It's not a button masher, just like TW wasn't a button masher either. Much like in TW you have to time your attacks deliberately. But just like in TW2 the attack+roll combo will get you through the entire game no matter your build.

As for commie, I'm sure he would enjoy the hell out of DS, because face it you enjoyed fucking Two Worlds 2, but he's too busy crusading against fanboys to allow himself to have fun with it. So, no, it's not the holy grail of RPGs, it has plenty of shortcomings, it's still an immensely fun game, stop wasting time trying to prove fanboys wrong and start having fun.
