1: It's a console and such can never outperform a PC, yet I get the feeling that's a point the video author is trying to make.

2: Unity is an unoptimized piece of crap.

3: He's spamming TNT all over the map and does not expect a performance drop? Really? Even PCs stutter when mass devastation take place in Broforce.

4: Now I know why the Broforce devs have been so quiet lately.

Re-read point 2 again. That's the reason.

Your point only stands if a retro-looking game was made using retro game assets. Broforce isn't.

It's the developers' fault for going with Unity in the first place and not working to optimize their game when it is so obviously taxing the engine.

So by removing destruction completely and sticking to zero-animation sprites?

That video is retarded as fuck. A game with lots of explosions affecting destructible enviroment and physics calculations is not in any way comparable to a game that just spawns a lot of the same type of monster and projectiles with very simple behavior.

Thank god we have modern games pushing the boundaries of tech in ways that old games never ever could...

It's the difference between using specialized vs general purpose tech.

There are only two types of terrain sprites in that video: dirt and rocks. Also, the sprites look half the size (1/4 the number of pixels) as Broforce's.

Liero is also a Finnish game (note the user posting it) and released late in the 20th century.

Pay attention.

The issue is not with drawing grafics but updating all that is supposed to happen with the loads of crap flying around. Physics is always expensive, console are shit and there's probably not much they can do.

:necro:

Game finally gets an update!

Lots of bug-fixes and tweaks, and improved support for X-Box controllers, so that's something.

Another update is due within the next 4 weeks (or before July 4th, whichever comes first) and it may feature a new Bro.

This one:

Smart money is on Steven Seagal.

It's not often that Steam Discussions yield anything worth a damn, but this one...

As some of you may recall, it has been possible for quite some time to "ride" a pig by constantly using a knife-based melee attack while standing on top of a dead pig. There was a gif earlier in this thread showing this, but it's been börked.

Now, someone on the Steam forums "suddenly" realized you could use this to skip whole levels, and decided that this "secret" must be shared with all.

What they didn't expect was this wonderful comeback from the devs:

WE WERE TOLD THAT OUR GAME WILL BE SUCCESSFUL WHEN PIGS FLY

WE SHOWED THEM

Free Lives win the Internet for a day.

Goddammit Snake got nerfed. Where's the crazy good sniper rifle where I need it? Oh, I guess Dirty Harry fits the bill. Tank Girl looks OP (hate the character, but didn't stop me from using Chuck Norris), Bruce Lee looks amazing.

We need a level pack or something. All these new characters on the same levels.

Snake got nerfed as a damage dealer, but he's tons better in maneuverability now. That glider is loads of fun.

Dirty Harry is very much like the old Snake (even down to the molotovs) except for a slightly longer range and the need to reload that hand cannon of his, so players need to keep count of how many times they've fired.

EDIT: Correction in above text.

Bruce Lee will be tough to master, he has a different melee attack for which direction you point with the attack button. His special is a monster, he charges forward in a headbutt, and if that connects time almost stops while Lee teleports between enemies on-screen. He can easily decimate a large force.

But Tank Girl is AMAZING. Easily my favourite Bro so far. Her normal weapon is a slow-firing, medium-ranged bazooka with a HUGE explosion radius. Her special is to summon the tank, which behaves way too much like the tank from Metal Slug - except this tank can also change turrets for alternate fire modes, AND other Bros can ride in the tank!

SIX YEARS

That's a long time for Broforce to make a comeback!

Coming early 2023.

If you pause it early, you can spot some of the new Bros.

Update is out.

First impressions.

# Desperados is weird. He has two short-ranged wide-spread shotties with a delay in reloading, but he also has sliding animations with his guitar, so he's more maneuverable than the basic bro. His special is to summon his two mates and they play music, if any enemies are around they start dancing, before becoming confused. If the other two mates have enemies in sight, they will rain death upon them, otherwise they just stand around.

# Buffy is weirder. She shoots stakes which are like short-range knives of Machete, only at a slower rate. Her special is to throw holy water around, which scares normal baddies, but if Buffy stands in it she gets a halo over her head, unknown what that does (yet).

# Demolition Man is *hard* to play with. He fires a grenade like Chuck Norris, but it bounces weird and longer, and then it explodes in a cross-pattern. His special is a freeze-bomb which crawls across terrain and freezes enemies permanently. Not sure what they're trying with this one.

# Xena is fun. She has a sword, but somersaults all over the place yelling if you press Fire while moving left/right. It's her special where she shines, it's that circular blade which functions as her own personal sawblade! Indestructible, bounces off walls and tries to return to Xena. Her skill-ceiling is high.

# Seth Brundle is AWESOME! Besides making weird noises, he spits acid over everything, and can make short work of many mobs. His special is to teleport short distances, but his winning feature is to press Up while in mid-air, then he sprouts wings and hovers around. Acid death from above!

# Burt Grummer is the last bro to be unlocked. His primary is a Big Fuck-Off Rifle which makes Dirty Harry and Indy's guns look kinda feeble. His special is a sniper scope which appears on-screen and you move about, haven't tried it out that much to find out how it works.

# The campaign has been expanded. On the global map there are new 'challenge'-areas which are either 'one-life' attempts, or character-specific challenges. Some of these areas are marked on the map (with a 'C'), but others are 'hidden' and become available once the relevant Bro has been freed. There's one for MacGyver, another for Timecop, but it's the Indiana Jones-challenge which will have people pulling their hair out. Git gud with that whip, or git out! The rewards for completing the 'C'-areas is unlocking more power-up crates, but completing the character-specific areas unlocks cosmetic Flexes.

# The levels have been updated, as well as the enemy roster. Remember the big Bruiser with the Minigun? There are now Grenadier-Bruisers, as well as Kamikaze-Bruisers! The terrorists also have machine-gun nests, which are actually more deadly than the Minigun-bruisers. (Sadly Broforce cannot commandeer the gun nests.) There are also zeppelins, roller-trucks (don't get run over by them!) and more!

# NPCs that can be armed have been expanded. They gain levels for killing enemies, becoming more powerful. They're still made of cardboard though, so don't expect them to do anything major... though they may surprise you someday.

Conclusion? I'm maybe half-way through the main campaign, and I'm already submitting this as a 2023 GOTY. This was my 2015 GOTY, so I'm not afraid to do it again.
