Never tried the voulge (Or most weapons for that matter) myself. Don't they weigh a ton though? That slows you down in M&B. Though I rarely leave my horse, to be honest.

Does it have a blind range, where enemies that are too close can't be attacked?

Glaives, bardiches, and spears are all excellent weapons in M&B: Warband. Spears are admittedly a bit trickier to use than the other two(gotta knock people down with a swipe, THEN stab, which does plenty of damage so I dunno what you are crying about), but are also pretty damned excellent dueling weapons in multiplayer.

Of course, part of the main issue with M&B is that all of the weapons are too similar in infantry combat.
