Honestly it would have been a shocking twist if the first Clan confirmed hadn't been Brujah. Brujah not being in at all would be grounds for making absolutely sure we aren't in the middle of forty days of darkness, dead rising from the graves, cats and dogs living together, human sacrifice, and mass hysteria.

All this talk about the need of a diablerie to join a clan made me wonder about one thing.
What's supposed to happen if a vampire from a clan drains one from a completely different clan?
Does he "mutate" into a new clan? Does he gain the unique powers of both? Or does he just increase in strength/blood potency, but sticking to his original range of powers?

It is kind of weird to count Thinbloods as a clan. But maybe, it's just an NPC faction like in Bloodlines or they will give them some additional options (they are not that afraid of the sun if I remember correctly).
Also... It's possible that Thinblood is just their version of a Nightmare mode :P

In VTMR it was used to gain abilities from other clans, yes.

Not sure what the rule book says about it - probably nothing? Because vampires can master abilities from other clans in the novels, it's just much more difficult and it's got nothing to do with diableries.

Well the basic set has usually been just generation lowering. Since it generally expanded mechanics and detail on Thin-Bloods extensively, V5 also covers that Thin-Bloods if they diablerize a "full-blooded" vampire they will cease to be Thin-Bloods and instead by 13th Generation members of the victim's Clan.

Well, when a vampire that isn't a Thin-Blood diablerizes a lower Generation vampire, their Generation lowers (this is the general baseline, rest of the rules were actually given in splats even if the description already suggested them) and they may gain disciplines that the victim possessed (but as mentioned earlier, this is not the only way to learn disciplines, the only discipline that is sort of unique is Vicissitude and that's because it isn't a Discipline like others; previously it was caused by an alien virus, now it's caused by a Cthulhu virus). Also, a sufficiently powerful victim may try to possess the diablerist.
