Who the fuck is this humongous cockgagging fag to tell us to lock a fucking thread? Fuck off you fucking homo before I stab your eyes out with my massive meat silo.

I heartily lawl'd at this reply. I give that retort two thumbs up, with extra points for taking the time to let everyone know you have a big penis.

There is a gothic grittiness to the Diablo II...

The "gothic grittiness" came from a 2000 game being built on an early 90s color pallet and resolution. It's hard to believe Diablo II and Icewind Dale were released at the same time.

Yes, I understand why. But still, geez, as if color is the most important thing ever. I don't give a fuck as long as the gameplay rocks.

Gameplay is repetitive and quickly becomes boring. And "color" is not colour but atmosphere. This is what they are throwing overboard for no understandable reason. It is a bad decision, imo, and I can understand if people bitch about it.
People whining about people bitching certainly aren't better.

How is it a bad decision when, WHEN THEY PLAYTESTED IT, it turned out that having the enemies blend so much with the dark colours and such that it hampered gameplay?

Are looks more important than gameplay? Answer.

No they are not, but changing the color scheme is changing the atmosphere and the atmosphere is very important for the game. Just imagine if Bloodlines had cartoony color scheme like WOW. It wouldn't influance gameplay, but it would certainly take away atmosphere and saying atmosphere is not important is just, no offense, but stupid.

Besides, if they really had a problem with enemy blending into the dark colors, wouldn't be smarter to just add a bit more color to the creatures?

Actually changing the color scheme is the least damaging way to change the atmosphere. The atmosphere was created from a collection of elements like sound effects, music, movie clips, monologues of town characters and special characters, random quests and even game play helped in creating the atmosphere.

Agreed, but in combination with the art direction.

yeah, that excuse that the creatures blend in with the background is pathetic when you can color the creatures to stand out more from the drab background and each other.

I sort of understand the idea that the same drab color throughout may get boring for some. If the reward is the color ... Not sure I buy that either.

Consistent atmosphere is something more tangible to me.

Oh look, someone called people who don't like the fact that they made Diablo 3 more bright and colorful than the other games goths as an insult.

Suggest gritty dark palette for Eurogamers, brighter colours for Americans and Anime sunshine for the Japanese.
