I tend to prefer games which can support a lot of fun 8 vs 40 battles.

In this respect, I prefer Jagged Alliance 2's ability to pit a squad of 18 on 40. It might seem too easy, but if our mercs are low level scrubs or roster-deadweight, it can be very amusing, from my experience, just to see how far these "sacrifices" can get.

Silent Storm is probably the best I've played in terms of outgunned squads of 6 vs. 40 hostiles. It is much more commando-style.

Stealth squads in both of these games are cool, too. In terms of tactics, I don't see how anyone can put Wizardry 8 or Underrail above these two.

It really isn't, but the fact that Larian is making isometric turn-based games appealing to the masses (including many newcomers to this genre and people who formerly thought turn-based games were a thing from the past), while still making them fun for many of us is really commendable.

God bless them, and fuck those shortsighted folks who can't recognize obvious incline.

They declined when they went back and added full voice acting to D:OS, making that a standard feature of AA pseudo-isometric RPGs with Wasteland 2 and Deadfire following suit.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
The combat system is awesome, but the character system has many questionable elements.

If you used the same combat system in a game with more reasonable char development, it would truly be the best ever.
The conversation could've ended there tbh
