OK i understand what you are saying about "learn by doing" skill increases. I must admit i spent alot of time in Morrwind jumping!! :)

So i agree, it depends on your point of view.
Personally i'll take "learn by doing" anyday, for the simple reason that i have the choice whether or not it affects my immersion into the game.


Personally, I consider a game an RPG when I can play a character of my choice using this character's skills and abilities to handle situation in a manner fitting my character. That's an RPG. A good RPG would make sure that the choices I make affect the gameplay and the gameworld.

but i don't have to choose my character, at least not in terms of looks.
