Prime evils, whatever. 5 of them are dead, theres 2 left, enough for D3 and its expansion.

There's only three prime evils. There's five lesser evils, IIRC.

There were 3 Prime Evils, all of them killed by now - Diablo, Mephisto and Bhaal. They were rulers of Hells, untill banished by the 4 lesser evils.

However there are 4 Lesser Evils, who in ages past had overthrown the Prime evils, and banished them to the world of humans. those were Duriel, Andariel, and 2 more, whose names I happen to have forgotten right now, the last two being the remaining rulers of Hell, since the times of the banishing of the 3 (they were Generals in the Army of Hell before that), but after the banishing of the 3 these 2 turned on one another.

As evident, at some later point Andariel and Duriel have joined Diablo.

So there are still premises for a new Diablo, though I suspect that the lack of the title character would lessen the appeal (imagine Kill Bill where there is no Bill and further more noone is killed). OF course, at any given point BN can do a prequel game, but I doubt that, or a console spin off - remake of the original Diablo and/or Diablo 2. with the ongoing online/multiplayer of both PS2/X Box, and all the rumours that the next gen consoles would all have Internet connection, it would be small wonder that Blizzard, who are nothing more than a new company that would milk their popular WarCraft, StarCraft and Diablo franchises, since hardly anyone from the original teams that has worked on these games remains, would switch sides and jump on the console bandwagon.

Face it, they have already did that 2, with the best examples in World of Warcraft, A MMORPG sequel to an RTS game, and SC:Ghost, action title aimed solely for consoles (the original developers Nihilistic were obviolsly planning a PC version as well, but I doubt that this is still coming, since it changed dev once and the next gen versions are probably being developed as well, hence the long delay). A console Diablo spin off would be a fitting addition to their portfolio, if you ask me.

IIRC, even though you diced up the prime evils neatly, I'm pretty sure it said they were "thrown into the abyss" or somesuch at one time. Diablo'll be back whenever they feel like it.

Azmodan and Belial are the other two known lesser evils. There's nothing that says there aren't any more lurking about.

So, I'd say they've got a fair bit of leverage if they need to dig up any prime or lesser evils for vanquishing.

I think most Diablo 2 fans would be happy enough with an improved engine/gfx Diablo 3.

There is no way (I mean no meaning ful way, that ties up with the story of the previous games, though no one of the Diablo fanboys care 'bout it) to bring back Diablo since we destroyed his Soulstone in Act4 (though the actual process of it was skipped somewhat). That would be full of bull. Shit that is.

It's fantasy. It might not make complete sense, but it wouldn't be much more crazy than a lot of other things. Here's a stab: The prime evils are not the sort to be killed easily. They didn't have soulstones from the beginning, being trapped in them was part of their plans.

Here's a passage I found: "... Diablo and Mephisto have been banished back into the Black Abyss that spawned them ...".

Though this bit gives them less wiggle-room: "Only by destroying the Soulstone which he carries will his spirit be banished forever".

Not that any of this matters, if they want Diablo there'll be Diablo, one way or another.

Chances are, it won't be called Diablo. Blizzard's got enough fame to pull off a game with a new name and have it sell well, even if it's a sequel. They can always call it:

I want it 2D, and I'm sure the mojority of D2 fans would agree, I'm also sure it will be using some bloated 3D engine. Which sucks. Because D2's graphics are still king.

Diablo was already on consoles. That's where I played it as I never touched the Diablo series on PC.

Nope, they are. Diablo had better animation by far, and the atmosphere was perfect. Diablo 2 seemed to lack that.

No, they suck. A major one, besides, since they have improved a little over the 1996's Diablo grafics, and it came 4 years later. With a much larger need for resources.

There is no Diablo on consoles, as far as I know.

edit : Fuck. The original Diablo was indeed ported on the PS(1). But the sequel is not.

I have played Diablo 1 on the PS1 with a mate. Actually, two different mates. It was about 7 years ago.
I was drinking on both occasions, but, I assure you, I was not hallucinating.

Edit: I was obviously posting as you were editing.
"Apologies me lady..."

Why do people try to make up shit?

Yes. Diablo was consolized a long time ago. And, it's console version was likely better than the PC version since you don't need two machines to multiplay on it.

Actually, the PS1 version of Diablo was a big, stinky turd. The most tragic part was the great lengths I went to in order to get it off eBay. Put it in the old PS and was so horrifed by what I saw it was never played again. It was until this post I had repressed those traumatic memories.
