max, that's not going to happen. Bethesda brought it's own fanbase. FO3 will make Bethesda a profit either way and that's what counts. so then you'll have an even more raped FO4 etc.

Heaven forbid... Only a miracle can save the franchise now.

And of course, the fanbase of FO3 will be pissed on when making FO4, so they will... join... the Codex.
Oh, fuck. :shudders, if shuddering means shaking because of fear:

That's honestly how it happened. It was just us sitting around talking about doing something else besides the Elder Scrolls, something RPG-ish, and wondering, what could we do?
And their first thought was to use someone else's idea?
but they still cared about their hairstyles
What does that mean?

Why not? It's easier than coming up with something yourself. It's called "replicating success" and too many people, especially in the "entertainment industry" do it (and do a poor job at it of course).

Paying millions for it == cheaper than stealing it and get sued.

You think they wouldn't have stolen it if they thought they'd get away with it?

I hate those interplay fuckers. Fallout was perfect back in 94, and then they had to go make it exist. It was fine without existing, why did they have to change something that worked?

Assholes.

We'll let those games sit in everyone's memory, benefit from that nostalgia, and stand on their own; I don't think they need to be redone, they're great games on their own.

What a dick.

fuck it, this interview is great news. For some reason, for some time now I've been imagining the scenario of Beth looking at F3's success (it will have it. Stop kidding yourselves) and deciding to rape Ultima next. Knowing they have no intention of releasing any fantasy games that aren't Elder Scrolls takes care of that.

"For us, Ultima is all about killing dragons with glass swords".

It'd better be Arcanum. Just imagine first-person shooter where you can burn elves with flame-thrower or hurl lightnings in mechanical arachnids.

"For us, Arcanum is all about killing mages with guns with mega levels of violence."

Well, Troika was ready to rape Arcanum themselves but Sierra did not allow another Arcanum game. They wanted to make Arcanum 2: Extreme using the HL 2 engine. That would not be Arcanum.

As if it's possible to top the "Ultima" IX. :P

I forgive Ultima IX because it came with the most beautiful rendition of "Stones" I ever heard.

Those people at Troika were talented enough not to ruin what is good about roleplaying games.

That could have been Arcanum: Bloodlines. But ended up like this.

Pete, sometimes I think you missed your true calling... as a stand-up comic. I was eating yogurt too, what a damned mess!

...but there is a segment of our fanbase - I say 'our', I mean the Fallout fanbase - that has basically decided back in 1994 that we're doing it all wrong and that they're going to hate our game whatever we do.
What? That's stupid. Really, really stupid. Oh, and dishonest too. (EDIT: I'm ignoring the silly year here.)

You know very well what that 'segment' wants and you know you've not even thought about delivering any of it, so how's it become anti-beth prejudice? Do they like the 'wrong' things? How very dare they!

This looks like the perfect opportunity to sneak in some advertisement for Ultima: Redemption, a total remake of Ultima 9 with the ambitious goal to provide a more meaningful and satisfying ending to the series. It uses the Morrowind engine but I think Lazarus proved already that you can make a great game despite using a shitty engine.

Deus Ex 2's bad reputation has more to do with being a Something Awful memewagon.

What?

It's a not-bad game that got anti-hyped up into being a legendary piece of shit on mainstream gamerd00d places like Penny Arcade and SA. See also: Daikatana. They didn't lol nerdrage the anti-hype because they were in a memecano or some other neologism.
