Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I just find it lame when they take a historical setting that's cool by itself and muddy it up with sci-fi tech or magic or some shit, as if they lack confidence that muskets and bayonet charges and grapeshot aren't cool enough on their own.

Premise seems alright, especially given the ability to join different factions. For whatever reasons, there's women and mechs polluting said premise... Well, whatever. Anyone played the demo? From the screenshots, it seems as though they're trying to combine politics management, GSG elements, and tactical combat, which sounds pretty interesting.

I love that time period... in history. Not such a fan of goofy and poorly thought out steampunk (which, unfortunately, is most steampunk). Not a fan of turn-based gameplay either. So I'm giving it a pass. If it was a straight historical game I could live with the turn-based gameplay and give it a try.

Tried the demo, my findings follow below:

- the historical side of things is done pretty well, all the major characters and factions are represented, of course the whole thing gets ruined by the mechs
- the game itself is basically a poor man´s fully turn based Total War (there is a strategic layer in which you build up provinces, recruit and move armies and do all other strat layer-ey stuff, battles are also turn based though)
- there is supposedly going to be deep political aspect, but I cant judge it from the demo as it is not implemented yet, in any case you can visit all the major political clubs (each one has three factions), talk to their leaders and negotiate about stuff
- building stuff is the normal Total War fare (you build a factory in a province and it gets you money each turn on completion etc), the twist is that you need to have political leaders to manage construction projects, which places a significant limitation on how fast you can develop (you have one political leader at the start, I am not sure if you get more as the story develops or if you can actively recruit them)
- the revolution follows the historical path (the first mission is the attack on Bastille, the demo leads up to the king´s attempted escape), you can make a lot of decisions along the way, but it remains to be seen how much influence you actually have on the storyline
- the story starts with you (Cesar/Celine Napoleon) being a captain in the royal guard, you get send in a mech to defend Bastille, once you arrive you can carry out your orders (well, this option doesnt work in the demo though) or defect to the rebels, after that you get inducted into the general assembly and can choose your political club (Royalists, Jacobins, Moderates) and you go from there

What is really sad that there is no reason for mechs to be there (I could stomach the stronk wahmin option I guess, its almost 2025 after all...), the game would work perfectly with just historical units. Instead the combat is all about mechs as they can easily tank massive amount of damage and mog just about anything else. The political stuff could be intersting, the general take on the subject matter is competent.

As it is it is a low budget Total War game with turn based combat, strong storyfaggotry and setting, which gets dragged down by the inexplicable addition of steam punk mechs - without this mech bullshit, I would get it just for the setting. Things being as they are I will probably pass.
