Two sessions. We finished the first on resurrecting one person, so we stopped until we can resurrect the second one. It took us until this year.

Session 92-93: Death and Poisons

The battle was over. The party discussed what to do but nobody wanted to decide. Their friends were dead and they needed a real revive. The group was stopped by the kingdom's wyvern riders. Captain Graham introduced himself again. Thanked them for help and that they informed the king about the attack, he went on a patrol because of that. The captain left them to continue the fight against the dragonkind. The group decided it's time to teleport back to home. Solange went for Vittoria, after the elf told him where she is. However, the woman almost died. Solange was asked what is with Mario and hearing he was slain, she had a heart attack. More akin to Padme (broken heart). Thanks to Baâ, they had someone able to cast Greater Restoration and save the woman from dying. She needed some time to rest. Elhaeltôr decided to take her with them and so he casted teleport.

The party kept the situation in secret to not alarm anyone. Iesha was informed and Luigi also, since they needed both. Iesha to take care of Vittoria, while Luigi was needed for the resurrection ritual. They contacted Cleo, a cleric of Valena, and Solaire, a cleric of Lord Sun, to perform the rituals for Mario and Balasar respectively. The spell is custom and is called Coerce the Soul. The idea is that the clerics believe normal resurrection methods (Raise Dead, Resurrection) actually abduct the soul from the afterlife, while the Coerce the Soul is a method to convince it to come back. So, the party gathered for Mario first. Each one of them argued with the summoned soul to come back, while the soul only listened. Friendship, honor, promises, family and many others were arguments for the soul to return. Mario did return. Balasar was similar, however, after he came back, he heard fewer voices than Mario. Next time might be even harder for Balasar's soul to come back.

Later they discussed what they saw in the afterlife. First off, they don't remember anything of the afterlife. They were dead and were "coming back" to the body. However, both of them had an experience on the way. Mario was transported to Valena's Garden, her realm and he heard them talking about the paladin. Words like the chosen one, that he is their key or that there was another chosen one were thrown, even that they are out of time to save the world. Balasar saw a different vision, where he met with a blue dragonborn without any features that wanted to grant him something that would save the world and his people - the Godspark (something that people say that the gods have that makes them gods). The party discussed what it could mean and created many theories like Sigurd is the previous or current champion of the gods, maybe even the Emperor or that what Balasar saw was the Cobalt Dragon. Whatever it was, the party needed to decide what to do next and they went with listening to the young king from the Oasis - take care of their kingdom.

Of course, there was the case of Vittoria still being in the kingdom. During the talks, Mario failed on some rolls. She decided to leave everything behind and they just sent a letter from her that she is leaving. "Nothing bad will come of it" the players laughed out loud, because Mario had to play out his natural 1 on intelligence test for political maneuvers.

Elementi Revivo
From top-left:
Hyrlos - the Hydra, he has 8 eights almost all different colours
Ishmael - Ruler, cleric of All-Father, Fire Genasi
Melika - Warden, fighter, Earth Genasi
Silo - General, ranger, Air Genasi
Reginaldo Archontiko - Magister, wizard, Water Genasi
Tarik - Spymaster, rogue, Half-Orc
Cassius Bordeux - Grand Diplomat, noble, Human
Ildrex - Councilor, warlock, Dragonborn (red)
Sulus - High Priest, cleric of All-Father, Dwarf (mountain)
Zod - Royal Enforcer, rogue, Goblin
Quelanna - Marshal, ranger, Half-Elf (Wood)
Caim - Treasurer, monk (Long Death), Tiefling

The group wanted to meet with their nearest neighbors. First, they asked if they can come by letter, they got a positive answer back. So they gathered some gifts worth a couple of thousand gold. After traveling past Morqueto, they entered the Elementi Revivo Kingdom. They found out that they weren't slacking around. Farms, orchards, villages built. There were a couple of major settlements. Saltwall, where they gathered salt for export. Rockhigh, where there were quarries. Lumberton, you get the idea. Green Leaf, the village the party visited at the start of the campaign. And of course Viridi, the capital of the kingdom. The party visited Green Leaf first. Much changed since then. A monument built for the heroes (the Elementars) standing above dead goblins. Many warehouses and lively market. They gathered information from Old Silver, the old half-elf they owned the inn. Everything is fine the kingdom. People live in good conditions and even taxes aren't so high anymore. The party even learned that the "witch" that lived in the village was arrested by the Elementars. Apparently, she sold information about the villagers for her whole life, which resulted in abductions. The surrounding area was always dangerous so it wasn't so strange for the settlers. However, Old Silver heard that the people who abducted the villagers lived in the underground.

When they got to Viridi, the city is mostly inside the rock wall, as the capital sack into the ground during the earthquake. Goblins carved tunnels between underground buildings. Later, they were ruled over by a hydra called Hyrlos. The Elementars not only defeated the goblins but also the hydra, who is now working for the group. When the kingdom started, they worked on rebuilding the tunnels and the city, thanks to money from Cassius Bourdeux, who became their Grand Diplomat. The party first met with him and was escorted to the throne room, passing two construction places - a castle and a temple to All-Father. Entering the hall, they saw the whole council and the hydra (who had 8 heads, almost all different colors). The meeting was tense and the party would meet the next day for politics. Cassius later visited the party, when they discussed what they want from Elementi Revivio. The party did see that the council doesn't seem to trust them for some reason. It was revealed that they think of them as poisoners. Now, ladies and gentlemen, during session 31, Elhaeltôr gave Melika, the earth genasi a healing potion since Elementars wanted to go to the Abyss (the hole in Orth). It was actually a potion from the orc haul when they attacked the fort. It was a Potion of Poison. The Elementars didn't trust the party, so they used spells to check it. From that point on, they didn't trust the group. The group accused Elementars of being political douchebags and other words while Cassius was still with them. However, they decided that it's better to say sorry and move on. They met urgently with the council again. Mario used "bad" words to say sorry, while Balasar won over them that it was actually a mistake. Both groups joined hands and let bygones be bygones.

Another session. This was mainly an info dump with some roleplay. Some were done on the side by asking questions. The party next will either go to the Dominium to ask the Cardinals, the leaders of the Church of Trinity for Mario to become king, or they will go to the king of Kingdom of the Vale.

Session 94: A Potential Ally

The party first spoke with Hyrlos, the eight-headed hydra. He spoke with good Common (Acturian), however, he might have spoke fluently in Draconic. He didn't hide anything and spoke in 3rd person. There was no one head and he always said: "We are Hyrlos." He was an experiment by the mages from Capisalta (dukedom where Orth now is), who worked for the Duke of Viridicapi (the city they are now was their capital). He wanted something special, a unique creature. Hyrlos was the first successful being. He remembers his time from earliest as being the pet of the Duke. Hidden from the world until maturity. The collapse happened, the city went fell underground and Hyrlos had to fight for survival. Eat those that also survived. He grew in time and surpassed in age all other hydras, even in size. When the goblins dug their way to him, he decided to rule over them. He became the secret ruler of the goblin tribes in the forest (Ragmaw only had a small group of goblins under him). He lived in "peace" getting food from the goblins all the time. It was until the Elementars came and defeated him. Then he decided that he found a new master - Ishmael and pledged his loyalty to him. The group tried to gain more information about the history of Viridi but the hydra didn't know much.

Later, they spoke with Archontiko, the water genasi, who was willing to work in trading knowledge with the group. He revealed to them information about their latest problem - Mind Flayers. The old had in Green Leaf had a deal with them and with her help Mind Flayers were getting prime slaves from time to time. They investigated the surrounding area and found an entrance to the Undertethys. There not only they found what they were looking for but also a giant undersea and a city. Filled with Mind Flayers. They didn't fight the city but only patrols. They got information that a being called the Hidden Lord is worshipped by some Mind Flayers but most of them oppose him. He might be some kind of god or similar being. The party not only got a peek at the map, revealing more Undertethys but also a warning that the Mind Flayers have strange creatures working for them. One of them was a walking brain (Intellect Devourer), which wanted to eat the brain one of their party during rest but they found him out at the last moment.

Balasar spoke with Ildrex on the side and found out that the red dragonborn is from Isfahan, the same city that Balasar's clan took over. Ildrex's clan ruled over the city and opposed the Emperor. They died for it. He is at the same time happy and sad because they died with honor but the clan is no more. He wanted to hate Balasar but upon learning more about the blue dragonborn he decided it's not worth it since he is an outcast. Ildrex also revealed that he saw the Great Empire's army marching at Kwenta, another dragon fortress, through the desert without problems. Dozens of thousands of soldiers with Fire Giants in their midsts. He couldn't explain how it's possible but the mere sight of it was enough for the fortress to surrender. Balasar told him about his clan and that they need him, that he will need to stop or kill his Patriarch. These words made Ildrex happy and even want to help him. He told Balasar that whenever the blue dragonborn or his party will go to Isfahan, then Ildrex will join them. He revealed a secret that he knows about Isfahan - it was once two times bigger. The other half of the city could fly into the clouds and hide. From what he knows, it might be still there and if it ever falls, it will destroy the whole city. There might be Cloud Giants there, since they ruled over Isfahan long ago. Maybe even a Storm Giant that works with the Patriarch, since the party got a rumour that he might have somebody powerful at his back.

Later, the party discussed the situation and decided that they want to have good relations and Morqueto is theirs since they don't want to start a war. They met with the council and discussed the issues. The Elementi Revivo right now has problems with gnolls to the west and Forest of Gardens (the Lady of Midnight forest) to the east. The party discussed the city and Ishmael doesn't care about devil worshippers. If they follow the law, he doesn't have a problem. Especially if their only goal is to provide pleasure (the cult in Morqueto is from the archdevil of succubi). However, if they are just murderers or something worse, he will destroy the cult, if he takes over the city. He doesn't want to do it with force. The party told him they will help with information and destroying. Later, they talked about their relations. Ishmael already met with the Queen of Actur Kingdom and is thinking about being her vassal. He feels that it's unavoidable, since the kingdom is a powerful entity. He didn't want to speed up the moment and any talks of uniting the canyon, being independent, creating a big army or interrupting trade or Golden City treasure hunts might just do that. So, he will agree to building an embassy and even creating a trade route, he doesn't have a problem with that. Later, Mario asked if he can talk to the people of Elementi Revivo and Ishmael granted this wish, Mario made a speech about unity and peace. The leaders of two upstarts shook hands with smiles afterwards. The party returned to their kingdom.

We go to the Kingdom of the Vale. The party visits the country the first time and learns about the world around them. Next sessions will be more DnD, less political stuff since the players asked for it.

Session 95-96: A Giant Problem

The party prepared to visit the king of Kingdom of the Vale. Another cartful of gifts. Also, they took some earth from the holy place. Remember? The vampire thingy, there was a hill there. Over 300 years ago it was the spot where the Avatar of Trinity declared his crusade against the Monster Empire. It was a holy spot for years, until the fall of the canyon. Nobody found it since the terrain changed a lot. The barons didn't have a problem with taking some earth. They believe the part will do good with it. The party then discussed who should go with them and Mario decided that Iesha should. Being all ready, they embarked on their travels.

VDBAnNl.png

Stefan Nemanjić
King of the Vale
Blessed by the Trinity

During this, they learned more lore about the Kingdom of the Vale. This of a country ruled by Knight Orders. Many of them. Their history started after the death of Actur, where the Rage of Humans happened and they attacked the Kingdom of the Elves. This, in turn, created the Kingdom of the Vale, people were knighted for their bravery and given lands. Of course, it didn't mean that they won. The Drow rule over the biggest forest in the lands and the war continued for generations. Noblemen are nearly non-existent. High ranking people are either priest of Trinity (Valena, Eris or Illios) or Knights. Then you have the middleclass - townfolk, merchants and craftsmen. The lower of the spectrum are villagers, who are more akin to medieval serfs. The taxes are high but people are more willing due to the money going mainly to two things - security, which is needed due to war with Drow, and religion, which is part of their everyday life. When the party entered the kingdom, their first destination was Brodzany. This was once a capital of dukedom of Ilyrium, which were renown for their masonry. Now it is ruled by the Order of the Crimson Griffin, which the party had some dealings with. They continue the traditions and the old architecture is great shape. The group didn't stop, just passed through, so it was more of timeskip.

The party entered Żleb, the capital of Kingdom of the Vale. City build between two large lakes. They could plainly see the stark difference between the poor and wealthy. The districts of the Knights or Clergy was beautiful, colorful and even golden in some parts. While the rest was dark and brooding. The party was stopped by knights. While the rest of the kingdom has many Orders ruling over their lands. The capital is ruled by the King and his Royal Knights. These Knights are recruited from the other Orders, only the best of the best are taken. They are sworn to protect their king and take upon themselves to guard the capital. The party was escorted by only a few of them could go. There was no royal palace in the capital, only a fortress. A sharp contrast from what they saw in Oasis. No broad corridors, cramped space. Even the throne room had space only for about 30 people max. The king himself - Stefan Nemanjić, said to be blessed by his gods, was an imposing, large man with armor adorned in religious symbols. Mario greeted him and started to talk about gifts that they came with, even giving the king the holy land, which he was impressed but didn't speak until Mario stopped. The king wanted to know if the party were still adventurers, which Mario kinda said yes. Stefan was happy with the answer, asked the group to follow him and took some of the alcohol that they brought. They were taken to a small room with a map and were alone with the king. He explained that the party is his only hope to solve a problem of his.

This problem started many months ago when giants were seen near the southern border, west from Żleb. A month later, the giants attacked a village, burned it to the ground and stole food. At first, nothing was done. Later, when another village was attacked, the Order that took care of those lands acted. Order of the Blood Oath marched to the mountains to take care of the giants. They were massacred. Almost nobody survived. The giants attacked another village later. The King didn't want to send any other Orders or his own men to take care of this stuff, so he recruited adventurers from a guild called Monster Slayers' Guild. This guild is very old but lost most of its name during Actur's era. The Great Adventurers' Guild took over in the north, while the Monster Slayers' Guild rebuilds their name in the south. About 8 people were sent. It was nearly two months ago. No word from them. Then a month ago another village was destroyed. The King is nearly out of options. Here was his thing. If he sends his men or other Orders, then the Order of the Blood Oath would have their influence and standing destroyed. This is one of the first Orders that was created 300 years ago. Ancient, honored Order. If it falls, then it creates more problems. First, they would not deserve the land they are on and the king might have a civil war on his hands. The party discussed the issue in private. They didn't like that the king wants to use them, however, he did say he will listen to their political requests after the deed is done. The party agreed to do it since they wanted to help people.

Later, the group had a welcome feast organized by the king. During which the King revealed some stuff, being all friendly and all of that. He said that he is willing to work with the Northen Kingdoms Alliance, however, he won't pay their demands - which is 50% of their military strength. It's huge. Some can't even support that. He even explained how the Kingdom of the Silver Coast doesn't have an official army and the princes there recruit mercenaries, so they only pay money to the Alliance. The King couldn't abide by the request and the Actur Kingdom, being the main face of the Alliance, denounced them. Saying that either you are with them or against them. The King is yet to officially act against the Great Empire of Freedom since the Empire is yet to act against the Trinity, which is true, they never did but might. The party thanked for the meal and while the rest of their caravan returned home, the party traveled west. The king also gave them a sealed letter to the Grand Master of the Order of the Blood Oath.

0UuoIHFl.png

Pribislav Gojniković
Grand Master of Order of the Blood Oath
Ruler of Piskupovo city

Most of the people didn't understand them since the Valemen speak Valen, a new language formed after 300 years. The common tongue - Acturian is mainly known by important villagers or higher ranking civilians. All knights, merchants, and clergy know Acturian. The party found the lands around Piskupovo, the capital of the Order, in bad shape. There were no patrols to the east. Later, they met with the Grand Master, seeing a lot of refugees on the way (think Kingdom Come: Deliverance but 4 more villages burned). It was quickly apparent that the Order is in bad shape, even the city saw better days, now nearly 20% of the houses were empty. The leader told them what the king said, after reading the letter but with more specifics. The giants come from the mountains and mainly attack nearby villages. The last one was further from the mountains. The next nearest one is Kotor, so the next attack might be there. The Grand Master already sent 10 men there. He barely can send any more, since he lost nearly 40 men in the mountains. The king even pleaded the group not to request more men from the Grand Master, since he can't afford more losses.

The party moved to Kotor and it was indeed attacked at that moment. Imagine my shock. The party used teleportation magic to get near and saw that the giants were diverse. There were trolls and hill giants but also one strange looking one. Muscular, more intelligent looking but speaking only in shouts and grunts. He was eating people alive, so the party fought. During the fight, the defenders only lost 2 men out of 6 (4 were lost in the initial attack) and nearly 20 civilians. The village wasn't destroyed thanks to the party intervening. Iesha used her healing magic to save people, while the rest organized rescue stuff. One thing to note is that when the strange giant died, he exploded in a gore of flesh, blood, organs, and bones. A strange and disgusting sight to behold. The party couldn't learn what it was or why it exploded. The party rested in the village, using the Mansion spell.

uA1aV5Kl.png

Thunder Mountains

Iesha stayed in the village and took care of the people, while the party backtracked the giants to the nearby forest. There, by sheer luck of natural 20, they found bodies in the snow of hunters. Somebody is a specialist at hiding stuff and killing. Four people dead from cut throats. The giants didn't do this and it was important that if the hunters were alive, they would see the giants coming from a mile away and informed the village, saving it. It seemed that somebody else was helping the giants pillage stuff and the most obvious was the drow. The party traveled to the mountains, nearly 3 days of travel. Thunder Mountains in the ancient times were ruled by red dragons, later by storm giants and after that the dwarves. Now, it's mainly duergars and a kingdom calling itself the Confederacy of Thunderhammer (the name of the dwarven clan that betrayed Actur). The party crossed the border and was in the lands of the latter. During their travels, they saw many old ruins from giants and dwarves alike. Watchtowers built atop mountaintops for better signaling and observation. However, the party was more interested in what was in front of them. They found dwarven footprints. A group of dwarves moved by the giants footprints and past them. They did stop to inspect them as the party did. However, thanks to a natural 20, again, Solange saw a giant on a hill, before a forest many kilometers from them. It moved to the forest soon after. The party discussed what to do and after a long discussion, they decided to teleport to the hill and check the giant out. When they got to the place due to the Teleportation spell, they felt a snowstorm brewing, very quickly. The trees moved rapidly to the sides and they saw a rolling snowstorm heading their way and was about to hit. With quick thinking, the wizard cast Fabricate, while Balasar used Detect Magic to see what was going on. Fabricate was dispelled and Balasar saw that the snowstorm is magical. The druid out of sheer instinct or panic used her only 8th level spell slot to cast Dispel Magic on the snowstorm. Normally she would have to roll, but with that high roll, she didn't need to. I've also failed to counter her spell, so the snowstorm was dispelled and winds died down. The snow, however, turned solid and the group saw giants flying out of it, down to the ground. This is how the giants ambushed and killed the Knights and the other adventurers. They would use the snowstorm somehow to suddenly appear near their enemy and attack them. Next session will start with the giants prone on the ground.

Giants, giants, giants. The party fights some more and find more giants later. Did I say giants?

Chapter XII
d7qVNKVm.jpg

Session 97: The Ice Shaman

The party fought against the giants that flew from the snowstorm. They started prone, so the party had the upper hand. They did their best to DPS the shit out of one of them, who was cleary the strongest one (the one who ate people, could make shockwaves etc.). The rest - hill giants and trolls, tried their best to fight with the group but was unable to really do anything. Trust me, I tried. Bad lucks, heals and bad position made the giants a quick fight.

aBIqQTLl.png

The group decided to venture forth into the forest. The snowstorm did subside but still was raging around the mountains. They were able to find footprints of the giant that came into the forest and followed them. Sneaking around, after nearly an hour or two of walking, they found a stone circle with trolls. This place looked like it was made by giants. Its purpose was unknown but it was working. A stone circle around the place had its runes lit with magic. So did menhirs, giants stones, gathered in the center but less so. Four trolls "prayed' to the giant stones inside the circle. The group decided to sneak around and maybe find some information. They talked a lot and the snowstorm started to get louder and louder, getting closer. Solange while sneaking decided to throw a rock and see what the trolls will do. One of them stood up and looked around. He rolled natural 20 for paranoia and decided to blow a horn, at least he tried. He went for it and was suddenly attacked by a monk with 45 feet of movement, sneak attack, assassin criticals, and Stunning Fist. He didn't die (barely stood) but was stunned. The combat ensued. It wasn't a fair fight for the trolls who focused on Solange, who used his tattoo to be immune to their attacks.

There were some important things happening. When Solange went over the circle, the runes glowed for a moment. Even when Mario ran through. The other is that our druid didn't want to take chances, turned into an Earth Elemental and destroyed the runic circle in one round. The runes flickered out, even those on the stones. The snowstorm subsided but later reappeared and this happened in two rounds. The party did their best to defeat the trolls. Hearing the snowstorm coming, they decided to hurdle up. However, things weren't so bright at first.

7OTWj1Im.png
UONVZPnm.png

The snowstorm passed through and went quiet, no more winds were heard, at last, some peace. However, the snow from the storm formed into four giant creatures. Three of them were frost salamanders. The fourth was a frost giant that had many heads on its body. A strange creature the party saw for the first time in their life (no, it's not the Everlasting One, I just used it as a base). The fight was dangerous but the party in the end prevailed. Balasar did his best to move the giant away from the party (Eldritch Blast to move 10 feet every hit, OP crowd control). He did fall in the end when the giant got to him but Mario used his Lay on Hands to revive him back. The Salamanders had luck on their frost breath and were dpsing the party. However, with Scarlett and her huge sneak attack damage with Sharpshooter (she did about 40-50 damage per round), she was able to dwindle the enemies HP. In the end, the giant died in an explosion of gore, just like the previous two "mutated" giants. The frost salamanders fell last. When the fight ended, the party could see, thanks to the elf being on the menhir (Misty Step), that the snowstorm was gone from the mountains and revealed that there is a village of giants, that was previously hidden because of it.

End of a chapter! The group, sadly, avoided encounters and went ahead. However, dungeon incoming! Also, level 16!

Chapter XII
D7AHHrDl.jpg

Session 98: Bearded Secrets

The party discussed what to do with the reveal of the giants' village. They decided that they would need to scout out the area. Firstly, they were exhausted and wanted to rest. Using the Mansion from Elhaeltôr, the party took their Long Rest. After some more discussion, they went out to check out what is going on. When they got near the village, they had a better view of the situation. There were dozens of giants, mostly trolls and hill giants. There were some of those "exploding" ones. The place wasn't heavily guarded. However, a force was setting out towards the forest. They saw the leader of the village. A big, muscular giant with a horned helmet. The group decided to wait for a while. The leader went back to the village, to the biggest hut, while the force left the village. Then they did some scouting. They did find the animals and food from the villagers but no humans. However, there was a cave at the back of the village. The group decided to go invisible and stealth their way to the cave. Making sure that nothing unexpected shows up. Inside they saw more beds of trolls since they liked to rest in caves, not in huts. There was a tunnel going deeper and the group decided to investigate, leaving the giants.

TbnJyeql.png

The tunnel went for a long while and didn't seem to end. It was wide and high enough for giants to travel through it with ease. There were even tracks. Giant's footsteps. Now frozen, changed the ground for years to come. Many of them passed this way. It took them nearly two hours to see a major change - the sound of wind. However, the further they went, it became apparent that it was actually the snow storm. This tunnel connected to the other side of the mountain and it was in a snowstorm but they did see another of those menhir circles. Elhaeltôr had an idea to use magic. He disguised himself to divination magic as a Giant and walked through the circle, it didn't light up like it was with the previous one. Next, he examined the stones and after nearly half an hour he found a way to turn it off. The rest prepared for what to come. The snowstorm died out. Nothing attacked them. However, they finally found out where they were.

cx3eHSKl.png

Saràmottan

On the other side of the mountain range, between the highest peaks, hidden in a valley, a lone dwarven fortress stood firm. The snowstorm had to rage for a long time and hid this place from everyone. The party decided to check it out. There was nothing else they saw that could make them wonder from where the giants came nor there were any tracks on the ground. The architecture revealed that what they saw initially was just the defenses. This size must mean that the fortress was at least a couple thousand strong. It did seem abandoned. Even when they got close. There was nobody. The giant stone door blocked passage to the fortress, "guarded" by a statue of the dwarven god Urist the Thunder. Suddenly, something came out of the beautifully carved door - an apparition, a ghost. They saw a dwarf, old looking but more ancient, like his clothes and armor was from a different era. He spoke in Dwarven and some understood his words "Heroes, I need your help. I will await you inside." He pointed to the gate and disappeared, with him it moved. The snow was pushed and the entrance was opened.

Inside there were more doors, mainly heavy ones to stop siegers from entering deeper. The group didn't check far into the ramparts, just looked around seeing everything empty. They couldn't close the main gate - the wheels were frozen shut. How did it open then? There was no answer to that question. After leaving the first phase of defenses, they got to a corridor and found some unnerving stuff. Firstly, the ceiling was uneven in some parts. Barely saw that. Secondly, the floor had slits going along the walls, like it was separated from the walls entirely. Not wanting to take chances, they used the Fly spell to get higher and flew forwards. The ceilings opened and mechanical ballistae shot at them, while the floor shook. Mario, using his new Strength, with the newest Rexgladio he has 24 Strength, like a giant, destroyed the door to this corridor and allowed the rest to fall through. The floor shook again, dropping 2 meters down, while the floor near the door turned an angle. They heard something massive dropping and it was a giant ball. They got to the other side without issue. Quick look around found nothing. They were in the guards chamber, another checkpoint for guests and carts. There was a well, connected to the fortress aqueduct but the water was "stale" and smelled badly. They did find the ballistae. The secret doors to the defenses was opened by someone before, who even cleaned up and maintaned the weapons. Somebody knew how to use traps. Futhermore, they were able to hide all their tracks. The party moved forward and found themselves in a new place. A long corridor with a entrance hall. This was the start of the dungeon.

Funny thing about the name. Found out about it after I've made stuff for the dungeon, the sweet font name, etc. If you read it in Polish and don't read the first A, it will go like this Sram-O-Tam, which in direct translation means "I shit, oh (like you would be pointing), right there." Left it for some comedic relief.

Another session. The group finally takes a Long Rest to get the levels and we delve deep into the dungeon, uncovering dwarven secrets. Next session is going to be 100! Never got any campaign to this far. They all died out in the quarter of this. 20 something was always my average.

Session 99: A Pact of Convience

The group found themselves in a hallway full of dead dwarves. Dead for over 300 years. It was hard to decipher what was the cause but it seemed like rival houses fought against each other for some reason. In the dwarven society, there's a Clan King who rules over the whole clan, while there are Fortress Kings who ruled over the clan in a specific fortress. This was a fortress of the Thunderhammer Clan and houses are built on heritage. So, if you are the son or descendant of a great warrior, you are Utosh (your name) Sanrik (your ancestor, house name) of Thunderhammer Clan. Most the dwarves do not use the house name and just refer themselves Utosh Thunderhammer for ease of use to the outsiders. The group saw that they had three ways. Two side passages and the main at the end of the hallway. They decided to use the Mansion again since they were tired. When they got out, they decided to check the main corridor.

There they found a more sculpted hallway and a stone wall, that could be a door. There were no handles. Four dwarves were sculpted onto it. The dwarven description said Udesh - Great Scribe, Utus - Great Trader, Onul - Giants' Slayer and Kosoth - Great Wizard. In the center, there was a crevice with many holes. The idea was that you had a disc with extended stone parts that themselves had holes inside and when you turn the disc, it works like a key. Some parts inside the lock are moved, some are stopped by the key. They sat on this for quite a while. As always, the wizard to the rescue, Elhaeltôr used Fabricate and with the ideas from the other people, they came up with a movable parts disc. They used it. Not enough. Triggered a trap, that they were prepared for seeing a dragon mural above them. Scarlett stopped the moving cauldron, while Balasar blasted two stones that were about to make a spark. Oil was about to be poured into the room, next with a spark lighted and everybody there would be lit a fire. Most of the oil evaporated and there was barely any left, only for 2-3 meter fire. They used the key to open the door fully. However, somebody already set the trap in the walls. So, when they opened the door at the half and entered into the next small room with 3 doors, they heard stones moving. The mural door opened fully, the one to this hallway closed, while two to the sides of them opened revealing two dwarven Iron Golems. Later, from the columns four Iron Cobras came out to attack the group. They were successful but used some of their powers to stop the enemy.

seo7coHl.png

After that, they moved forwards. It seems that there was a stone highway, a long tunnel, made by the dwarves going down with murals to the sides. Telling the story of defeating the All-Father and the alliance between them, elves and humans. The murals stopped at the Monster Empire area and it seemed like somebody just stopped the work by orders, not because something happened. They traveled for about 30 minutes and found the tunnel collapsed and two side tunnels. They were mostly rocks, not hewn stone. They decided to check one tunnel. Found themselves in a giant cave and another tunnel leading somewhere else. They decided to check the massive cave.

Lycrick
(Boneclaw)
Servant of Arbeyach

With Baâ's transformation to an Earth Elemental, they were able to detect any movement in 60 feet, this allowed them to find out an "ambusher". The party decided to seek him out in secret. Suddenly, that ambusher sounded his signalling horn but nothing came out of it. Nobody jumped the group. Solange found out that the ambusher was a devil - Bearded Devil, they already fought against these fiends. Balasar stumbled upon a hidden one in another part of the cave. Combat ensued, he quickly was killed and disappeared, while the other one was knocked unconcious by Solange, because they wanted to interrogate him. There was a discussion about this, since they wanted to do Planar Binding on him to get the info and his loyalty. Balasar compared it to slavery and opposed it but didn't stop it. It took them an hour to do so, nothing came out to attack them in that time. When the spell was cast, he failed his roll (after Balasar ordering him to reroll with his Time Spear). They gained information about the fortress and the threats

- He didn't see much. He was summoned into a big room and later followed his leader.
- His leader is called Lycrick, an almost 3-meter high creature with long claws.
- He doesn't know the details, only that their lord Arbeyach wants some heroes dead
- There were others coming to this tunnel, three masked, slim humanoids but they had orders to leave them be
- There are bugbears inside almost triple in number than the masked ones (drow)
- The fortress has no dwarves, they are dead.
- Also, if they follow the cave, they would find a tunnel to the proper entrance to the fortress (a chasm with a bridge).

They killed him to make his soul go back to the upper planes. They regrouped and moved. However, when they got to the other side of the cave, the enemies just charged from the side caves, no ambush.

Here's how I'm doing the dungeon. Instead of making a huge ass map, which would be cooler, I had to smaller ones, since Roll20 is a bitch with big maps. You can see in the screenshots below. The party checks the new map discovers new ways to travel and after taking care of a location, they decide where to go. This allows me to create "massive" places without making massive maps. Also, a more freeform of making maps, instead of tunnels upon tunnels and corridors. Secret passages as shortcuts also exist here.

More Dungeon Map and battle maps.
What is written under? Fortress Entrance -> Utharinir (Przejście w Dół [A way down]) -> Zugobdeg (Collapsed Tunnel) -> Howling Caves

Session 100! Let's get this show on the road.

Chapter XIII

Session 100: Words from Beyond

The fight started and the party got lucky with initiative, giving them a huge tactical advantage by using spells and area of effects abilities. There were three types of devils. Bearded Devils were known to the party. The second devils were new ones that were more akin to bug people, that could crawl on the walls and sting using poison. The third one was more undead than devil was able to do stuff that the DnD Boneclaw couldn't like do AoE damage or teleport. He was able to get near the party but not before getting tons of damage on himself by the party DPSes. When he did get near, he attacked them and was able to inflict some wounds. The rest of the devils tried their best but wasn't so successful. The devil boss revealed he knows about the Golden Shield (Aegis Aurae) and that he came to kill them. Didn't happen. He was dispatched in the third turn which made the other devils flicker away one by one. He was their anchor to this world and without him, they returned to the hells.

pX3NyWvl.png

The party moved forward to see what else was here. They found a giant hole and a tunnel. Checking the tunnel revealed that it led below another place with a bridge, the dwarven entrance. There was a body, a bugbear body on the ground and with a quick medicine check, it became apparent he was dead for months if not longer than a year. This means that the drows and bugbears were in this place for a long time. The body got here by accident, he must have fallen about 200 feet down. The party regrouped and marched using the tunnel. The bridge was light with flames, so the party had no problems seeing what was where. However, the main construction was dark, no light was there. Kinda suspicious but the party didn't do anything with it. They checked two tunnels leading to the bridge. One was the main tunnel that collapsed, the other had a secret entrance. This connected to previous locations, to the one with the collapsed tunnel. Behind a fake wall, there were some dwarven constructions but nothing more. There was a giant hole and the construction laid so good, it could have been unnoticeable if somebody wasn't checking everything in the hole. The party decided to check the bridge.

Solange was able to sneak up, using the side of the bridge, to the entrance. Arrowslits were open and he saw Bugbears inside with bows. He killed one when the creature tried to check the arrowslit that Solange was attached to. When the group attacked, they were bolted by unknown assailants - assassins. Mario got hit hard by two bolts. The elf, however, got over 100 damage in one round and fell unconscious. The party had to fight without the wizard and was getting deadly. Especially, when Balasar used Scatter to teleport Mario and Scarlett to one side of the entrance and Solange to the other, using, of course, the arrowslits as a means to see inside for the spell to work. Mario and Scarlett stopped a running drow with this, while Solange was more interested in the bugbears and let the other drow assassin escape. The party was able to defeat the bugbears who defended the entrance fiercely but two of them escaped, seeing that they have no chance left. Interestingly, the party kept two alive, unconscious, but it was very late and everybody forgot about it since they needed to do a short rest.

lq4qYPHl.png

Later, after taking a short rest, the party descended to the fortress proper. They could go to three named places. In dwarven in meant: Aqueduct, Great Hall or Catacombs. The group decided to check the catacombs. There were many statues on the way, showing them the history of kings and heroes. Most of the kings took the name Onul, so it was revealed that the Giants Slayer descendants became kings. There was no statue for the last king, only the last dead one, which was nearly 500 years ago, so 200 years before the cataclysm. The party discussed if they wanted to enter the main catacomb chamber and one roll decided everything. Asked to roll for History, Elhaeltôr rolled a natural 1. The party went inside. Of course, it wasn't like the rest became stoopid and suddenly couldn't think for themselves. When it was getting strange or dangerous, I would notify them, if they are sure, which I did. The dwarves burned their dead, so they took the least space. Heroes and Kings or rich people got sarcophagi or even crypts. The party ventured inside, finding the royal catacomb, where the kings laid. There was one crypt with Onul's Grave written and a soot handmark. Later it was revealed, that a drow tried to come here but he was burned to ashes since he was just a graverobber. The party entered the tomb. Mario tried to ask the restless spirits he felt are inside the tomb to help them but there was silence. It wasn't until Balasar lit a candle on Onul's grave something changed. A ghostly hand grabbed his arm and the apparition appeared.

There were some tense moments because the party needed to be sure to say the right words. Onul spoke about mistakes, grave mistakes, and sins of the past. That he wanted them burned but the rest were too proud of them, left them underground. He asked for them to be destroyed and that nobody can leave with this information. They were able to convince the dwarf that he can rest assured that they will do anything they can. He gave them his axe (something like the Dwarven Thrower but more damage against Giants). His grave revealed his armour but the party decided not to rob the grave, which was exactly what they should do, since the dwarf wanted to test them. If they took more than was given, the undead would attack them. Later, the party went to Urist's Temple, since it was connected to the catacombs. The fires were lit inside the temple but there was no fuel. The apparition appeared again and spoke with the party once more. He told them that the sins of the dwarves are deep underground and must be destroyed. That the dwarves locked it there. However, the dwarves betrayed humans again and punishment came, many innocent dwarves were killed due to the civil war. The fortress was sealed and nothing could enter, until the drow came, they released the dwarven sins and now they must be destroyed before they do more harm. The party didn't have much to ask about. Elhaeltôr just wanted to know if they can contact him somehow later, so he said that in the biggest temple in the Anvil Mountains, where the Brightaxe Clan rules, they need to talk to the clerics there. Elhaeltôr thanked and commented that they need to talk about the gods being imprisoned by some otherworldly being. The ghost disappeared. The party decided to venture forth. They could go to the Great Halls from the temple or to some workshops and warehouses. They decided on the latter and found bugbears. They were searching for something or just packing everything they could to bags in the warehouses. The party sneaked up unto them and attacked. Taking one bugbear alive for questioning. After quick check, the next tunnel lead to something called "Second Descent." This was where we ended.

Session 101: Rousing Spirits

Our party gathered their stuff and started investigating the place. They found out that the Bugbears were taking old tools, that might have some value. Most of the valuables were taken long ago. Scarlett was able to find strange symbols on walls. There were some dwarven runes on the walls. Each with a different meaning, separated. Some kind of riddle. The group thought that they had to click on them in the right order but decided to leave it. They had a Bugbear to interrogate. After some intimidation and persuasion, they were able to gain information from Gundul. He and his group, nearly one hundred Bugbears, are mercenaries from the south. They worked with the Drow, traveling underground (Undertethys). The drow found something deep under this fortress and needed backup, they were dispatched with more drow. What they found was some ancient ruins, filled with mutated giants but the Bugbears mainly encountered rotting trolls. They pushed through and found the dwarven city. The drow stayed near the royal chambers were the entrance to the ruins were with minotaurs, while the bugbears and some drow scoured the dwarven fortress clean. There were here for a couple of months to maybe a year. There are some places the bugbears didn't go, not wanting to die and thinking there isn't anything of worth. Gundal knew that the drow numbered up to half of their numbers and some were still underground. Their leader Dremzor Dhordrul is in the royal chamber with the Bugbear shaman-chief Hrugguhul Egrim. The Bugbear knows that the drow took some slaves with them, even caught some outside. Those from outside were mainly humans and from the description, they were the knights and mercenaries. The latter group is still alive, at least some, guarded by the Bugbears in the living quarters of the fortress. The slaves were put to death as to summon demons to this world. They wanted to give a nice surprise to anybody coming here. Gundal told them that the Bugbears make patrols and it will be impossible to go deeper without going through the checkpoint called Etardeg (Second Descent), where most of the Bugbear and some drow are stationed to guard there. There is an old mine called Avuzogik (Mining Camp), that the Bugbears didn't go since it's "haunted" and they already had their share of undead. Especially after their shaman bound some undead, so that some will not wander around the place attacking everybody. The group decided to take Gundal with them, who was convinced that he can't return to his people - he could die, and check the mines.

wxZRQuhl.png

The mines were empty and there was a feeling of dread around the group. Bugbear didn't venture inside, too scared to fight whatever was inside. The group felt something holding onto their shoulders as the ghosts surrounded them. They tried to convince the ghost, even using the axe of Onul to do so, however, the ghost (rolling nat 2 on their check) didn't listen and attacked. The ghosts came from the mining houses armed to the teeth. There were no bodies around, so why there were ghosts here? The party fought them, all of the spirits fought to the last one. They spent some of their resources and were hit but could go further. They took Gundul back to them and took a short rest in the houses because it felt like the ghosts went away. It became obvious that nobody ransacked this place. There were no bodies, nothing. Everything seemed like nobody died in the work camps. The party decided not to rob this place out of valuables and ventured forth to the tunnels. They found the bodies. There were earthquakes that destroyed the tunnels and trapped or buried alive the miners. They died out of starvation, asphyxiation or wounds. The dwarves not only mined silver and iron here but also had mushroom farms set up, most of it decayed and out of commission due to damage and dust. However, the deeper the party went, the stranger the tunnels became. Filled with grey ooze that felt like it could burn the skin off. The smell of decay, something primordial. The druid had a feeling that it was something connected to what she saw in the north - signs of the end, corruption. The party ventured deeper to a bigger cave with more of the green ooze.

Chapter XIII
i9B13Ucl.jpg

Session 102: It Smells

Our party searches the caves. Strange green ooze is seen everywhere, with pools of the stuff in the main cave. They do not sneak around and just walk over to the other side, so they get attacked. Creatures, like they were created from just muscles, jump them. Some of the size of dwarves, others like giants. The weapon Balasar got was very efficient against them. However, their bulk soaked most damage and they hit like a truck. The wizard almost died, so they moved fast to the next tunnel and used the tight spot to fight the creatures. Using crowd control spells, they were able to win. During this time, Scarlett sacrificed her armor power to save the Bugbear. She safely escaped, which was why she didn't trigger the Hero moment. If she sacrificed her only way of escape and was almost killed (or killed), then she would get her Hero Points.

Se7jiw3l.png

After the combat, the party used the mansion to stay for nearly sixteen hours in the caves. They had to wait until 16 hours past but they couldn't wait for any longer after 8 hours of adventuring. That's the rules of 5e, which are fine. They had their moment of Long Rest and ventured forth. Going nearly two hours down the tunnels, they found a dwarven wall. The cave was new, maybe it was formed after the earthquake. The dwarves built their rooms in a cave and didn't fill up the rest of the cave. Earth fell from the wall and the party started working on it to get to the other side. Apparently, they got themselves to some guard room. They did a lot of ruckuses. After a quick look around, they found that this place was scoured clean long ago. They didn't check for traps later, which was why they got gassed. The drow put a special gas trap near the entrance. No attack. That came later when they left the rooms and into the brewery. In the main tunnel, Scarlett felt that somebody is nearby and the assassin quickly saw that. An ambush.

Chapter XIII

Session 103: Drow Tricks

The combat started and they realized they are surrounded. However, with brute strength and perseverance, they outdid themselves. The drow used not only magic and poisons but also demons called Vrocks, that stunned the party. Some were at critical health but did some critical hits themselves. The drow quickly lost their advantage and decided to flee from the scene. The mage got clobbered to death by Solange. While two assassins ran away, not fast enough it seemed. Solange and Scarlett were able to capture one of them. The other hid in the tunnels. There was one other drow, a leader of some sort but he had to use a potion of invisibility to escape. The demons were defeated and their bodies disappeared. The party decided to interrogate the captured drow. He told them all he knew but didn't divulge details since he was under contract. They were paid off by some powerful person in the drow wizard community. The previous group found some ancient giants' ruins deep below. Unfortunately while investigating, they released the experiments that were there. Some are under their control, like the ones in the mountains. However, there are too many strange creatures roaming around in the caves, so the drow decided to dig through the throne room where there is a caved-in tunnel using minotaurs as labor. The drow used some ancient rituals to summon demons here and the most powerful Mariliths are stationed on stairs, a place the party decided not to go and went to the mines. The humans are alive, still, and were kept under lock and sent later to the bugbears to be prisoners. He wouldn't answer questions about his employer or any specific goal since he was a member of an assassin guild. The party decided to knock him unconscious and leave him here. Balasar wanted him to pay, at least with a couple of fingers, if not with his life. Mario didn't want to hear about it and told him that he promised that he will live if he tells them everything. He kinda did. The party left him and went to the market place.

l74dD1Fl.png

Here they found that the bugbear shaman really did bind the spirits. They felt the same stuff that was in the mines, restless dead in the walls. However, this was muffled due to magic done by a rock that sat in the center of the market. The party stayed for a moment to investigate and found out that this rock not only bound the ghosts to not attack and stay put but also worked for all the rooms on this level. Which meant that if they wanted, they could sick all the ghosts and undead upon the drow and their ilk by destroying the stone, especially that they were agitated by being bound. The party decided not to do it, not wanting to mess with the ghosts. They went to the residential area. There they hatched up a plan with Guntul, the bugbear that worked with them. Guntul would scream about an attack in the brewery and take the sleeping patrol with them. The bugbear said his goodbyes since it meant they would never meet again and this might give him some plausible deniability later on. He did what he was told and successfully took with him about fifteen bugbears, a battle was skipped.

ACajJ7Al.png

Diego
Leader of the Monster Slayer Group

The party was able to rescue the three prisoners. Diego, their leader, Darrius, a thief, and Norberta, a wizard. These were the survivors. They looked malnourished but willing to fight. They ate whatever the bugbears gave them. Diego tried to tell their story but the party told him they already know what's going on and they need explanations. They were glad that they wanted to fight and will take upon their offer. The party didn't question anything, especially why they had their gear still, which was a funny reveal later.

RM5quDcl.png

The group got to the estates, where the four major houses had their homes. First two was Udesh and Utus, the clerics and merchants. In the Udesh home, they found out that there was no infighting. There was a sculpture with the names of the heads of the house with the Rontir Udesh as the High Cleric and leader, it was scratched, vandalism. There was some kind of important meeting going on but no bodies. The party found two hidden safes. In one they found a gold amulet of Urist, might be worth 1000gp and an old journal. While the other had many jewels, worth around 5000gp. The party then visited House of Utus. There were signs of infighting, during dinner time. The head of the family was the first to die, still in his chair. The family didn't barricade themselves inside, so they must have gone to the streets. They too had two secret spots. The first one was the family safe, where they found three gold tablets, which were more akin to exchange tablets where you could get gold pieces to the amount specified. However, you would have to go to the capital in the Anvil Mountains to get the money (about 15,000gp total) or you would only get a percentage (6,000gp total). The party also found a secret safe where there was a lot of memorabilia, jewelry, signet rings, and other similar stuff. All of Elven and Dwarven families. These weren't things the merchants would hoard. After reading the journal, it became apparent. These were looted goods. The dwarves not only instigated fights between elves and humans but also raided the lands of those races, blaming it on the other. These were things they couldn't sell but still had some meaning and value that might be worth a ton of money later down the line. Baa was the person who told the party this since she was reading the journal. There Rontir spoke about his visions and those similar to the Broken Anvil prophecy. He revealed every bad deed the dwarves did in the book. The party couldn't believe the dwarves were capable of such a thing but couldn't stay any longer. There were two more houses to check but the party decided there was no time and went straight to the throne room.

QwpjJ3ll.png

Dremzor Dhordrul
Hrugguhul Egrim

The drow was waiting for them. It couldn't be any other way. He was guarded by two minotaurs and his bugbear shaman. No other drow around but could easily be hidden beyond doors to the sides or behind the throne. The party tried to do a little split, even using their new allies. They talked to the drow. He was willing to let bygones be bygones. He would order the giants to get lost, go south and stay away from civilized places. The party could return to the Grandmaster and tell him everything went smoothly and the crisis is avoided, no need for more. The party wanted more - access to the ruins below. The drow didn't want to give them that. He said he was willing to compromise but the party had to leave this place. The was no reasoning on the other side so the drow ordered the attack to commence. Then the party heard something behind them. Their new allies turned into ooze demons!

Session 104: Soulless Immortal

The combat started it was pretty hard from the get-go. The enemy got the group surrounded. Assassins in hidden spots, mages on the ready and other stuff. The party tried their best to change the situation. At first, it looked grim. The enemy was able to disrupt concentration on the druid's Whirlwind spell that locked the bosses and drow came out of the woodwork. Balasar used his crowd control spell Wall of Light and his dragon roar. The enemy failed many rolls and the wizard counterspelled the enemy attempts on spellcasting. Harms, Fire Storms and other spell flew from Hrugguhul and Dremzor. However, the party was able to turn the tide to their favour. Dremzor died due to criticals and quick dps, he wasn't able to use his strange spear made out of blood. After he died, it went better for the enemy. Strangely, the assassins' stopped attacking the party and threw some alchemical fire and gas to destroy the body of Dremzor. Why? Nobody knew. They ran away just after that. One mage was taken captive, one drow warrior and Hrugguhul surrendered. Three assassins ran away, one captain and one warrior. Also, one of the three demons escaped back to the fortress. Important note, the druid had her spell counterspelled by the elf, because it could kill someone who surrendered.

They talked to the drow and bugbear, learning a lot about their enemies. They were hired by Bhintel Filifar, which is called "Archmage" by people who don't know him personally. Dremzor was the leader of the expedition long ago, they got inside the giants' ruins and were able to find a lot of knowledge. However, they also set loose the creatures inside. All of them died. Dremzor got his spells from the Queen (of Drow) and is able to resurrect if she so desires. The drow celebrate her as their savior and goddess. Dremzor, after having his body destroyed, will come back, if the Queen will want it, so it wasn't the last they saw of him. The drow have one mage in a secret hideout deep in the caverns, that has contact with Bhintel Filifar and knows more about him. Both drow offered their help for their lives. The second party was sent by Bhintel and Dremzor was again the leader. They lost a lot of their men at the start. There were thousands of specters in the dwarven fortress they dug into. Took them three months to defeat enough of them and Hrugguhul to bind them, so they would not walk the corridors. From that moment, they robbed the place clean and started digging to the giants' fortress, since the caverns are filled with monsters. Two minotaurs still work there. They heard from Bhintel that the party is coming, so they sacrificed people to summon demons. The drow mage helped in that act. Three Mariliths with their demonspawn walk the corridors now. Hrugguhul offered that he will take his men out of the fortress, to the mountains and return south. He would be of no use below. The party debated this and took this offer but with Guntul's life. He accepted and later Guntul joined the group. The group then debated what to do with the drow and after that, they decided that the mage will not take risks to betray them, while the warrior has a higher chance of survival if he escapes. Mario let Solange and Balasar decide his fate. They took him to another room and discussed what to do with him. After interviewing him, they saw there is nothing redeeming in him, so they executed him (with one swift punch to the throat). Another thing, the giants have an exit somewhere in the mountains, the drow don't know where. That's how those mutated got out. Then they talked to two of them, that looked more like cyclopi, and arranged an alliance. They helped them get to villages and take food. The party gaining all of this knowledge were ready to venture into the unknown.

Session 105: Reward for Betrayal

Firstly, the group discusses what to do. They met up with Guntul and Scarlett. The bugbear agrees to join them, even renouncing eating other humanoids (humans, elves, etc.). The party, for now, decided to return to the dwarven fortress, after taking a Long Rest in the magic mansion. Two players weren't during this session, so they were on guard duty in the throne room, while the rest explored. They left two estates, so this was their first stop. House of Kosoth, the wizard was first. Here the signs all pointed that his descendants didn't fight between themselves and exited the estate without fighting nor locking their magical door behind. They found two secret compartments, that the drow didn't find. No signs of bugbears. The first one had a stash of magic scrolls - Far Step, Investiture of Stone and Power Word Pain. While the other had an assortment on loose scrolls with Giants' language. Seemed like some cipher with strange drawings. The other estate belonged to Onul's family. Here the most of the king's family lived, while his closet one lived with him beyond the throne room. The king's sculpture was destroyed and the whole place was burned, with people inside, women and children included. Upon closer inspection, the whole family line turned into Duergars. Nearly 40 people died, burned alive. They didn't find anything of value that was left, the drow and bugbears took everything. It seemed like the bugbears were sent to rob places that were of little value.

CcL3YC9l.png

The group went back to the market. Balasar was able to find out that the market was below the warehouse, where they found those strange plates. They investigated the small shrine, moved a heavy statue and found a secret entrance. The market place was connected to the warehouses. They used this to bypass a lot of walking back. When they were back in the warehouses, they figured out the "puzzle", it was to click on the runes by alphabetical order. Every dwarf had their own set of values, every keep, every clan and house, so there was no single answer. It meant that you had to click them in the only order that was left - alphabetical. After that headache, there was more to come. They found out that the demons still resided in this place but left them alone for now, since there were four, not six of them so it would be a harder fight. They went to the main hall. Here devils were summoned. They cleared the blood from the ritual to find a map of the whole fortress, something they could have used before. After searching, they saw that there were some riddles under the statues of the four founders and Urist Thunder, their god. They needed to use Sacred Flame (or a wand they would find the temple if they looked around) and light bronze braziers in the right order that were set next to founders' statues. It took them some time and there were no traps set here. They unlocked the fountain and found three things. One was a box with 500 platinum coins. The second was a stone tablet from Onul, the founder, were recounted that they did a bad thing, buried it under another one, they were rewarded and with a smile, they lived on. After the tablet is found, the worst had to happen and hoped that those that founded it, might use it in the future to help them, since it was a gift from their new friends. This gift was the third thing. It was a sword that had its blade melted into the stone. It was magical. Balasar used a spell to communicate with the gods and ask some questions about it. It seemed fine. He had a moment to ask two more questions - they got an answer that the Giants' abominations have nothing to do with the gods and the Emperor isn't working with the Trinity, which was good news for Mario. Scarlett took up the blade, which transformed the melted form into a more solid one. The group moved to the "spa", which was more hot springs with baths. They found out that this place was used to summon demons, which in turn boiled alive human captives and their festering bodies still laid in the blood baths. This was the place we ended on.

Later they would learn that the blade was Magitech (Magitek), which was something the first humans (Actuvians) had and used against their enemies. The weapon can turn into any melee weapon, can release energies stored inside and is deadlier against aberrations (a power called Enemies between the Stars). You could call it nanotechnology weapon.

Session 106: Wrapping the Stones

The party discussed their next move, Solange joined them and decided to go check the aqueducts. This place was full of slime and ooze. They even found decomposing bodies of bugbears that were in the process of digestion but no creatures near it. After checking the black, moldy waters, they were attacked by ooze. Most of them were the all known black pudding, but one was giant yellowish. It had different resistances and when cut, it turned into ash. It was an arcane ooze, first sighting. They were able to defeat them after a while, not using most of their resources, they would need them later. After the fight, they checked around. Elhaeltôr joined them. Balasar reset the machinery and water would flow again after a couple of days of flushing. Solange and Scarlett found a dead dwarven mage with a Wand of Lightning, that was in the place where the Arcane Ooze was. They didn't check anything else, didn't dive deep into the black waters nor swam through the aqueduct. However, with this, they explored almost all of the fortress. There are three more places they omitted - some side caves and side rooms at the start. The group decided it is time to defeat the demons.

Marilith

When they got to the stairs, it was made so it would be defended by archers and pikes from above, you would have to go by ramps to get to the top. The party got almost to the top when they were attacked by Vrocks. However, it soon was revealed that the enemy knew about their movement and what is going on. Some invisible creatures, that were later revealed with magic, helped the demons - Invisible Stalkers, elementals. When the Vrocks surrounded the party, Mariliths teleported to the party. It would have turned bad but with Scatter, Holy Word and other crowd control magic, the party were able to turn the tide. Changed their position, fought from a better, took care of all the vrocks. In the end, the two Mariliths remained and some invisible stalkers.

No Solange, just one fight, the party finally went into the underground but missed some content on the way.

Chapter XIV

Session 107: Just a Little Below

The combat was quick since the party had most of their resources on their side. They took out the Mariliths and with their "deaths", the invisible stalkers disappeared. God-touched like Balasar, Mario and Solange felt that the demons were defeated completely and the fortress is cleansed of their presence. With that done, they went back to the entrance to the new territory. There they rested in the magical mansion. Two major things happened. First, Balasar learned, thanks to his special Aberrations book, that something like the mutated giants (in the caves with that slime, not those outside) are mentioned and drawn in the book. He had a natural 20, so he learned about a thing called Corrupted Life Spark and that it might be connected to a being that is mentioned in the book with the same symbol - a black sphere. Called the Hidden Master, Eternal Chaos, and Creator of Underground. Two of the three titles Balasar found before when he tried to get information about Eye of Many from the University, using that strange statuette they stole from the gnome that helped them get inside a temple. These beings seem to be separate but how and whom they are is not known. The other thing that happened was Elhaeltôr showing the rest more of his mansion and it being something connected to his memories, he used it to show him a random memory. It showed the moment Harthion saw the Fall, where the golden kingdom was destroyed and turned into a canyon, millions of people died. After that eventful night, the party ventured forth to the underground.

M5nRbpkl.png

Behir

One of their options was blocked by rubble that was taken care of minotaurs, who left long before. There were two corridors, but it would take ages to take care of rocks, the party decided to leave it. They went to the other option - a tunnel dug when the drow found the dwarven fortress. Nobody was in the worker's camp but everything seemed like the drow found this place by accident. The party wanted to go to the drow, so their "guide" told them how to get there. Either by the rotting trolls or try their success with the Behir, the group decided the latter. When they got to the main cavern system, they stopped due to finding strange mutated giants roaming the caves but were able to sneak past them. After that, they went through the hunting grounds of the Behir and yes, they were attacked. However, this creature was a lot bigger than what the group heard about them, they were created as attack dogs and used mainly by Storm Giants against dragons. This one had some special moves and tried to escape after the party was able to deal some major damage. Elhaeltôr used Disintegrate and there was nothing left to research for later. The party went through the Ooze Caves and were able to sneak past any slime looking waters to not be attacked by oozes. Yeah, the party skipped some hidden stuff by going fast through the caves, whatever. Next, there was a cave full of fungi and shrooms. Their "guide" showed where to go but seemed to hide something, another intimidate session and he revealed that the cave is full of Umber Hulks. Using Fly, they got past this danger and straight to the enemy territory. From what they heard, there is a giant stalagmite, which had its inners hollowed out and made into a base. The entrance is hidden with magic, while there are some "windows", there might be some secret passages but the mage doesn't know any of them. The party wanted to talk to them.

Session 108: Rotten to the Core

The party debated their course of action. Deciding that they will cast their mansion, leave the drow and bugbear inside, while they will go to the drow, to confront them and talk it out. The elves created a base inside a giant stalagmite, the group found only the magical illusion that hid the entrance but also the small holes to look for intruders and maybe even shoot at them. Nobody attacked the heroes. They got near the door, debated what to do again and even tried to check for traps when the drow inside got bored from the waiting and used mage hand to open the door. Inside the party saw over a dozen of drow. Two of them stand out. One had a blade made of shadow, they heard some tales from the drow mage that walked with the group. The other was none other than Ielmyh Krozoldred, their magical leader and one with connection to the archmage, the sponsor of this expedition. He wore a strange robe/cloak made out of stars. The group talked and it was apparent that Ielmyh knew who Elhaeltôr really was. The elf wanted to know more about Bhintel, which was a shock to Ielmyh that he didn't know anything. He revealed his real name - Phaendar Gold Leaf, a cousin to Harthion and a rival. Elhaeltôr tried to remember him, the name did sound familiar but the emotion he felt towards him was more of "he is nothing to me." Elhaeltôr had what he wanted. Mario asked more about their next goal, so Ielmyh revealed that this expedition is done, for now, since they have little to no chance to continue it. The dwarven treasure is long gone, taken months ago, so the party has no need to search for it here. Also, he told them (possibly a lie) that the drow mages responsible for summoning demons and devils were dead since the party had to fight them in the fortress. The party discussed their next course of action, Balasar wanting to fight them, while Mario and Elhaeltôr opting of leaving them alone. Ielmyh even proposed that - go away, do your stuff in the ruins and leave us. The party did go for this and left, later there was a heated discussion between Balasar and the rest of the team. A small rift between what to do. Between good and justice and I liked it. The drow were sent to kill them, at least they tried. They summoned demons and devils, they might be a danger to more people. Worse, they stole dwarven treasure and sacrificed people. They were more than deserving to die than anybody else. Mario felt that it wasn't to them to do it, not anymore. Elhaeltôr wanted the killing to stop. Scarlett and Solange were divided, while the halfling noting that they acted kinda like adventurers. Their druid didn't want more killing. Balasar wanted justice to be served, even if they won't kill them here, they should have been taken prisoner and presented before the dwarven clans to be judged. The discussion ended with disagreement. Later the drow mage they had with them was released from his bonds but not freed. He thought the party would escort him back to the fortress but there was none of that. He would go with them as a test, if he betrays them, he will die.

Rot Trolls

After resting, the party went back to the shroom cave. They ran through it, wanting to not fight anything. The Umber Hulks jumped from the ground but the group was able to dodge and weave out of it, escaping without a scratch. They went to the Rot Trolls. The drow explained that he knows about two entrances to the old ruins. One is through this place, straight into undead territory. While the other would need the party to backtrack a little, just about six hours, to get through another cave system but that one was filled with deformed giants. The party discussed their options and decided that going through the rot trolls might be faster and quicker. The cave they were in was filled with that strange greenish acid water and sulfuric rotten air. After the party got halfway, the waters moved and the rot trolls jumped out. They were able to fight their way through, however, it was harder than it looked. For starters, the cave reacted to the fight and spells that were cast. The waters created some strange mist (invisible to darkvision, this did necrotic damage) or exploded in geyser-like fashion (blocking escape routes) or send out rotting air around (giving some the Stunned condition due to the foul smell). The rot trolls were fast but still had to move through the rough terrain like the characters. The drow mage almost died and had to use some spells to save himself and even helped some with the offensive. The party had to use most of their tricks to get to the other side. They were able to defeat the trolls.

Session 109: Death Comes for the Overconfident

After the fight, the party regrouped. They were nearing the ruins, the Giant's laboratory. They thought that the bugbear and drow would die in the upcoming fights, so they decided to use magic. Elhaeltôr used the Demiplane spell to hide the two, while the rest would take a short rest. After that, they were alone to fight whatever there was in these halls. At first, they would see living quarters. Barely any tracks of anybody using these collapsed corridors and rooms, except for trolls. Those had to be from the cave before. They remembered that the drow talked something about undead. After dozen or so minutes, they found their first skeleton. A deformed dwarf, his armor melted to his bones due to age. They tried to get near him, to check the corpse out but it suddenly jumped. The party destroyed this undead swiftly and moved deeper. There were more simple undead on the way and more skeletons. After a while, they found the laboratory. Stone slabs of unknown purpose, except for a couple that helped in bloodletting. Most of them the size for a human, while others up to a giant's size. Cages with differing sizes, shelves. Nothing survived these millennia. Maybe it was ransacked long ago or two earthquakes did their job. The party ventured further and saw something on their way. They could easily omit this place and move to the next tunnel. However, this place was a round hall, with connected rooms like some cogwheel. The rooms were empty, whatever they were used for was gone, destroyed by time. In the center, was another circular room that had engravings alongside the exterior war. Giants, dwarves, fighting against dragons. Songs for the ages. There was an entrance to the circular room but it was blocked by violet mist (only Balasar saw the color). Using Detect Magic, they saw that the mist was Necromantic in nature. Mario felt about six undead in the vicinity, in the mist. The party decided that leaving them behind would be a bad choice. Mario used dispel magic and it made the mist move back but only a couple of meters, in theory, they would need about four dispel magic spells. However, suddenly something big came out of the mist, two skeletal giants with swords attacked the group.

q8A6xqSl.png

Corrupted Guardians

The fight was easy at first until magic spells (mainly cantrips but later more powerful spells) started to be cast from inside the mist targeting the characters. The skeletal giants deal huge blows but were easily overrun, however, they were six of these beats and two of them used the other entrance to the circular room to flank the party. Solange went inside the mist and felt that the necrotic powers overwhelming him. Eyebite was cast by the enemy and he fell asleep in the mist. Another dispel magic, more of the mist moved. Elhaeltôr later also cast one. The druid turned into an earth elemental to be under the structure and see what was above her with tremorsense (she couldn't get past worked stone but the fundaments were so deep). Using her knowledge they were able to pinpoint where the enemy was. Then the situation shifted. There was more mist. Mario ran towards in, fell down and died due to the casters and another giant appearing out of nowhere. Solange barely stood up, ran to cover and later was brought down with magic. But at that time the last dispel magic was cast and they saw their enemy. Two floating creatures with three heads, dwarves, that were deformed and connected to each other. Wielding bone staves and magic. Whatever these undead abominations were, the party was losing this battle. Balasar fell, Scarlett was asleep due to Eyebite. The party's magic was counterspelled by these creatures over and over. Elhaeltôr retreated, Baâ returned above ground, almost got hit while in human form by the undead giant and used Plane Shift to take the elf with her to the Evergreen (Feywild). Two out of six survived, the rest was killed and maybe turned into undead. The party did a lot of wrong actions. First, Mario could have used his Divine Sense many times to know the exact location of enemies. Second, going inside unknown mist where undead resides is a bad idea, always (it dealt 10d10 necrotic damage and half of it on successful test). Third, they didn't dispel the mist fast enough and moved to the enemy, essentially fighting on their ground. Fourth, this was an optional fight, they could have left this place.

With 4/6 party dead, we continue with Elhaeltôr and Baâ. Many things happened and I will need to take a move back to prepare stuff. Also, Scarlett/Finnean player will want to change his character, back to Finn. Balasar's player is thinking of changing his character too. Solange's player will be changing the monk subtype to Tranquil (Unearthed Arcana).

Session 110: Price of Time

Elhaeltôr and Baâ fall into the Evergreen (Feywild). Both are battered, the elf more so. Baâ tries to convince Elhaeltôr to continue on, however, the elf is shocked. Again he failed his companions and they died, he fled when everybody fell. This talk went for a while and they saw that they are in a new place in the Evergreen. At first glance, there was a lot of bark (the hairlike parts) but later realized that it isn't' bark but real hair. They were in the kingdom of an Archfey called Dziadyga (Old one, old man, grandpa, greybeard, whatever you want to translate it). The trees were surrounded and his beard, hair was all around them. Even this part of his land was called The Beard. Nobody knew where he had his lair. Elhaeltôr tried to use his spells to locate it but failed. The pair didn't have any powerful spells, so they had to search for answers. First, they tried to go with the hair, trying to find an end. No dice. They would have to travel in one direction for a long time and either they would find Dziadyga or the end of his hair. So, they did their second option, yelling. They tried to get the attention of this Archfey. Baâ knew a lot about him since he is kinda revered in the north. In the Taiga and the Crown Mountains, some folk and druids worship the old man but they don't treat him as Archfey. Only those knowledgeable know that he is one. One mountain called the Old One (Wielki Dziadyga) looks like him or more like it looks like an old man with long beard and hair. There are some folktales about him. Most center around that he likes stuff that are permanent or last very long time, that he likes to rest and nap, likes to tell stories and also, the tale that under his beard everybody will feel warm. Meaning a lot of northern, people living in very cold temperatures worship him in some capacity or more like a being worthy of reverence. Baâ tried her best but nothing happened. Then the hair moved and the party saw a familiar face. A spirit-like troll appeared, walking through hair. They remembered that they killed a very similar looking troll last time in Evergreen. The pair ran away.

Traveller
Fey?

However, when they stopped and looked around, they were at the start of their journey. They must have lost a lot of time. An idea showed up, they needed to walk through the hair like the troll, so they did. Walking through it made them change scenery and location, they weren't in the same place. Hearing a flute, something Baâ made for a certain Satyr, they were drawn to it. They met Simon the Satyr again, sitting on top of the only rock in the forest and playing his flute. The party tried hard to ask him for help but he didn't budge, he wasn't interested in helping, maybe later. Completely ignoring their pleas. Baâ felt that something is trying to mess with their emotions, trying to make them more angry at the satyr. She gave up, sat down and started to smoke her pipe. Elhaeltôr was doing his best and got irritated, that's when he rolled a nat 1 on his Wisdom Save and his anger rose, redirected at the Satyr, who slept and ignored him. Elhaeltôr not caring anymore came near the creature and tried to kick him when he felt a hand on his shoulder. The pair saw Harthion Gold Leaf, long gold hair, rich robes, commanding voice. However, he looked like he was made from the hair around them. Like some apparition. Harthion didn't recognize Elhaeltôr, ignored him and spoke at the satyr, who now was standing on the rock, with a very strange, natural look. Harthion spoke to Simon, calling him Traveller, like Elhaeltôr did today (he had a vision and connected the dots). He wanted to see the Archfey, that they shouldn't stop, to ignore other travelers, he has no time for games, etc. Very proud and arrogant elf. This was the moment the party got a glimpse of what Harthion was searching for - "I need this knowledge, to show HIM that I'm worthy. Nothing stands in my way. I will find any secret. I will find anything. I will know the truth behind the Gods and what makes them them. I will find the truth behind you, Traveller." This was the moment Elhaeltôr used his spell to burn the apparition and it did burn quickly, it still spoke like the damage did nothing to the vision. Then, instead of Simon and the rock, the party saw nearly two and a half meter creature, looking like some elongated elf. However, he had very long arms and fingers, armour made out of chitin, white marble skin, long face and ears, a helmet or circle or even his own horns. He looked bored. Elhaeltôr tried to get information out of him, why he did this and the creature or fey just told some riddle that he was curious and saw what was supposed to be seen and made what supposed to occur occur. He couldn't help them out but was willing to take them to someone who could help them.

d0Ek47v.png

Greybeard (Dziadyga)
Ded Moroz (Dziadek Mróz)
Old Man
Archfey

The pair followed the strange creature. They saw that for some reason, the way before him was clear, there was barely any hair in the way. Quite different from what the two of them had to go through. They did ask some questions. First, he revealed that the "spheres" are breaking and no matter when it happens, he will be able to travel again. Second, he traveled far, even to places locked and not even dreamt about yet. He isn't interested in the destination nor the start, just the journey. He even revealed that he and Simon are one and the same and at the same time not. Thirdly, he revealed that he didn't know what Harthion found when he met the Prince (the archfey of archfey) but he searching the truth behind the gods, their powers and how one can become one. Another piece of the puzzle. When they got to their destination, a room filled with hair, the Traveller disappeared. On top of a mountain of hair, filled with rocks, branches, leaves, and bones, they saw an old tired man. He recognized them, asked even why they are here, later, he asked it again. This made it clear that they needed to ask for help by asking in one long question, because the longer the conversation goes, the quicker he loses track of it. In short, they were given two options. First, was to leave. Dziadyga would open an exit, so they just can leave the Evergreen, no question asked. The second was that he could help them bring their friends back, however, there would be a price to pay. He didn't explain what exactly the price was, only that it was "time" and "it was a lot." Baâ was willing to pay the price, Elhaeltôr tried to convince her otherwise. "How many lives? Four? Four for one? I think that's a good deal." Baâ accepted the deal and Dziadyga opened the mountain of hair. Baâ entered and when Elhaeltôr tried, the hair snapped close. The elf didn't get any useful answers out of the Archfey, only that Baâ paid the price and he was sad because of it. Elhaeltôr then tried his luck of getting out and after a couple of minutes, he was able to get an exit. When he went to the corridor of hair, he saw Baâ in the middle of it. She looked like she regained what she lost - Hero Points! Yes, sacrifice gave her the Hero Points back, just like Mario. Elhaeltôr and Baâ went through the tunnel and after being blinded by the light at the end, they returned to the Material Plane. A top of the Golden West, like they asked and wanted from Dziadyga. Palarandusk, their gold dragon friend felt something nearby, something magical and went to check it out. Finding the party, he told them that everybody was worried and answered the question "How long we were gone?" "One year."

One year is not a lot but the kingdom can suffer a lot in meanwhile. By the way that party wipe was harsh. They must have been surprised.

Yes. I will need to sit down, check all the NPCs, factions and see how will they change by the year.
By the way that party wipe was harsh. They must have been surprised.
Surprised? No, just making mistakes. The party knows they did mistakes. They were surprised that there were two powerful casters inside, but they aren't surprised that they died due to overextending or anything like that. At least, I think so.
Thanks for the campaign journal
No problem, mate, at least somebody is having a blast reading through this.

We did Kingdom Building on the side. It went huge pretty quickly. More villages, more land grabs, and more stuff. I've compiled the major changes below. Also, the dead people had a vision each.

Chapter XIV
v1K2Hpa.jpg

Downtime: One Year, One Day

- Balasar saw Eye of Many who spoke about promises his made to Balasar, that he will fulfill them and even taunted him to leave the party to take his destiny as a hero. Before Eye of Many could repair his connection, the celestial hound appeared to save Balasar. He spoke that the fight only just began and they must gather their strengths, become stronger. In time, he will achieve his true destiny and the hound will kneel. Whatever that meant.
- Mario saw Rexgladio and he actually spoke to the archfey, who created the sword - Prince of Endless Branches. He offered him to follow him instead but spoke more in riddles. He revealed that the Gods do not serve Eye of Many and he isn't the most powerful being they take him for.
- Scarlett saw a smudge that looked like some halfling. He talked like he was lost and felt that, for some reason, he couldn't go to the afterlife, that something was keeping him behind. When he disappeared, Scarlett saw that she wasn't a smudge anymore.
- Solange met with Lord Sun, who was disappointed, a little, in him being overconfident since that killed his allies. He told him that he should not worry since he will look over him, however, he can't be only looking at him, since it will make a shadow that blocks other worshippers. He told him that he is on the right path, that showing him the Eclipse was him wanting him to steer him on the right one and telling the truth about himself and when he goes there, they will have a chance to talk again.

And now kingdom stuff. I will not put the whole update here to save me time since there's a lot of stuff that happened. A breakdown:
- Great Empire of Freedom was seen with agents in neighboring kingdoms (Halfling and a kingdom south of Kingdom of the Vale)
- Orcs are massing under one orc chieftain
- North tribes are joining under one sorcerer that has a connection to Ice Giants.
- Actur Kingdom still has the rebellion in Corbara.
- Oasis banished de Capodimonte (except for their Uncle and his line) because Mario was accused of kidnapping Vittoria.
- Knights of the Table were sent to the Red Mountains to hunt for dragon creatures.
- Kingdom of the Vale is happy with them. An embassy was created. The giants left for some reason.
- Traitors' Forests sees a surge in cultists that worship their Queen

- In Orth people are more reluctant to join. There was a moment where over 20 people were hanged overnight. Two of them was Lorenza (her was the merchant district) and Enialis (the half-elf the group didn't like, he had the south district). Calling everybody spies of Actur Kingdom or Kingdom of the Vale.
- The new adventurer's guild master becomes a council in Orth, dealing with the Merchant District, while Nevil Fastfoot, that old halfling the south district.
- Sigurd is deathly sick, he can't walk anymore.
- Ellyjoybell, the gnome guild wizard, leaves for the University.
- In Morqueto, the cult was destroyed and Elementi Revivo took over.
- Logemakam still wants the duergars and their citadel sends more dwarves to Undertethys.
- In Glimmermagak (the duergar fortress), the dwarven advisor is killed and many assassins tried to kill the king.
- The kingdom made a deal with the duergars for the slaves, giving them a lot of iron. Not only dwarves but also duergars, humans, svirfneblins, drow and other creatures.
- Elementi Revivo had good years, taking the whole east and some north. They built many villages like Longmarsh or Silverhills.
- In the last month, they were visited by high priests of the Trinity (Dominium) church, they were accused of heresy due to many shrines built to All-Father. If they don't rectify that with more temples and shrines to the Trinity, Dominium will call a Holy War on them.
- The kingdom took care of stragglers like the orcs, trolls and gnolls with adventurers and army. The latter took part mainly in taking care of the Golden West demon and undead problem.
- Garden Forest was taken care of by the Elementi Revivo.
- Ruins of River Delta (port city in the east) was taken by Elementi Revivo after a huge battle with undead who were steered by an undead admiral called Nicolosia de Bones.
- The volcano is filled with Fire Giants
- The archmage tower is becoming more habitable, need a year or two. The dark orb is gone, somebody took it, Elementi Revivo tell that it wasn't them.
- The neighbors sent thousands of more troops to Golden City.
- Elementi Revivo paid something to Actur Kingdom, said to be nearly one million in gold.

- Quennar leaves for Estel'Anoron to help their transition into the Kingdom. Annael Silver Blade is asked by him to join the council as Magister. Luigi becomes ruler. The Dragons decide to take care of the kingdom while the party is gone. Rearlin becomes Councilor. Finnean returns to become Grand Diplomat. Wiktor, the leader of the rangers, becomes the Marshal. Iesha wanted to help as High Priest but Finnean declined and took Solaire for the position. Octavio, Solange's main spy, became Spymaster. Vittoria would fully take her place as Consort, waiting for Mario's return.
- Later the dwarves leave (their army and bosses), not finishing fully the throne curses (two were left) because the duergar deal sealed their leaving. Johnathan would take Thalal's place as Warden.
- Three new armies would be created. Orc Wolf Riders, Rangers and Elite Hippogryph Riders.
- Many new buildings were created, some fulfilling orders that NPCs asked for like a Military Academy to gain access to Paladins of Lord Sun. The whole list is below.
- Many new settlements were created and two were taken (Aramoor and Estel'Anoron). This was Golden West (rebuilt), Moohill (many cows), Claywall (due to clay) and Shiny Darkness (for the kobolds). Only Drows still didn't have their place but the party did explore some Undertethys and found the ideal spot with Rare Herbs.
- Solange's parents came to work for the Kingdom as leaders of the paladins and priests.
- Estel'Anoron built a big monument to the alliance between elves and heroes.
- The strange people in Undertethys that the party met disappeared - killed or kidnapped.
- The party found a drow base in Undertethys under Claywall, this was taken care of with adventurers.
- They found a svirfneblin village called Sleepyhollow.

- Gianetta, Mario firstborn, returned to the kingdom, after a drow attack. She stays with her mother, Vittoria.
- Scarlett's family visited but the party was gone. They left a "we hope you are doing good" note.
- The Quickstep family moved in.
- Palarandusk found artifacts or more like their location. The Gold Hive, the Archdevil's toy was found in Castra Vetera.

Will update the first page after the next KB.

Here are the new maps. They aren't 100% up to date, will do that after the next KB phase anyway.

A lot changed so I had to redo (just some descriptions) Elhaeltôr and Baâ's return. Solange, Finnean and Baâ get new portraits. Solange finally is in a new subclass. Balasar and Scarlett leave the party at the end. Balasar goes to his family lands, Scarlett might join him.

Chapter XIV

Session 111: The True Price of Life

The dead ones wake up in cold cells. When they start to move, they feel metal parts, bindings. Their power sapped by antimagic effect, even their supernatural abilities. Each was in a different cell. The window on the door opened up, somebody checked up on them, closed and later armored guards came for them. Quickly they recognized them as the Black Rose, the Great Empire of Freedom's soldiers. Balasar even saw, thanks to his warlock sight, that they are undead. They were brought to a bigger room, waited for a sergeant since the soldiers didn't speak to them. The party talked among themselves and later were brought to a different smaller room. Here they saw a big man in some strange magical armor, his face was blueish, undead. He looked like a human, however, he had an aura of somebody important and powerful, even his voice was exotic to theirs ears. He sat behind a desk, writing up some papers. Also, he had an ancient armor in this room, looking like some relic from the time of Actuvians, so Roman like legionnaire armor. The party conversed with the man. His name was Lepidus, they were indeed in a Black Rose base and he was ordered to revive them and send them to their country. They were notified by some Fey about the party whereabouts, Lepidus sent his men with "The Butcher" to save the group and their bodies, the latter were filled with necromantic energies which prevented revival, so it took them months to clean them up. Now, they are alive and will be sent home, however, they will not get all of their equipment. The Great Emperor wants the Golden Hive, that ancient artifact of the Archdevil. If he gets it, Lepidus will return Rexgladio, Soul Edge (that strange nanotech weapon against Aberrations they found in the Dwarven ruins) and Timeless Spear (after they fought against constructs of time in the mage's tower, the clock's minute arm was used as a weapon). The party was angry at the Black Rose but it was revealed that the Emperor knows that the end is near, that this world is going to end and he is willing to help them since he too wants to save this world. Nobody made an oath to give the Golden Hive and the party was escorted out to a teleportation chamber.

Lepidus
Unknown Mage

There were more soldiers there and mages. The one conducting the Teleportation Circle was a moon elf. Strange bedfellows. When the party was released, they took their stuff from chests and saw one more mage appear above. Black robes, long staff, black-haired with a glowing green eye. He didn't speak, just looked at them while they were teleported out. The party appeared under Septima, the fort that they took from the Orcs long ago. The teleportation circle there was used to gain access to Golden Spring. Apparently, the Black Rose knows the teleportation circle to Septima, which is bad news. The party took a short rest to eat and drink since they felt like they didn't eat and sleep for months. The soldiers there were shocked that the heroes came here, instead of the castle. They told them a lot about how the country changed. The party teleported to the castle and saw how Luigi handles petitioners, apparently something about Fire Giants. Later, they met with Elhaeltôr and Baâ, who teleported into the throne room. I will not repeat what info they got but they did meet with Finnean and took care of their stuff. The party argued about what happened, what they will do. Scarlett decided to leave since she didn't want to experience death again, she is too scared. Balasar decided to leave for Isfahan and learn more about what's going on in his clan. Elhaeltôr and Solange went to the demiplane, found out that Guntul and that drow are dead. The bugbear snapped his neck, then died due to starvation and only wrote: "I kept my promise" (which was he will not eat any humanoid person again). The elf revived the drow, who was grateful but wanted to leave, he didn't want to live on the surface, he would rather return to the underground. Baâ made a shrine to Dziadyga and the Traveler as thanks for reviving their friends. The party later discussed their next course of action but still didn't agree on what it should be. Mario didn't want to give the Golden Hive, after talking with Raerlin on what it could do. Their artifacts could change battles, while the Golden Hive could create an infinite number of insects with the ability to control them (imagine creating a swarm as big as a country and sending it to destroy your enemies), which could win wars. The party didn't fully agree on what to do really, they would need to learn how to destroy the Golden Hive or something else. Also, they wanted to take care of matters of their neighbors, since the Dominium was looking at them with "HOLY WAR" in their eyes.

Balasar's player changes his character into a half-elf ranger. We continue with the plot and return to the giants' laboratory.

Chapter XIV
XdU1DyRl.jpg

Session 112: If You Fail Once

The party took care of resurrecting Guntul, the bugbear first. He was unfazed by being dead and was just hungry. Discussing their next move, the party moved to Elementi Revivo. They met with their neighbors and only two of them were present - Ishmael, fire genasi cleric of All-Father and ruler of the kingdom, and Reginaldo Archontinko, water genasi wizard from Oasis. They have changed after the year, gaining more powerful items. The party discussed with them the status of the kingdom. First, a couple of months ago, the Bourdeux family came to their kingdom demanding from Elementar's friend and benefactor Cassius Bourdeux money. Apparently, they considered the money that Cassius gave to Elementi Revivo to build their kingdom as money from the family and wanted back but with interest. A 200,000gp sum turned nearly into a million of gold pieces. Cassius was furious and everybody knew what was behind this, they wanted to make the country kneel and pledge fealty. However, Ishmael was going to be intimidated or tricked into such action, so he told that he will pay up, later, and he did. Nearly one million gold pieces went to the coffers of the royal family. Fast forward couple of months later, Ishmael built a lot of shrines to All-Father, none to the Trinity, so they get a sudden visit from the Dominium (think the Vatican) and the bishops don't like what they see. The Holy War threat came from the bishop of Ilios, the more warrior-like god. They wanted temples built to the Trinity but Ishmael wouldn't allow himself to be intimidated or pushed to do something like this. They knew that this must be another move by the Actur Kingdom to make them bend the knee, which again Ishmael said he probably will do in the future but won't under duress. The group came up with an idea and decided that they will exchange religions. The party would pay up and built a temple of Trinity in the capital of Elementi Revivo, while their neighbors would pay for a similar temple but of the All-Father, a sign of cooperation between the kingdoms. Ishmael agreed to the terms. They went to the bishops, who were under the boot of Bishop of Eris (the neutral, judge goddess), called Bishop Vespillo. It was revealed that the person that sent them there was no other than the Cardinal Cathrin Herzig, who is the leader of the Valena side of the Trinity church. She was troubled by reports that worshippers of Trinity might be under the boot or something. They wanted spiritual unity under the Trinity, even now and only with faith will they survive. There was some discussion but the bishops decided to leave, after assurances that the temple will be built. With this, the matter was resolved and they left their neighbors.

Yoi56bem.png

Alyssa

The party visited Sigurd and found his place was furnished, somebody (read Gwendolyn) added flowers and decorations. However, there was somebody new in the house. In light armor, grey colored hood, a woman guarded Sigurd, who couldn't move outside his chair with a blanket over his paralyzed legs. She was mysterious but was very interested in the group. The warrior revealed that he might have half a year up to a year left, he wanted more time but last ordeals changed everything. Humilipugio, the short sword still was in his possession. They showed the blade, it started to scream to take him and after a while started to laugh - he didn't see Rexgladio anywhere. Sigurd asked and the party revealed about what happened - they died, Great Empire resurrected them and wanted an artifact. Alyssa asked if they wanted the Golden Hive, which the party confirmed but it was strange that she would know such a thing anyway. After some back and forth, the party revealed whom they met and Alyssa was shocked. Started asking the right question about how he looked, armor, etc. Sigurd asked her to stop, she pleaded but he declined. Another discussion, Sigurd didn't want to drag the party "into his world" and there was no need for it since this information will not help them save people and the world, just hinder them since the organization will kill if information spreads. They revealed, however, that the person that the group met was no other than Legati Lepidus, one of the legendary Legati from nearly 3000 years ago when the humans fought against the giants. If he was raised as undead, then everything fits. The Great Empire "suddenly" gained an army nearly one million strong, which is unheard of in those parts, hundreds of thousands of soldiers. How? Undead, that was the reason. The south was filled with bodies and they feared that they could go "to the past" and dig up graves from 3000 years ago, raising old Actuvian soldiers. With Legati Lepidus confirmed, then it's not an "if" now. The party tried to convince Sigurd to reveal them the info but he didn't budge, so they left.

Background: Far Traveler
Alignment: True Neutral

Chosen Skills: Acrobatics, Insight, Perception, Religion, Sleight of Hand, Stealth, Survival
Tools: Calligraphy
Languages: Common, Elvish, Sylvan, Primordial

Interesting Tidbits:
- He grew up in Estel'Anoron. He was very much pro-elves, up to the point of werewolf attack
- Went on soulsearching journey, got lost in Evergreen (Feywild), where he met with the Traveler
- Traveled a lot with him, each time to a different place
- Returns to the Material Plane, after many years, feels out of place, rejoins with Estel'Anoron.
- Helps the kingdom with the undead and demon menace.

Party later went to Estel'Anoron, saw their new monument and met with their future party member. They discussed who he was and what were his skills. There was some arguing since some didn't want to take him anyway - it was deadly enough, no need to take people they don't trust. However, after a while, everything calmed down and they went together. Using the Teleport spell, the party returned to the giants' laboratory, where they saw the first undead. They found evidence of the Butcher (empty vodka bottles) and the place of their last fight. The black sludge was gone, the undead also, only parts of them. Nothing else was left. Aerandir told the party he recognized the type of undead here but never fought against them, they are too dangerous. The party agreed and ventured forth, leaving the place. In the next series of corridors, they found evidence of trolls, decided to sneak around and found them. They were bigger than normal trolls, mutated somewhat (Dire Trolls) and dangerous. The party snuck around but came to a place, that they needed to pass but was filled with trolls.
