some really messy houses and maybe a few burned out things would help as well, but i'd rather they focus on finishing the areas for the rest of the game first and save stuff like that for last.

Trouble is, as this is set when the dead first start rising, they'd need to make multiple versions of the maps, as it wouldn't make sense for there to be burnt out things and mess everywhere until a few weeks in. Look outside, how many burnt out houses do you see?

i am talking about the very occasional burned out car or just burnt patches and messy not due to decay but (former) occupants. people like to burn things and molotovs are easy to make, so i'm willing to bet any given zombie apocalypse would have quite a substantial amount of fucktards trying to burn zombies and said zombies in turn setting fire to various things, including those fucktards.

I think some fires, even in the first few days, is entirely reasonable. There are no firefighters or utility workers (gas lines, power lines). Remember the explosion in brooklyn a few weeks ago due to a leaky gas line? And that's with a large, manned staff. Also, any kind of manufacturing or production facilities would represent a huge fire risk. The West, Texas explosion last year is a good example. On top of that there are high pressure gas tanks, pyrophoric manufacturing processes, and all the requisite pumps and motors that need constant attention. All it takes is some residential housing to be near (within a wind-blown roof fire's distance) a fire and that shit would spread.

And don't forget all the atomic reactors dotted across the US. When the lights go out, they'll be popping like champagne corks.

Your first world privilege is appalling. You should check the fuck out of it.

Wow, I'd never given the post-apocalypse fire any thought, but this is an excellent point that raises another question in my mind; would any cities be standing more that a few years afterwards? I live in Boston, presumably one of the more regulated cities in the US, and there's no firewall between my apartment building and the one next door (although it would be required were the building built today. Without people looking out for small sources of fire and no fire departments to put out large fires, it seems inevitable that small fires would start easily and spread widely, leaving only the toughest of stone/cement buildings standing.
