They already said more than once that they still are not sure of how many classes and subclasses the final game will support, but that there will definitely be a lot more in the final game.
Possibly even all of them, in the end.

Even with all the options implemented, the customization will still be ultra bare-bones. Someone should mod something like Spheres of Might (currently has a playtest beta for a 5E port, should be finished by the time this leaves EA) into this and Solasta so there's actual build variety.

It's definitely... Pretty dang simple. 5th edition is nice for big groups and pen and paper because fights move fast and there's not a ton of looking up, but it's not crunchy like 3.5 was.

Still more customization than BG 1 and 2, though, a lot more.

Just standard 5th edition. A rogue can become an assassin or scout or mastermind or thief specialization at level 3; a cleric has rather different abilities depending on his domain (Grave clerics can stop critical hits, war clerics can melee well, etc.)
Paladins get to pick from a few oaths that are pretty cool. Oath of Vengeance for nice dps, for example. Every class gets a "subclass" or specialization in some way, just some pick it at 1 and others at 3.

Basically like the AD&D kits, except sometimes you pick them at level 1 and for other classes you specialize at level 3.

Only having 2 subclasses for the only 6 classes is pretty terrible though. There's so many cool subclasses, like 5 for each class in 5th edition, if not more. Dlc bait I guess.
Yeah, I know how subclasses work. I just started Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden (the best module so far, in my opinion).

I just don't understand if they are subtly implying that not all classes will have subclasses in BG3.
