I liked some of the D2 mods that utilized D1 mobs but I haven't seen a D2 mod redrawn doing all of D1, unused quests and hellfire.

A real interesting thing to note is you descend in the cathedral but look at that building? There is plainly a second or third story and steeples in the church.

That's extra real estate to explore imho. Lot's of little areas in Tristram that could be expanded upon. TheHell, beelzebub and some other mods are nice in that respect.

And while I'm at it the confusing Diablo 3 map ???

You know, I think I read something about that. Besides the quests not implemented it seemed like that was a possibility. Tbh, I think the town map was rushed a bit so the just started to fill in the ease of egress access points. It seems bigger before run mode via hellfire.

It's been more than a year (first impression wasn't nice, TH1HD still da best) since my last encounter with TH2 and same problem - don't know which class and subclass to pick. So much narrowing and limiting crap...
Guess it's time to start collecting uniques like I did in TH1.

Played it a bit with sword+crossbow subclass.

So far it's pretty easy, which is really weird for a mod that started as hardcore experience for easy game.

When you create character they give you perks like in Fallouts - with drawbacks, some of them really severe.

There are 2 sets of difficulty but only Ironman Hardcore-like affects the loot.
It also contains special options (can't be turned off later) one of them disable retreating ranged monsters (succubi, archers). In TH1 your warrior used crossbow for that situation.
You can make character more durable (not useful when you don't get surrounded by melee, but really great when faced archers/casters), less HP for monsters, make damage universal (no more blunt=undead or slash=beasts thingy)... but nothing that would affect drops so whatever for me.

Which means you can create character with good perks, that gives you severe drawbacks, and then pick easier modifiers in New Game menu.

Those NG modifiers might be good for normal playthrough, but not so great when you go to special quests/dungeons with it's own modifiers, which furthers limits what you can wear.

oh and you can enable all quests at once, no randomizers at the start of new game...

Is it possible to remove the spell cooldown by extracting and modifying a text file like in D2?

I'll give that a try.

By the way this mod has a great atmosphere. Way more intense than vanilla or Belzebub.

Played a bit, reached crypts from Hellfire expansion pack, cleaned a bit and stopped.

Game is even easier because enchanting gear at Adria is stupid powerful. Griswold is dealing with gems (turning 3 into one but higher tier, socketing... all that costs precious gold on Normal) and frankly they sucks.
The only downside is the cost of enchanting and repairs. You can buy Blacksmith Oils from Griswold but not Oils of Repair. Oh well...
So it's better to buy normal gear from Griswold, or find one in the dungeons, but not so much drops (probably balanced for MF Magic Find characters?) and they can have varied rolls - sometimes two different armors (like for example heavy leather vs. light chainmail) can have same defence value. Then same armor can have higher stats requirements and price.

Turns out resistances doesn't matter that much when you craft "-X damage from demons/undeads/beasts" with "-X damage from enemies" and other useful enchants on armors.
Arrows aren't that deadly now too, even less with some enchantment. In the originals mobs with bows were literal walking fire platoons, where jumping out of the corner without good defences left wet crimson puddle on the ground.

Finished new quest that requires slaying Cerberus beast in Ravenholm. Who knows maybe we get even more new areas in The Hell 3?
In most cases you can clear 1st map (out of 2-3) in side quests but later they gets worse modifiers and more deadly mobs. In orignal TH1 they were really difficulty - you could clear them on Normal only with characters capable of doing Nightmare with proper gear.

Forgot about the stash. Now you have to buy tabs - first one costs 17k gold and another costs 10k gold more than the previous.
Used to collect uniques in TH1 but now? When most of them have severe drawbacks (like sword that reduce AC on Normal by -20)? Nothx. I can craft something similar or better with no drawbacks. At least you can get Attack Speed from different sources now like jewelry, not sure if you can craft it on a weapons?
In TH1 space was unlimited but also easier to find required items when you have listed both names and properties while searching though. Now you need to hover over items to get what you need. Which become a problem when you accumulate a lot of items and rarely play it, good luck looking for "That" item you need to pass side quest map...

Also they removed special effects of Fury like splash damage which really helped when you got cornered...

The hell got easier? I recall TH1 had a nasty difficulty spike and i was playing diablo all the time. Kind of surprised it is simple easy now.

Is every enemy having multiple immunities really necessary? Why limit the player's options so much.

AGAIN?! I thought this was done with updates? It is annoying to re-download this every update.

Oh wait.. TH3. It needs its own thread.

What was the last update to TH1? I wonder what hard drive I left this on when my xp machine was running? Good thing I have a HD dock to check if I find the drive. I know I played the hell out of that game. It was fascinating seeing the difficulty and extra quests compared to the older mods I had. It really made vanilla diablo seem like a snorefest. I barely touched TH2. Severe Diablo burnout around the time I was messing with belzebub (v1.045 2014 last update) and waited to play Tchernobog (this gad a jan update i guess).

Hmmm... the original TH site. It has been a while and where are parts 1-4 or were there any?
Mega crapped out on me and mediafire has nothing. Great, a different type of loot hunt on harddrives. :/

Edit... anyway; I checked my old old Toshiba 2gig drive (lordy it takes a bit to boot up). And here are some redults:

So, I have up to version v1.106 but I swore there was a v1.166 or maybe v1.666 (cheeky it be). I'd have to pack my shit up and get to the library to upload to mediafire on one of my accounts. Kind of shitty it was removed at all imho.

Last official update to The Hell 1 is 1.235. You can get it on moddb. There was an older HD version of The Hell 1, but it was quite a bit buggy as far as I know - I think it was around version 1.230 or something like that. I have it somewhere on my HDD.
I think TH2 and TH3 are very good, but they are a little bit bloated with some controversial features. I would love a real HD version of pure TH1 for a little bit nostalgic gaming because I have played quite a few hundred hours of it ten years ago.
There was an attempt for an hack for TH1 ( Angel Hack ) which I had played. It had a few promising, interesting features, but sadly it was abandoned.
