alpha protocol and can't stand star wars). I figure the brand is popular solely because they are AAA Western RPG.

PoE1 i did 1 play-through and did enjoy it, I remember the ending being decent enough. I have 40 hours trying to get into PoE2 and I just find the game way too boring to continue playing. That's it though, not a single game i would put in my top 10 if pressed, yet they are extremely popular.

On western studio's.. i actually don't think i care if all of them went bust. Valve's the only one im interested to see what they put out but i don't care about MP games.

0:51- Enemies level aren't scale with player's progression, enemies difficulty is hub based.
1:37- Avowed will not have an end game continuance, " There's a point of no return shortly before the end game really starts". 4:04- No new game+ option.
2:51- Obsidian/Microsoft aren't planning on releasing physicals copies of Avowed, might indicated that Avowed was planned to be an xbox's gamepass fodder.
3:23- ranged weapons have infinite ammo.
4:02- 60fps conformed.
5:18- Patel on Avowed's production difficulties: "creative pivot around the time i joined, lots of changes midstream, keeping the game moving forward, continuing to make content and leaving ourselves time to iterate".
5:42- Avowed feature 2 quest related companions (in addition to the original 4).
7:14- Avowed got it's name by Parker (referred as "previous team leadership").
7:53- PoE fans desires immersive sims.
8:42- Avowed will minimize lore dumps (through lore tool tips).
11:04- On hardcore mode: "There is Path of the Dammed... enemies hit harder, you do less (damage)".
11:51- Reassuring statement from Patel (Timestamped):
