This reminds me of Myst, where one SFX is (IIRC) the reverb of a screwdriver after having banged the inside of a porcelain toilet.

There's an old "behind the scenes"-video of the making of Myst, and there's a shot where they're cramming a mic down a toilet to record this.

EDIT: So I went and dug up the video:



And my memory conflated two things together into one. They recorded the reverb off a wrench to make the sound for the clock, but for the bubble-sound they recorded bubbles in a toilet, sticking the mic pretty deep into it. Otherwise they're not related.
