Glad to see PB giving a middlefinger to multiplayer. Fuck multiplayer and fuck other people.
imagine the bugs.

The cyka blyats have made a multiplayer mod for Gothic 2. I've been tempted to mess with it, but I think it's almost more of a persistent server type thing than actual co-op.

Also, I don't speak abibas.

I started playing this yesterday.

Looks and feels like Risen with added lasers

You get the jetpack right away, so good.

Protag is the same from risen, Jason Statham, only with some added scars since he's been through a lot.

Hand crafted permanent world

I was almost insta-killed by the first creature I tried to fight alone after the tutorial. 1HP left and I was running away like a bitch

Finally, after 60 hours (plus reloading, LOTS of reloading), I too managed to finish Elex.

I had most fun doing quests for the factions in Chapter 1, before even joining anyone (took me 3/4 of the whole playing time). The main story, when I finally picked it up, was uneven, but the final twist interesting. Too bad some of the ending slides were reused loading screens from the game.

My Jax finished his journey as a level 47 Berserker, a spontaneous fellow. He romanced Caja (that was awkward, although their love scene was somewhat reminescent of Geralt and Triss scene in the lighthouse near Novigrad) and got the "emotional" ending.

A great game, alas with many flaws. A true rough gem, but also a proof that RPGs are not a compromised genre yet and still good titles may appear. Vast, handcrafted world was great, the factions interesting, their interactions complex. Although not deep enough - I managed to keep good relations with everyone and when the time came to choose sides, the Berserkers, Clerics and Outlaws all wanted me as their member. This should definately not be possible. I liked the difficult combat, although it became pretty trivial after level 25. The feeling of the growth of power was outstanding.

Elex inspired me to play other titles by Piranha Games. Until Elex I have only completed Gothic 1. So now Gothic 2, 3 (with community patch) and Risen 1 awaits. I hope it will be as enjoyable as this one.

you have the envy of the whole subforum - some people would do the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, just to experience g2 for the first time again

since you already played elex (with the toughest beginning of the bunch), i would suggest to start gothic 2 with the expansion already installed - it is a lot harder than without it, but much more enjoyable

and don't play any other ones than those you mentioned (good choice)

Lucky me!

That is exactly my intention - in a few days I will be starting Gothic 2 + Night of the Raven. I hope it will prove to be as enjoyable ride as Elex was. Or, like most people here claim, even better.

And when I finish it there will be difficult decisions to be made - to Gothic 3 or not to Gothic 3. Some say the community patch fixes a lot, some say it's still shit. Unfortunately, they may both be right!

Ok, I understand the warnings about G3, but I thought Risen 1 was well liked around these parts?

i sad "than", not "of" - maybe you misunderstood me? (meant g3 "exp", "g4" + exp, r2 and r3)

g3 is like elex (nothing a patch can fix, only a full blown expansion in the vein of notr that adds "missing" content), too big with too little density (others are just right) - and r1 has a great first two thirds and a weak (more than others) last third

g1/g2 still the best

If you recognised the gem within the flaws in Elex, you will be able to do the same with G1, G2 and R1 at least - and probably also understand why those titles are superior to Elex as well. You're in for a good time.

A lot of key staff has left Piranha Bytes after Risen. I thought "hey, maybe it's not that bad, maybe this bald dude Bjorn have a plan".
Then Risen 2 happened. And then Risen 3. I thought that Piranha Bytes is beyond salvation.

And then these magnificent bastards made Elex, which is now takes third place in my hit parade of PB games (after G2-NotR and G1).

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire
Definitely play those you mentioned, Lord_Potato !
I differ from the Codex general consensus™ in finding Risen 3 an atmospherically good game too. If you can bear weak mechanics and a shit ending, but enjoy good exploration and atmosphere, try Risen 3 as well.
On Risen 2 however, the Codex general consensus™ is right: Avoid at all costs!
