It must be so bad, that they're giving it away. GameShark.com is offering a free giveaway of Dungeon Lords, but it begs the question: would anyone even purchase it? The giveaway includes a personally signed copy of the title by D.W. Bradley, and a poster of the game.

DreamCatcher Games and GameShark have teamed up to give one grand prize winner a copy of Dungeon Lords and a game poster signed by developer D.W. Bradley. D.W. Bradley, best known for Wizards & Warriors and three of the legendary Wizardry RPG titles, is the creative force behind this promising action RPG, along with his development team at Heuristic Park. A second place winner will receive a retail copy of the game and a poster.

How To Enter: Beginning today (April 29th) contestants need only send their name, age and location (City, State) to giveaways@gameshark.com with the subject line "Dungeon Lords Giveaway". We'll accept entries for this contest until May 5th, 2005 at 11:59 PM PST. We'll announce two winners on May 6th.

The contest is for Americans only, because we don't want to spend any more money than we have to.

Well, at least the poster's nice.

I'm gonna get reamed in the but for this...

But I am gonna buy it.. I mean, hell .. finally a game where I have to fight and not just click on the creature and watch the fight take place..

Sign me up..

Look, games are stale lately for us RPGers.. , But to bag on this game hard is really not gonna help...

Ya its gonna sell like crap, and we'll likely never see an RPG by Bradley or HP again..

Is that a good thing? I dunno about you guys, but if the future of RPG's is Jade Empire, then I guess I am getting back into simulations again..

Give the game a chance.. If it's bad, it's bad... But damnit, It's got the look I like.. I am really pulling for this one..

Yeah, if there's one thing the gaming industry is lacking, it's games where the player uses their agility to make the character kiill things. I think you're looking for StreetFighterCodex.com

Wait...I thought... now you're an RPGer? Fuck Ex, you are the flip-flop king.

Ya its gonna sell like crap, and we'll likely never see an RPG by Bradley or HP again..

Probably true. I said the same thing with Wizards & Warriors, and thats working well for me.

Is that a good thing? I dunno about you guys, but if the future of RPG's is Jade Empire, then I guess I am getting back into simulations again..

How do you draw the line between Dungeon Lords and Jade Empire? If I have to chose for the future of RPGs, I'll pick Jade Empire, b/c I don't have an X-Box so I don't have to worry about buying it in a moment of desparation. I can't stand buggy games, so I think I'm safe from Dungeon Lords as well.

Dont' worry Eron me and Deathboy (by the sounds of it) are gonna get it as well.
We're all nuts! NUTS I say!

And there are some other codexers as well...but hey, why should they ruin their game cred by being honest

So, Shagnak, are you getting the game because you're in the Shit Games Liberation Front or because you think the game actually'll be any good?

Well, I would be more inclined to agree with you if the combat in Dungeon Lords wasn't so unruly. Like I said in the thread about the demo, it just feels like Bloodlines' combat done wrong.

Getting this one for free is the ONLY way it would ever come into my possession. Unfortunately this is going to be a big turkey. Too bad, as I would like a nice new RPG to play.

You can definately have Jade Empire.. You fight, stop for dialog, fight some more (mash the A button) stop for more dialog.. Then oh wait, oh ya, you then choose good or evil, fight some more.. fun.. NOT

Did I mention all the dialog with uninteresting computer generated characters?

I never meant to compare the two.. But RPG's are starting to suck big time..

I personally think dungeon lords is gonna be better than what you nay sayers are making it out to be..

Unless of course you hate action RPGs, in which case your screwed from the get go..

Ah well, long live simulations.. Back to Silent Hunter 3...

I want an RPG to tax my brain not my reflexes. That said, if an action RPG sets the reflex bar low enough and has a good story/development/whatever I'll give it a go. I just can't fathom how anyone could remain optimistic about DL not being a buggy mess. If this turns out to not be the case, I'll probably pick it up, but all (and I mean ALL) indicators point to this being a rushed mess of bugs, last-minute cuts, incomplete features, unbalance and rough edges, at best a frustrating scratched window into what may have been.

Do you think it is ready to be released? Do bugs not bother you? Are you just to desparate for any RPG to care? I could understand someone just walking up to the shelf and saying "This looks good", but assuming you've seen the demo and read previews, interviews, and comments etc, this games just screams "wait for reviews".

Hehe.
The SGLF* thingy exists due to Fez pointing out that my taste in games sux. But in saying that, there have been a large number of people recently who also apparently like some "non -codex-approved" games.
I keep the sig there, cos a bit of self-deprecation can be good in keeping things in perspective. I suspect that my gaming background was a little different from the norm

As for DL, I think I'll actually enjoy it.
Like obediah, I have some worries that it will be full of bugs. But I think the demo, despite being a pretty bad show-case, only had pretty minor issues (i.e. each one easily fixable, and in the main not making it unplayable); its just that there are a huge number of them. I don't see how they could have possibly fixed them all without taking at least another few months.

And the RT combat, not as easily fixable, wasn't all that great, agreed. But by the end of the demo I was getting used to it (shield parries seemed to work as desired). More visual/audio cues need to be added to make it more obvious when you are hitting and being hit.

So over all, do I think its going to be a "good" game? Probably not. Its not going to be an uber-RPG, and its not going to be a great hack-em-up like Severance:BOD. Its going to be some quirky mix in between that will only please those (like myself) who for some insane reason look beyond clinical excellence. Im one of the idiots that liked W&W, remember?

Do I think its going to be a game I (and some LAN-mates) can enjoy? Yep. Damn straight. I'm gonna take a punt. Im looking forward to it more than DS2, that has every chance of being clinically excellent but otherwise devoid of personality. (In saying that, it might be worth a LAN or two like the first one was. LANification can often improve a game considerably).

*I guess you would pronounce that "sigiliff". Damn, I need a snappier acronym

Fantastic post..

I just simply feel it has character.. And I also have been trapped into wanting and desireing clinical excellence, but more and more I am let down..

I hope there is some decent after sale patch support for this title, but if no one buys it, there likely won't be much..

I just think your going to see less and less games made with character.. excuse the pun..

It's a budget title. or at least cheaper than normal.. So.. what da heck.. It's not like I wont be able to afford my kraft dinner for the month..

SO, that being said.. If it remotely interests you at all.. Buy the damn thing.. Unless of course , u'll go without KD..

Bugs will be the issue. If it’s buggy as shit, then I’ll stay away. If not, I’ll buy it. I didn’t mind the demo, it had issues but I could see some potential.
