Knights of the Nine is the first official expansion pack for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's about some Crusader faction - can you feel the awesomeness yet? - and the Windows version includes all of the previously released downloadable content, such as the epic and revolutionary Horse Armor mod, which is not totally overpriced!

This horse has already been mutilated beyond recognition, but I'll state my views again, just for the record.

Knights of the Nine seems entirely like an attempt by Bethesda to milk their customers for every penny that they can get. The content offered in the DLCs, along with that of KotN itself, is not significant enough to merit this psuedo expansion release that Bethesda gave it. All of the content should have been released for free -- much of it could be made by an amateur modder in less than an hour. And as far as the more meaty bits, it's not an uncommon practice for companies to release new content for free to owners of the game. A perfect example of this is the updates that Egosoft has put out for X3: Reunion. The amount of content offerent in those updates is much more than the amount of content that KotN and the DLCs added to Oblivion. Another example is the updates that Blizzard has released over time for its games.

But then again, maybe KotN shouldn't have even been released as a free download. The quality of it, and the other DLCs, is exceptionally low. They almost seem like modding projects by first time modders. They are largely quite short, and treat the player like an idiot -- quest pop-ups are so frequent that there is no thought required whatsoever to complete the questlines. They also lack multiple solutions. What Bethesda should have done with the plugins is to actually add gameplay elements. For example, adding new skills, altering the character system, etc. Things that modders simply can't do.
