Just finished this. It's the first soulslike that I played through, so I can't really compare to other soulslikes. Compared to other 3rd person action adventures though I think it's decent enough. Combat is solid enough, and I feel like they did exploration really well. The aesthetic looks good and while there's still some jank, the animations are pretty well done. Environmental SFX is a bit lacking, as is the creature audio, but the music is okay.
As for negatives, the enemy variety is lacking. Many sub(?)-bosses appear again as regular enemies, or vice versa. Some mechanics like the mask system, skill system and passive tree seriously need adjustment - majority of them aren't worth using. This is also true for weapons, the devs seem to be too wary of the concept of strict upgrades that they overtuned items to be not too far from each other balance-wise. Lastly being unable to remap keys might be a deal-breaker to some and it is still a bit buggy.
Writing is I guess a matter of taste. Some might like the theater(?)-like dialogue, and it is thematic but it all sounded like pretentious rambling to me. Thankfully it doesn't really matter much in this genre. Overall if I had to score it I'd give it a 6.5. The combat is decent and the exploration is really well done, but the game does have significant flaws. Still, I enjoyed my time with it although I think $50 is high for what it offers.
