^ It's even more sad knowing that Human Devolution will have none of that and will be a linear corridor crap.

Yeah, there were ways to avoid boss battles in the first Deus Ex. Most of them buggy/unintentional. But there were boss fights and you were meant to fight through many of them. Which is why complaining about HR having boss fights just to complain that there's boss fights is stupid. Fucking codex.

The tone of the hype suggests that they know what they're 'supposed' to be saying - as in, they seem aware that dumbing down HR would not be a good idea, and that people are in fact expecting some substance to the game. If the publicity release had been like 'DESTROY 1 BILLIONS OF ENEMIES WITH ACCURATE BOOB JIGGLE' I would have written this game off. As it is it feels like they're at least trying - no guarantee of success, but a little reassuring nonetheless.

Though I still hate that stupid 'special move' crap they seem to have introduced :vomit:

First Deus Ex had boss encounters. Dumbfucks.

Only Anna (who would be bugged past or skipped via killphrase) and Howard Strong (who would glady blow himself up with a LAM for you and wasn't any stronger than any other character) were forced fights. The other "bosses" could be avoided.

There's Hermann as well - again, avoidable via killphrase. The Anna one doesn't really work like a boss-fight if you kill her in the plane as well - you can just empty a clip into her before she can react.

The Water Simons fight can be delayed, but not completely avoided (it's the only guy you absolutely have to kill to progress the game). However, delaying the Simons fight, avoiding killing Hermann and avoiding the fight with the Hong Kong actress (forgotten name for now) all feel VERY artificial. They consist of you just turning tail and running.

Uh, exactly? You could run from both of them on all encounters (The same for Maggie Chow if you didn't KO her in your first encounter). You aren't required to kill them.

I had a "Fuck my existence" vibe as Beth released more details abotu Fallout 3.
I had a "this may not be too bad" vibe with Alpha Brotamole and NV.

I'm getting the latter here. I think we'll like it. :M

There's nothing wrong with the principle of 'show the intent through the body language / facial expression', but it gets implemented so awfully. The folks making the animations seems to have no sense of emotional subtlety, so what you get is the facial animations akin to the most godawful community theatre actors on the planet. You know - if the guy is angry, he does 'angry face', if the guy is sad, he does 'sad face'.

redemption: if one can wear a Penguin disguise & whack a mime w/a pimento loaf

Looks like a cross between Mass Effect 2 and CoD 4.
