GameCloud has an an interview with Dene Carter about Fable: the Lost Chapters. Here's the first question from the thing:

Gamecloud - First, was Lionhead pleased with the reactions that Fable received when it was released for the Xbox in 2004?

Dene Carter - We were really happy. The response from the public was very positive, and the major criticisms were all in the form of "We wanted more!" I don’t think any developer can complain too much about that sort of reaction!

Well, that's certainly one way to spin it.

Why does everyone here hate Fable so much? I played a little on a friend's Xbox and it seemed pretty fun.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about Fable today, he said it was pretty cool...

I was in GameFAQs when the game was release and so "The response from the public was very positive" is a lie, then again they lied about game features so its nothing new.

That IS the problem people have with Fable, they downright lied about the game.

Because it sucks. It was/is hyped as the biggest, bestest, most immerisive roleplaying experience EVAR! And when it was released, well, it was a mediocre Zelda clone with a more linear plot and world than Half-Life.

What I still don't get is, it's as though all covereage of Fable: The Lost Chapters is ignoring all the past hype and the fact that it sucks. WE WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN! LOL

Well they are trying to sell it again saying "all the things we cut from Fable are in here", problem a hell lot was cut before even being made so this PC version is simply Xbox Fable if they actually finished what they were implementing + some modding crap.

Fable is a fucking piece of shit game. I played it and beat it once. Then I tried to play again a week ago and I just couldn't fucking do it.

It was also right after I beat PS:T again, so that may have affected my feelings toward it.

It was just pure fucking console hack and slash shit. Horrible story. Horrible characters. Horrible dialogue. Fucking horrible game.

First time I played it I gave slightly positive feedback, but now that I played it again, it's utter shit.

Pretty fun for 12 hours is not what they promised. They promised roleplaying, consequences, a giant world with free roaming and no load screens. They shouted every idea about what might be nice to have to every gaming mag and website and then as reality set in and they had to cut and cut features they went all Quaker's meeting on the consumer.

I was expecting Fable to take everything Morrowind did well and improve on it, instead it took everything that Kotor did and just put it in the medieval world with some scripted NPC reactions and called it revolutionary.

That's what I mean by spinning it. Saying people wanted more is just their way of saying people wanted what they promised and didn't follow through on.

So I rented Fable yesterday... am enjoying it quite a lot.

Enjoying it quite a lot? Well, all right, but is it a totally orgasmic revolutionary RPG experience that completely redefines every concept of the genre and blows every game before it away in terms of depth and responsiveness?

Or is it just a run of the mill action RPG where you can grow little horns that's fun for about ten hours?

You going to get the "30% more" PC version?

Probably not, but I might consider it if I had extra money laying around. I mean, I'd buy the PC version to play through with a new character rather than buying the x-box version or renting it again.

However, I just bought the x-box so that's all the money I get to spend for pretty much the rest of the year. :(
