The whole system is bad. The game journalists are bad, because their work has little value and they must support Triple-A games for revenue. The triple-A (or double-A?) games are bad, because they are designed for the lowest common denominator.
Yeah, but AAA game costs are have spiraled out of control. Mass Effect andromeda cost USD 55 mm, COD: Infinite warfare USD 60 mm costs. Basically you have to have everyone onboard including housewives and senile people for it to even have a chance to payoff. At this point the number of AAA games will like diminish, because two or 3 failures and you are out of business. To even have a chance to break even you have to throw everything including the kitchen sink, because to hit break even you have to sell 1.6 mm copies (at full price). A 30% discount means that you need to sell USD 2.2 mm (20% USD 2 mm) to thit break even. It's a big boy business now.
