I'll try pirating it. Those hacked servers usually have some interesting people.

Oh crap. They beat Torchlight 2?

Hah, my thoughts exactly. I like the Runic guys but they are taking way too much time polishing TL2. Prior to December they said they just needed more time to put the finishing touches on it/test it/whatever. Said they were going to do a 'short' beta, too. Now, four and a half months later they haven't even started their beta (which I'm sure will take at least a month) so, at best, you're looking at a concurrent release which will kill them sales-wise. Runic dropped the ball big time.

Well I certainly won't be spending my money on this. I was a bit excited about it, but as the time flew by and Blizzturd revealed more and more things I didn't like about it I lost interest. And the thing is, I was a bit interested because there was nothing new good to look forward to. Now, with Wasteland 2, I can only :kfc:...

If there's a decent preorder deal for it, I'll consider it. Not paying $60, though.

So to get a digital download copy I have to fork out AU$79.95, but my US friends only have to pay US$59.95 (Aus dollar is worth more than the greenback at present), so I go online and manage to preorder a boxed copy with free delivery for <AU$40.

Digital download used to be attractive when we could get them for the same price as our US friends, but now most companies have adopted "regional" pricing I'm buying more and more stuff on disc again (aside from the occassional Steam sale item). So much for the age of pure digital delivery...

I'll be getting it. I didn't even like Diablo 2. I don't even know why I'm getting it because all signs are pointing in the wrong direction. Fuck.

Starting that day, gamers with a thirst for fast-paced action and adventure will be able to purchase Diablo III at retailers throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.
At least Blizzard gets its genre right :bro:

I was wondering why this POS was getting so much attention while we can talk about a real game in the making. Then I saw that this thread consist mostly of 3-4 posters talking about shitty Hollywood movies. :bro:

I was truly looking forward for this game, but now not so much. With the upcoming wasteland 2, this game looks bleak in comparison. Still it should be fun to kill the time till wasteland 2 comes out.

Torchlight 2 is the only "action adventure" I'm looking forward to right now.

TL2 is going to suck ballz, just like the original did. You need a big budget to do this kind of game properly. Everyone makes fun of Blizzard for taking so long to put the game out but the game simply isn't fun if you don't tune the shit out of the skills and items and enemies.

I wasn't a huge fan of Torchlight. Levels felt repetitive and enemies, especially bosses, were boring. I think Diablo 3 can be a lot of fun at Inferno difficulty level. The beta was pretty boring but that's only the first 2% of the game.

By Runic's own admission TL1 wasn't a fully fleshed out game. TL2 will have much more polish from the playable classes, to the bosses, to the dungeons, etc.

Diablo 3 looks like it was designed to take the full advantage of horsepower now available in 3DFX Voodoo5. Ohboy ohboy, will it have Glide support?

Cutscenes aside, it looks like an ambitious indie game. Most of the content is randomized according to balancing algorithms, rather than placed by hand. Procedural approach is always the best for low-budget products, and D3 is mostly procedural. Algorithms are a lot easier to tune than going through hundreds of areas and re-editing them.

And nobody cares for the elaborate scripted sequences in this sort of game. Especially considering that in Diablo2 they were passive, and in Diablo3 they take camera and control away from you, striking directly against its intended replayability.

Not sure where the budget went there, really.

The engine was obviously iterated from WoW, they clearly spent ZERO time inventing a unique art style because it was also taken from WoW, the inventory engine and a lot of other mechanics translate almost directly from WoW into Diablo 3, the dead giveaway being the new Town Portal, which is basically WoW's hearthstone.

I guess WoW code didn't readily allow reproduction of proper Diablo town portals, so they marked this as a "gameplay improvement".

I have a lot of hope for Torchlight 2, because now that they have the first game to iterate upon, there's been evidence of massive amount of progress they made in regards to making Torchlight 2 very similar to Diablo 2 - several acts, character classes, LAN play, proper Town Portals, iterations on old mechanics instead of streamlining them, etc..

Add a few blurry shaders to smooth out low poly counts, and you'll be hard-pressed to tell the difference visually.

At the very least TL2 will only be $20. Diablo 3 is going to be isometric WoW... for $60.

I was obviously referring to budget in terms of time spent iterating, experimenting, and balancing. But, yeah, let's knock Diablo 3's art style when Torchlight looked like a bad Disney movie.

Torchlight 1 was banal shit boring. It is seriously the worst Diablo-like I've ever played. There was not a single thing fun about it, and the main draw, the loot system, was just "get equipment with higher numbers on it hurrrrrr". Not to mention it was shit easy.

My excitement level for D3 went from "raging boner" to "semi hardon" from the time it was announced to its current state. I'll probably buy it since my friends are, but I'm not crazy for it or anything.

And fuck Torchlight 2.

I like how people are judging Torchlight 2 by Torchlight 1 without doing a single bit of research about it.

I judge Diablo 3 by what I've seen of Diablo 3 - not Diablo 2, not Diablo 1, and not Titan Quest or someshit.

I don't trust Blizzard to deliver anything besides the same old shit. Wings of Liberty was the Same Old Shit. WHY SHOULD I SPEND MONEY ON A COMPANY THE NETS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR RELEASING THE SOME OLD SHIT?

Having said that, I'm kinda eager to see my friend play it, just to see.

The Beta for this game is mind numbing. Bored shitless in about 20 minutes.

If you must play a Diablo style game go get a key for Path of Exile, at least that game feels like a spiritual sequel to D2 and the customization is overwhelming.

Also will be free to play....

It's all about the item casino and skill decks. I plan on ruining my life and suing Activision/Blizzard for enabling my gambling/drinking/hooker addictions. I then plan on using said settlement to gamble, drink and buy more hookers. I then plan on suing Activision/blizzard and the legal system for enabl......

Why not just Diablo 1?

It does look quite ugly these days.
