Deus Ex eyecandy mods?

I want to replay Deus Ex and I've found that there are some very good graphic mods out there (from wikipedia). Which ones should I install? Are those all of it? Or are they outdated?

[edit] Graphical and core modifications
(Including: Visual and internal core updates)

High-Def Texture Pack – Updates object graphics from original (32x32) resolution to a new minimum 256 resolution and potential 1024 resolution.
Deus Ex: New Vision Mod – Complementary to HDTP – Updates world graphics to a potential 1024 resolution.
DeusEx ~ Ultra High Quality Mod – Another mod to complement HDTP and get a little more texture enhancement.
Enhanced OpenGL Renderer – Updated homebrew version of the OpenGL renderer, which makes the graphics sharper (in addition to providing AA and AS filtering); also includes a Direct3D edition that is usually not as up-to-date.
Deus Ex: Reborn Mod – Mod that is actually for the UE2 graphics engine, the one used in Unreal Tournament 2004, to recreate the game in it.

Just get the enhanced d3d/opengl renderers, and tweak the options yourself. That's basically what all the other mods do anyway (never used the Reborn mod, but that I guess is a total engine conversion anyway). HDTP sounds good, but last time I tried it (which was rather recently) it did not offer much.

Use the DX10/9 renderer and the ENBseries for maximum visual flair.

HDTP is only in a demo release so far, so it doesn't cover everything.

Just tried ENB series and the game looks like pure shit. The extremely artificial bloom and bump mapping, contrasting to the simple 3d models, makes the game look damn weird. I think I should stick with the vanilla graphics unless some really good graphic overhaul comes out.

I agree actually, I never use ENB, but some people like it, I think.

HDTP and New Vision are both worth it though.

ENB can be really good if it's tweaked. The default options aren't that good. Some surfaces still look strange but in conjunction with the New vision mod it looks really good imo. Especially the lighting effects/contrast works wonders in the night-time environments of deus ex. Here is my enbseries.ini for anyone that wants to try it :

The DX10 renderer doesn't add bloom or any other silly effects, its only purpose is to display the graphics correctly on modern computers.

If anyone's interested.

will it run under XP if I have a DX10 card?

can the new visions mod only be run with it's own GLRenderer or any renderer?

That HDTP has been dead for years D:

No it isn't, they just haven't updated their website for years. If you look at the forums, you'll see that it's not very far from being completed. The new models are mostly done. I think it will be released sometime this year.

It looks like there is an active unofficial patch project going for Deus Ex here. Guy who is working on it set up a google dev page but I couldn't find any package with current fixes so far. It looks like he only started it a few months ago so might not be at that stage yet.

Anyone else got the problem that sometimes with opengl the game is extremely dark? I must restart several times until it goes away.

Nope :smug: . I really want to use the D3D10 renderer though (doesn't look that much better than the opengl one, but still); I wish the WINE devs. would finally fix/complete their DX10 code and not start fucking around with DX11.

try Alt-Tab to Desktop and then switching back to Deus Ex.

I have to do that every time I start Deus Ex in 1680x1050, afterwards it works fine. In D3D.

A beginners question, is there a way to actually stay crouched? Or do I have to keep the crouch button pressed all the time?

look in the keybindings. A "crouch toggle" button can be assigned.

not in the control bindings, but I found a flag in user.ini: bToggleCrouch=True
much easier on my fingers now ...

Ah, you know in the goty version at least, crouch is by default in toggle=true
