I liked Grimrock until the combat (and I use the term loosly) begun to sicken me. This kind of game is not suited to real time...

Is there any statment from them if there will be round based combat or, if not, why not?

Should MMX be real time then? I would like them to make the RT combat better. We have enough TB games coming out (wow, that's one sentence I would not have found myself typing last year).

They would be crazy to suddenly do this turn-based. The game is basically built as a Dungeon Master clone, and that is what this series is now known for.

But some better combat mechanics could make this definitely better.

Exactly. People need to stop asking 'ermagerd will it be teeern bazed dis time?!?!' No. That's not the genre.

The combat should just go full-on FPS action when you spot an enemy, no more Dancing with the Stars. Ditch all classes except archers and casters. Slap in some random military mumbo jumbo and online multiplayer. Skyway will go fucking nuts.

Saying that one would prefer (good) TB combat in a Grimrock/DM-like game is a perfectly valid opinion. Just as valid as Barely Human wanting to make a real time game... Stating that I would prefer it to have (good) TB combat is not the same as expecting them to implement it or as thinking that it'd be a better business decision...

No, but it is akin to coming to the MMX board and saying you would prefer it to be real time. Yes, it is a valid opinion but completely changes the series focus. We hated it when other people were doing it to Fallout, so I don't see what makes it better when we try to do it to different franchises. Grimrock's not a game that used to be TB or a sequel to a TB game. It started development as a DM remake and than gradually over the years changed into what it is now, so asking the devs over and over to change a core gameplay element is stupid. It is a different genre, whether you like it or not.

That said, the over reliance on movement during combat is irritating and needs fixing. In DM most movement was used to get in position where you could not be flanked or when fighting the dragon.

Fuck your outdoor areas in what was supposed to be a sequel to pure dungeon crawler.
Go play your fucking Rimjob or whatever and watch your flowers and shit ad nauseum.
Just fix the goddamn combat and make spells non-shit.
That is all I got to say to this subject. <eof>

Open areas are fine for the combat, they just need a good amount of enemies in them that if you try to mambo one enemy you'll just be constantly taking fire from the rest. I remember in CSB some bigger rooms, where there'd be some fireball-shooters or constantly spawning poisoner bugs, if there's enough company that moves/shoots fast you'll be wishing for a corridor pretty soon, or retreating into one to prepare your spells again.
