Anyone who buys this shit is a gonna be a serious fucking nerd. You don't need to worry about some guy that will wither and die if every default behavior he's become accustomed to is not present on install.

The default behaviors you stick in should be the way it's designed to be played. Put a note in the configuration menu or some shit saying, for real, this is the way we designed it things will get lame if you don't do it this way. If it's technically easy you can put in a save-and-reload mode with the disclaimer saying that it's all wrong, wrong, for whatever slice of customer is nerd enough to buy an indie Torque zombie game but insufficiently nerdy to listen to how a dev designed it to be played.

Edit - except there has to be save and quit, it's a fucking game not a puppy.

How does being infected make you an "uber-buff character"?

Training zombies with shock collars?

What game are we talking about here?

As far as I know, in this game when a character is bitten they get sick and die. Antibiotics can slow it down, but death is inevitable. There are no "zombie powers" aquired along the way. You de and then rise a mindless zombie soon afterwards. So any ideas revolving around zombie powerz and shock collars would be better suited for another game. Thank god.

Being infected should be a bummer. That's the whole point. Why the fuck do you need the game to make being infected "exciting" for you? It's a fucking zombie survival game - the whole idea is NOT to be infected. If you need cheap gimmicks to make getting infected fun then I think you are missing the whole point of the game.

Thanks for the imput. That sure showed Annie that nobody reads her posts - awesome breasts or not - and that tastes don't "differ" they suck if they're not yours. What would we have done without that information? Thanks again. Now lurk some more. More than ten posts a year from you could mess up your godlike reputation.

Windows OS is unstable and betting on the bugless RPG is a sure way to lose money.

First Fable is so fucking bugless (at least for them) they never released a patch (unless you count Lost Chapters). And Fable prints money.

I'm sorry I upset you bro, but I think his ideas are AWFUL for this specific game. I'm pretty sure he'll be OK with the fact that I don't like them, and if he wants maybe he will reply and thoroughly thrash me for not liking them. That's usually how it works around here.

So quit crying you whiny faggot.

Great Annie boob joke tho lololo

'Save Anywhere' - If I want to save the game let me do so.

Not that fucking difficult is it? If you want to be hardcore use the ironman mode.
Why don't you play POPAMOLE since you're so softcore?

And yeah, we're both busy, this is true, but often the reason we don't post as much is that we don't want to intimidate people, making them feel like they're confronting us directly, or that we're gonna shit on their ideas as soon as we type them out. If they're way off base, we'll let them know, or if something is really rad, we'll call it out, but often we like to get people discussing stuff without them feeling like we're entirely guiding things.

That's unfortunate but understandable. I for one would rather people tell me if they think my ideas are terrible/do suck right away and shit on it.

What's this conformist bullshit? Don't be such a whiny faggot. Do you lecture people on how Beth's and Bio's design are merely "different" too, when people hop on a lollercoaster about them? People have different thresholds on what sucks but that doesn't mean nothing really sucks or makes what one thinks suck any less valid. And what's with the RPGWatch grade attitude? No level scaling in my Codex, please.

Seems some employees used the last one to wipe their asses with. I assure you they have been dealt with accordingly.

I can't say that I'm very well versed on the subject, but I can however say that the feature to save anywhere at any time, has made many modern games lose tension for me. Make of that what you will, but there's definitely an added layer of depth and tension because without a save function that's usable at all times, you have to plan out how to play the game several steps in advance.

While Azrael's suggestion was pretty cool I can see how it won't fit in a Romero-style zombieverse at all (as opposed to an O'Bannon style one).

I'm assuming the bites don't actually infect living characters with teh zombie disease by themselves, but infect them badly enough for them to die, which will cause them to be revived as zombies, since all corpses in Romero-style zombie worlds become zombies, if they're not completely decomposed.

IF that's true, though, does that mean that characters who are killed by other means also revive as zombies? Or is getting bitten the only way to die?

Oh you can die from PLENTY of ways. A looter can shotgun blast you right inna FACE, and that'll probably do it pretty good.

The difference we have with Romero's take is that not EVERY dead person becomes a zombie - only the infected ones (i.e. from a zombie bite). A Romero-ish version, then? Like Shaun of the Dead rules, then, I guess. The zombies are ZOMBIES, actual animated corpses, too, just FYI - none of the Zombieland-style "oh we call them zombies but they're not ACTUALLY dead" folderol.

I'm saying that just to be specific - one of the issues with using such a pop culture-y subject (rich with subtext though it may be) is that there are now MULTIPLE different takes on zombies that differ in subtle (or large) ways from one another, and when people hear the word it triggers an array of expectations. What we focus on might not be what people are expecting (especially those weaned on 28 Days Later more than the original Dawn of the Dead), and we've gotta sort of shrug at that and go "eh, we're going for a different mood, sorry."

I think it was Max Brooks who said something about fast zombies always being freaky and panicky and shocking, and the old school kind of zombies being about anxiety and tension and the like... something that's far more kin to the stress of long-term survival, I think. ANYHOW.

deniszi - I will do my best to shit on your posts right away then, so you're glad. I didn't know you were into that kind of thing.
KIDDING, kidding (also ew) - and understood. If we feel you're waaaaaaaaay off base on something we absolutely will step in and give correction, but I think as a conversation about design it's more beneficial to the process to give certain discussions room to play out without too much meddling. Doesn't mean we're not watching it - just means we don't want to barge in all HEY YOU GUYYYYYYYS without something pertinent to say.

Doesn't making it so you have to be infected instead of full Romero rules make it all vaguely sciency, even the Latinate "infected", and therefore you can't ever really accept that these are dead bodies and not that this is a sci-fi disease? I think harnessing all the taboos about dead bodies and all your memories of open casket funeral creepiness and so on is what makes slow zombies interesting, this is a dead body that is moving, how droll unnerving. Also my goodness you could push a small piece of metal into me percussively and I would become a dead body myself, I don't like to think about that very often! Let's get more immersed in this fantastic work!

When it turns sci-fi I think to myself, "Zombies are fucking stupid".

When it is like Lovecraft transrational type horror, like presumably but inscrutably natural (or is it???) I can sit and watch and care about the plot.

Will this have some overarching plotline in some way, or do you just try to stay alive as long as possible?
