This was a great game
Fixed that one for you.

Played it a lot years ago before the deranged devs started to ruin it by removing everything for no reason at all. Gods, races, classes, items, just remove everything because you are retarded and obssessed with minimalism, what can go wrong? Won't even mention removing entire systems that worked perfectly well and added a lot to the game, like the hunger system. I remember even before removing that entirely they removed mutagenic chunks, and gobbling on them was an essential part of playing as a Demonspawn Chaos Knight of Xom.

Anyway, is there any consensus which legacy version is the best and has the most content, from before the devs went insane? Or are there any good forks that add stuff instead of removing stuff?

I love this game, coglin with dual wielding weapons is pretty fun. still cant live long with a magic user though.
If you are good at the early game, try coglin with Kiku. After getting mindelay of long swords, learn Animate Dead and Death Channel. You can even get slime as the first rune.
