<a href="http://au.gamespot.com/video/939933/6193032/videoplayerpop">GameSpot have a boring 24 minute video thing up</a> (which controller do you prefer?) that mentions Fallout 3. I'm going to rip-off Briosafreak's idea and embed it in the news post too:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote><embed id="mymovie" width="432" height="362" flashvars="playerMode=embedded&movieAspect=4.3&flavor=EmbeddedPlayerVersion&skin=http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/cne_flash/production/media_player/proteus/one/skins/gamespot.png&paramsURI=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gamespot.com%2Fpages%2Fvideo_player%2Fxml.php%3Fid%3D6193032%26mode%3Dembedded%26width%3D432%26height%3D362" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="always" quality="high" name="mymovie" style="" src="http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/cne_flash/production/media_player/proteus/one/proteus2.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/></blockquote>

Word on the street is you need to skip ahead to 11:00 to see the goods. And yes, they say that "Oblivion with Guns" is "no longer an isometric, top-down view, it's essentially become a first person shooter. It's run and gun, shoot zombies and that sort of thing".
<br>
<br>
There's also an interview with Pete at 14:00. Pete says that Bethesda:
<br>
<blockquote>"Have had a large fanbase since 1994 (for Elder Scrolls) and we're used to big passionate fanbases and to doing things in a certain way and to a level of quality. We don't just want to re-iterate the same game over and over though, we want to re-invent it."
<br>
<br>
"We wanted to include real and difficult moral choices to make. New ideas like perspective (1st or 3rd person), VATS. Spent a lot of time trying to capture the dark humour and stuff. If you want to play entirely in real-time, you can. If you want to use VATS all the time, you can. Most people we find use both. Take advantage of VATS in big battles."
<br>
<br>
"Main quest is 25 hours. Well over 100 hours of content for you to find and explore. Encourage you to replay more than once. Play it one time as a good character, play it as an evil character and see how experience is different. Play a stealthy character. Single-player only, no multi-player."</blockquote>
<br>
Yes, re-invent it by making it more like Oblivion.

All the many little things to nitpick about Pete's comments don't even bother me anymore, it's just hearing the same stupid shit again and again that's getting incredibly annoying.

"lame generic interviewer: fallout has a very vocal fanbase blah blah blah how do you deal with blah blah blah

pete hines: fallout fans are very passionate blah blah blah we're hardcore fallout fans too blah blah blah"

STFU already. Why does every retarded mainstream gaming site/magazine/show ask the same damn questions?

So they re-invent FO by re-iterating their own previous game(s) in the FO setting?

Seems like the hype-train is really getting started *choochooicanhypeicanhypeicanhype*

So - Fallout 3 is Resident Evil game now :?:

I mean running, gunning, shooting zombies...

And aren't the zombies in Resident Eil created by a virus, too ?

This just in: Bethesda has registered the name "Black Isle" and logo, and all future Fallout sequels will be published under that name to comply with the fans, while future Elder Scrolls games will be published under Bethesda Game Studios title only.

So what did we learn from Oblivion kids? Oh yes! Let's make big games with little quality in them.

Fucking hypocrites!

Well there you have it.
Thats what Fallout 3 is going to be sold/hyped as although we already knew that, this just makes it official.
Its an FPS with zombies and shit bitches, and you can totally add to your stats and talk to people and stuff.

So is Bethesda not denying it's a FPS oblivion with guns? At first they denied it right and left and then I stopped paying attention.

Are they admitting it now?

No hands-on demo, because you can't be trusted to think for yourself. Instead, here's an interview with our PR guy that will tell you what to think for you.

Why are they so afraid of letting the game speak for itself?

VATS is going to be the downfall of Fallout 3. It won't please those guys who prefer a combat system like Kotor neither the FPS players. In the remote chance they make quests interesting to role-play, all their efforts will be wasted on a public who doesn't care about about deep role-playing games like Fallout.

^The downfall of FO3 will be that it's a crappy game.

But Oblivion was a crappy game....without any competition. It was an XBOX launch title, and there aren't a whole lot of First person combat games with swords.

Plenty of shooters though.

Hopefully people notice that Bethesda has no talent.

Don't worry.They'll make sure that it's completely non-essential. If not by anything else, then by that trademark difficulty slider of theirs which will reduce nuke-resistant mutants to rats at it's lowest setting.
Furthermore, I'm willing to bet that the default difficulty won't require using the vAtZ.
