I am not used to Obsidian games having only "a bit of lore" so I doubt it that they will screw that up. Also, I have nothing against H&S games, I love every possible genre/typeOfCombat/gameplay out there. :P

But then again, the original developer is "supervising" the development and that could mean another generic setting and characters. Unless of course someone at Obsidian hit him with a rolled up newspaper everytime he tries to dribble his experience over Obsidian's and said "NO!".

At most his input are suggestions. Also the orig. Developer is actually a very nice guy (attested by nearly everyone who meets him in person) and isn't really prone to cockblocking someone.

Of course he is. He is frakking Chris "Total Annihilation" Taylor. I will respect the guy forever for giving me that game.

I am not talking about his personality. I am not a fan of his work (not just DS series) and that's why I am worried about his involvement in Obsidian's work. But then again, Obsidian managed to do F3: Vegas under Betheseda so it can't be that bad.

What? He made Total Annihilation? AND Space Siege?

I'm pretty sure he didn't really design much on Space Siege.

Yeah, Lead Designers are different. He's only in as CEO.

During that time he worked on the Supreme Commander titles.

I don't know if he designed Space Siege, but he is the head of the company.

Who gives a fuck, it's just Dungeon Siege. But hopefully Obsidian will learn a thing or two about project management and bug elimination from it. For their next game worth playing.

I wonder if they'll release another patch for NV.

Why? Are there still problems that are not fixable -and already fixed- with mods? Just curious.

I'm actually enjoying FNV, btw. Tell me Codex, am I in decline?

I did enjoy F:NV very much but even after the last patch I had to play in the faux-full screen mode with AA and AF turned off and with no radio. Then the game was rock solid. Turn any of these options on, BAM, after a minute outdoors the game crashes. No mods fixed this.

I don't think that the crashes are strictly related to those options. I play with AF and radio on, and only had crash twice. And I've already played a lot with the game.

A Feb 7 post on the Beth forums said a new NV patch is supposed to come out. It'll "optimize the game for DLC and cover some issues reported in our forums – including performance and stability."

On my rig they certainly are; I've established this with meticulous trial and error, starting with all options turned off and turning them on one-by-one and playing for some time.

What's interesting, the newer patches for Fallout 3 introduced similar crashes on my machine. Could it be something engine-related as opposed to Obsidian-related?

@roguey: thanks.

Interesting. I've had so few crashes. Then again, frequency crashes vary wildly between different configurations. I played and finished vanilla FO3 without any problems at release while people were having shit storms of crashes.

Anyway, maybe some of the crashes are related to quest flags and the like? Because I use a shit load of mods (just checked now again: 70 of them + other mods) that fix various things. Would you like a fixes-only list of mods to try?

Maybe the problem is with your system. Time for a format and clean Windows installation me thinks.

Vegas didn't crash for me unlike Fallout 3 (occasionally) but somehow Obsidian's programmers managed to introduced the same bug in two different engines. I guess that takes skill. :P

Nope. The crashes start as soon as I leave Doc Mitchell's house and only happen outdoors. They vanish immediately once I turn AA and AF off (and don't use the radio).

I don't use any mods. Still, if you have a fixes-only list, I'd gladly try it on my next playthrough!

I've spent much time dealing with this issue and the general consensus across various boards is that many people with GT series cards experience exactly the same problems as me, and fix them in exactly the same way.

Also, recently some people wrote the last patch broke support for XP systems with the /3GB switch. I deleted the switch, will do more testing later on but 3 crash-free minutes with AA turned on is a new one for me.

Game stutters pretty constantly for me, there's currently a thread on steam with a guy having the same problem, as in stuttering no matter the graphical settings.
I'm pretty sure it's a bug, since it loads very fast , and it pretty much plays perfectly, except for a constant sound stuttering, and then the graphics start to glitch a bit too. I've even tried the fix posted on the above mentioned thread, doesnt seem to work, it even worsens things.

They are currently looking at it for a patch according to a post. And yes, it just seems to be a bug as in other cases it runs completly smooth.

Good to know. I really liked those drawn-out cutscenes, they gave me a certain IWD vibe. I'll start playing this once the hotfix comes out.
