There are many good strategy games that for some reason aren't available from Steam/GOG/Slithterine or any other digital seller that I'm aware about.

Yeah. Abandonware sites are an option, but I'm just wondering why IP owners aren't milking those titles.

I always hear a lot of old wargaming grogs talking about Age of Rifles. I heard the A.I. sucks but it has a lot of scenario's and wars not covered in computer wargaming. I have to try it out some time. I really wish someone would make a Franco-Prussian war game but it will never happen probably not commercially viable.

Well it uses sprites for units like older Total War titles, so there can be lots of men in battlefield simultaneously.
I'll probably buy the one that depicts Waterloo at some point in the future, but I didn't know about the demo version.

Not played it yet, but have played its predecessor when it was sold on battlefront website. I really like the balance between easy enough to play, but still deep game play and tech tree. Its turned based, and previous versions had large mod community and tons of developer updates, fixes, and add ons. For instance I am sure they will add a pacific campaign add on and then combine it to make the entirity of WWII playable on a world ma, like they did with the previous version.

Also games at Matrix/Slitherine I enjoy:

Most of the above titles are not for everyone, they are detailed to very detailed and are not made with modern computer GUI and graphic expectations but if you enjoy detailed wargames they might interest a person.
