In combat, The Bard’s Tale IV will have a similar feel to first-person phase-based combat games going all the way back to The Bard’s Tale I all the way up to Might & Magic X – Legacy. While we can draw a connection to the combat of those games, we’re going to heavily improve on many aspects of that style of combat system. One example of this is by decoupling the animations from the inputs. Once you’ve learned your characters, it will allow you to play at a quicker pace, without having to wait for the same 5 second fireball animation to finish before you can make your next move. We’ll have more to say on combat in future updates.

IIRC in Might & MagiX you didn't need to wait for the animations to finish, the active character switched instantly to the next one after pressing an action. Maybe he mixed it up with Wizardry 8 where you had to wait 5 seconds.

Hmm, classes seem to be very "standard", except for the conjurer. What exactly is the role of the conjurer class? Is he literally conjuring temporary equipment/supplies for the rest of the party (like you could in Morrowind)? Or is he more like an enchanter, who buffs existing weapons/armor? Can someone who played the originals briefly explain this class?
Uh... those are the classes from the first Bard's Tale games... SHOCKING ISN'T IT?

I hope they don't make races which look too much alike... for example in Wiz8 I could hardly distinguish Hobbit, Gnome, Dwarf or Felpurr, Rawulf

Yeah, shocking that the devs would use the same shit selection of classes in their new game.

Perhaps you're talking about the standard "priest" class. When I think of a "cleric," I think a hybrid support melee character that uses a mace and shield. The D&D style cleric was always a hybrid melee/magic user since its creation.
The problem is that most of the people associate this with the standard cleric class from all the mmo and some rpgs. I loved this in NWN2 where you could choose the priests specialisation. In ADD i played a priest of the death god, and my group had quite a surprise as i stated that i can kill and control undead but not heal. But yes the cleric is a priest class that is between a priest and a fighter and other example of a priest class is the druid. And some priest classes can be quite good.

It's sad to know that MCA won't be involved in the making of Fallout 4. It'd be a landmark on his gaming career :(
Too bad for MCA, though. F4 will be an instant CRPG classic anyway.

Matt has quite the luck: Fargo gifts him the reliquary box for free, because Matt was always promoting RPGs. .... I'm not sure if i would gift him the box after the last interview with Heineman, but Fargo seems to be more generous the more he is successful. This KS proves this.

We are far, far from the exciting Wizardry 8 class which had Alchemist, Psionic, Samurai, Ninja and above all the very original gadgeter.

I did not followed the update closely though so i may have missed some interesting bit about that but it seems a damn long way to go to beat W8 character system unfortunately.

The original Bard's Tale were a rip-off of Wizardry anyway and what you call the "Wizardry 8" character system has been around in that form since at least 1990 (Wizardry 6). The only major addition in W8 was the Gadgeteer.

Seems like the pot is eventually exhausted. Only 1000 bucks today...

Great interview with Matt Chat btw.
I got the impression Fargo would have liked 3rd person combat, however it would require more funds. It's probably better anyways, that it remains a full fledged blobber.

3rd person combat would have been fine so long as the exploration was first person. Its always nice to play dress up and see how characters look when you give them arms and armor.
