Is there a mod that lets one play FNV without a quest compass but with enough detail in quest descriptions to complete quests? I’m sure it is possible, but I am curious about what is *reasonable*. The game was clearly not written for navigation without a QC, I’m just hoping the autists have worked out how to play without it.

Stewie's Tweaks has an option called Distance Based Quest Marker Visibility, which hides the marker (both on the compass and on the map menu) if you're too far away from it, and the distance is configurable. You could conceivably put the distance to 0 or nearly 0, but you could also just turn the quest marker off in the vanilla game options. I think having it on but with a low max distance is fair.

This mod claims to improve the quest objectives for people who play without the quest marker. I haven't used it.

I would've loved to try NV without compass if only i didn't already remember every pixel in it.
