BioWare employee Cori May said that Alistair was most comparable to "strawberries and cream, sweet and wholesome and delicious, and a little goofy."[2] While writer Sheryl Chee says "Alistair is an apricot. Cute, sweet and just a little fuzzy."[3]
# In writing Alistair, David Gaider was inspired by Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Malcom Reynolds from Firefly.[5]
# Alistair is David Gaider's favorite NPC. [6]

Excellent point. Still loling at that "kay, let's do a SEX ritual because that's what happens in DARK, GRITTY FANTASY" out of absolutely nowhere. And the ensuing sex scene is worthy of a Golden Raspberry.

The background story and the lack of buildup prior to your character joining the order really just kills the immersion for me. It just feels like a somewhat bad plot device.

I am playing as rogue, so my impressions of other classes may not be 100% accurate, though.
DA had a potential to surpass BG2 with it's more advanced combat system but failed because of following factors:
- Bad encounter design combined with level scaling. Constant cinematic teleports, enemies spawning behind your back, constant chaos on the battlefield, bandits with more hp than so-called best warriors of the nation, etc. i
- Weaker magic system. With very few interesting spells and, again, constant chaos on the battlefiled , playing as mage is just not as interesting as in Bg2.
- Playing as warrior seems vey dull. Yes, they added tons of skills, but they made warrior a tank in MMORPG classification, meaning that his purpose is to hold the enemy until mage or rogue can kill him, not kicking ass himself. I don't even have time to bother with his abilities, because i am occupied with controling mage and rogue. In the end, being a warrior in BG2, where he was just swinging a sword felt more rewarding, than in DA, where he has tons of various skills.
Because of clear tank/dps/melee dps distribution of roles between classes from MMO's?Lockkaliber said:The combat feels very MMO-like overall, for some reason. I can't really put my finger on what it is though.

Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Well, i don't think this is a good thing. In MMO each character is controlled by separate player, in DA they tried to implement a multiplayer system in a single-player game. BG2 had a sytem designed for single-player from the beginning.
BG2 > DA

BG2 > DA
AD&D2 is not single player you dumbfuck.
I don't like the MMO inclination of the DA combat system much but arguing that BG2 had a ruleset more designed for single player is totally retarded.
Who the fuck ever played AD&D2 alone ?
