Maybe D&D wasn't meant to be a gay pride parade.
Invent a time machine, travel back to the 1970s, and convince Ed Greenwood that his personal AD&D campaign setting is not the place for expressing his sexual fantasies. :M

To be fair, BG3 is rather expression of modern big city sensibilities, not Ed Greenwood's free love hippy creep fantasies - there is no casual orgies, incest or other weird Greenwood stuff.

Thought it would be mediocre, at worst simply bad...but it really one of a kind.
Maybe the absolute worst game ever made, period, at least of AAA releases last couple decades...

Only gave it a try because it made the 100 best games list here...but really belongs on a 100 worst games list, with BG3 near the top.
TBH, didn't play it to completion, quit very early, after a scene of two monsters butt-f***ing in a barn...seriously Larian, you know kids play this game?!?

It's not just the (gay, furry) pornography, the game makes no sense, Larian just threw in a bunch of s**t from the D&D universe with no
rhyme or reason...Mind Flayers! Dragons! Githyankis! Trip through Hell Itself Attacked by Demons! That's just the prelude, before you even start playing....
And the prelude is the high point, it gets steadily worse as you advance...

The only good/accurate thing about the Codex top 100 review was describing the game as a 'freakshow'...and perhaps the reviewer is
correct that this is the best of Larian's recent games, can't say I haven't played the 'DOS' series, though if they are worse than this they must be pretty bad indeed!

Also the game is horribly balanced, for instance there is one conversation which requires passing *4* quick consecutive dice rolls, lose just one and Game Over.
Fun!
And yet the original Baldur's Gate 3 still has far better gameplay than BG1&2. :smug:
It's because it is turn based.

Guess we can look forward to some really bad RPGs playing copycat next few years...

IIRC some studios commented early that BG3 is a once-in-a-lifetime thing and that they can't be realistically expected to adhere to the BG3's new "gold standard" :smug:

Congratulations on finishing the game. I had to take an long break from it (9-12 months) and it's possible that I won't get back into it. I was foolish enough to try a more or less completionist run (within the story choices I selected) so I got completely fatigued with it. In Act 2, I was contemplating giving it a 6.5/10, but later suspected that I was a bit too generous: Spoiler. I still don't think it's a bad game in the context of the AAA slop that gets released nowadays, but it leaves a bit too much to be desired and seems far from setting a gold standard.

I used to semi-defend FR as a "eh, good for what it is popamole slop setting". Boy oh boy, BG3 cured me of that.
The best result from Baldur's Gate 3 is the spreading awareness that the Forgotten Realms is the worst D&D/AD&D setting ever created. +M
And that bear sex sells! Oh, wait... :negative:

BG3 is full of cringe and trash, with two very clearly unfinished acts as it's customary with Larian, but the combat is reasonably enjoyable and most situations can be tackled in multiple ways (through gameplay, not simply dialogue selection) and offer different outcomes, which is still incredibly rare in the year of our Lord 2025.
The good parts that are supposedly in BG3 - the ones you mentioned - make me even more pissed off because they bundled them with all the crap. Can't they make their crap like "normal developers"? Bad optimization, unfinished, bugs, bad writing, poor "AI", low difficulty? No, they have to add woke nonsense on top of that as well.
