Yes I'm also aware of this, but these games also fleece hundreds or thousands of dollars from fools. All for digital crap.

The problem is that those practices eventually seep into everything. Horse Armor was a silly $0.99 add-on, now Evolve announced the "massive DLC support" before we even knew what the game would look like.

Also the guy who burned his kids' college money on "fake spaceships" ( ) sounds like he has an actual psychological problem, not just a "fool". I preordered a Naruto game to get extra costumes, that makes me a fool. That guy is out of control.

It didn't allow you to die?

It was pretty hard to die in the original. You have to either ignore Barry completely or refuse to deactivate the trap putting the gun back.

It is amazing how much money they've raised for Star Citizen. Imagine what Obsidian could make if they had that kind of money. They could do whatever the hell they wanted.

If I remember correctly, in some countries legal people wanted to apply casino and gambling laws to freemium games, precisely to prevent this crap. That's an actual issue with gaming, and not how revealing cleavages are. Because you might think this is just a device to point out how stupid people are, but as Clockwork Knight said, if you make this to be a normal practice then it will snowball into infinity, and there will be no turning back. Imagine an rpg in which you had to pay for rerolls when you generate your character.

Why do we have to imagine, even AAA non-online single player releases these days have pay to win elements in them beyond dlc e.g.: both EA and Ubisoft have released games with in app purchases, Dead Space 3 and Assassin's Creed Unity. Never Forget :crying eagle:. Granted those issues could be gotten around with liberal use of cheat engine/other memory scanning applications; however, for every 1 savvy consumer there probably is at least 1 tard purchasing that crap.

I really think there need to be some sort of consumer protections on this digital crap. People really shouldn't be spending thousands on digital items like this and developers should have enough decency not to take advantage of their consumers like this. I'd also like to see freemium games go the way of the dodo. Just something wrong about those games that drag out unless you spend money to speed them up unlock things to make the game easier.

Won't somebody please think of the whales!Let the morons spent their money how they see fit.For someone that is deep in gamergate your post is very ironic and make me little sad.

If I remember correctly, in some countries legal people wanted to apply casino and gambling laws to freemium games, precisely to prevent this crap.
Most of those freemium games do with real money isn't really gambling; you always get something out of it (progress in the game) even if it's ridiculously arbitrary and artificial.
With that said, I'm fully in support of there being some legal restrictions.

On the other hand, free2play MMORPGs are a pretty clear-cut instance of gambling - At least under my and any sane definition there of.
These games typically sell you things to improve your chances of upgrading your gear (I'll be generous, from 5% to 10%), and have very nasty effects if you fail (sometimes the kit loses a few ranks, in others in gets destroyed) so they also sell you items to prevent that from happening, typically in batches with limited uses.
What those items typically don't do is prevent the really rare shards/dice/whathaveyou items from being consumed in the process.
Additionally, some of the games lets you officially use real money to buy in-game currency, which you can then use to buy those really rare items.
So in effect, you can spend hundreds of dollars on all these items, and it might not net you a single thing.

There still need to be laws to protect consumers from being taken advantage of and also informed on what they're consuming. Companies and corporations will do everything they can to take advantage of you and leave you in the dark. I remember reading about the whole trans fat thing before companies were required to put it on their nutritional labels. There was all this data showing that consuming only about 5 grams of it daily increased your risk of heart disease by 50 or 100% can't remember which. It also increased other health problems. Food companies actually argued that the reason they shouldn't have to inform consumers of this being in their foods and on nutritional facts was because it would lead to people panicking. So let's not inform people of what we're putting into their bodies because we don't want to frighten them. Food companies just ended up changing their formula a bit so they could still put 0.0 grams of trans fat on their labels. Rounding down from .5 or .9 grams, don't remember which they can legally do. You have to check the ingredients label to know. If there are hydrogenated vegetable or soybean oils in your food, there is trans fat in your food.

This is just one example as well. There are plenty of other examples out there. Truth is you can't be informed on every aspect of every product out there. We're only human.

Also when you have idiots being fleeced for this kind of money, it ends up leading to more and more games like this and more fleecing of consumers. IE the decline happens because idiots are driving the market. Every game comes out with day 1 dlc and games become more and more buggier and shorter and shittier because game companies can get away with taking advantage of consumers. It ends up affecting everything negatively, not just the idiots themselves.

They're not being fleeced for money. They are fully aware that they're spending tens of thousands of dollars on things that don't exist, and they're choosing to do it anyway. Fuck 'em, these morons never should've made it past the natural selection process.

Every quarter you put in a slot machine lets you pull the lever. Don't see how this is really any different.

Actually the slot machine is probably better since it's possible to win money back.

We can't legislate away human weakness Hirato, I know you probably don't presume to do that, but when legislation is used to protect people from themselves it ends up stifling those who don't need it and failing those who do.

This is just one example as well.

That had nothing in common with spending money on virtual toys, you can't even choke on them.:)
My point was how taking advantage of idiots and that being the driving force behind the industry can affect everyone in the industry because they become the driving force. IE because idiots are being taken advantage of and losing so much money, it's driving the industry further into decline because those idiots are being focused on instead of quality games. The food example was just to show an insane example of how corporations will argue to keep you ignorant so they can take advantage of you because they don't care about you.

And I understand the argument for not infringing on people's rights because most people have self control and only a few don't, but do you really need the freedom to pay thousands of dollars on virtual ships in a game? Do you really want pay to win driving the gaming industry because that's where it's heading if stuff like this keeps up. I guarantee publishers had no idea Roberts could have made 74 million doing something like this and other companies will follow suit in the future.

The only argument you would have is that by your logic the customer would not get his moneys worth out of a digital item he paid 10k for and it needs a law to stop companies from abusing this fact because it will influence the industry. By that logic you would have to put out a price law for every luxus item, or did you think the newest IPhone is worth 900 Dollar? You cant force people to not sell overpriced if someone is there wh wants to buys that shit as long as it is not illegal, and you cant make that illegal because were would you stop?

Its not fraud because it states exactly what you get for your money and there is no promise that the game will ever get released or that these things will be useful.

To put a stop to all that you would have to convince the consumer to simply not buy such shit but I dont think that will ever happen in a world were people defend the game as not pay2win simply because they are in theory able to grind for about two years to get what I paid for to have at launch and now beeing able to shoot them to bits while they are desperatly trying to reach the point where I am.

You made a point and then refute it by saying food makers still put what they want on labels. In the end big corps have the power and money to circumvent government regulations, but small ones are put in even worse place to compete than before.

:negative:
What's the point of trying to get rich if can't spent on stupid shit.

Or some devs will go other direction just to take advantage of the disappointed by that practice.Eugen for example don't charge for DLC at all or in Path of Exile you can buy fluff for 10k.I don't want these games(rare they may be to find) gone just because of some scammers.
