Here's something that will feel right at home with a lot of users at the Codex, an actual, honest to god cynical preview of Dungeon Siege II, a divergence from the usual flattery contained in most of the previews we've seen to date, but his standpoints are however... flawed. A snippet:

When it comes to actually attacking the enemy, I had a bit of a spat with the game. In order to keep attacking a monster, you must click and HOLD the right mouse button. Why? How come I can’t just click that I want to attack the monster and have my character keep attacking until its dead? With as many monsters as DSII has you fighting (a lot of times I pulled like 12 monsters and couldn’t help it), you too will most likely begin to hate this little requirement. Since I’ve become so used to playing other RPG games where your character doesn’t stop attacking until you tell her to, or the monster is dead (such as KotOR and WoW), it was a real pain in the ass to have to say, “Oh yeah, I’ve got to hold it down – that’s why I’m just standing there watching my group die.” Yes, I actually said that out loud… a lot.

Well, I can't say I agree with his assessment, because I don't. If anything, Dungeon Siege II benefits from that degree of interaction, which is a genuine step up from the screensaver of the original game, and is much closer to a Diablo-like experience than anything else. I actually like having to hold the button. It lends a degree of immersiveness that puts the player -in- the game, rather than relegating him to the role of a passive observer.

Let me put it this way: Blizzard could just as easily have automated the combat in Diablo and Diablo II, but they didn't. With good reason.

LOL - combat in DS1 was too simple, so let's torture the player and ensure carpal tunnel syndrome by forcing the poor user to hold a mouse button - that's true deep interactivity, yes indeed.

Wow. I'm stunned, that's the most stupid thing I've read here in a long time.

Stop commenting the news, Exitium.
A step up?!?! The only thing worse than not being able to control the character properly is to have to actually do something not to control it."Hey, look at my mad skillz of holding down the button". You're confusing having to do different tactical moves to win a battle with having to do pointless things just for the character to hack away at the enemy in a mindless fashion.

FINALLY PEOPLE AGREE WITH MY EXITIUM SUCKS AT NEWS

come on, you sound as bad as PR people.

BUTTON HOLDING = IMMERSION

its like you're IN THE GAME omg BUY THESE 3D GLASSES SHIT POPS OUT YOU'RE IN THE GAME VIRTUABOY!

trees = immersion
water = immersion

and now you can have the pen-ultimate immersive experience by holding a button.

Please stop asskissing/defending everything just because you like it, especially if it sucks.

Rex is just trying to make his news posts more interesting by adding an 'intellectual' spin. What do those inverted commas imply? MYSTARY.

I sort of agree with Exitium, in that the reviewer is an idiot. He actually wants the game to be a screensaver, that is he wants to click and forget. Of course, this new format might be as bad as the old, for different reasons. Namely, carpal tunnel.

Well, Diablo 2 did the click and hold thing, but Diablo also offered you multiple types of attacks as well. If DS2 is still offering the one type of attack with a click and hold, they're still getting it wrong. Of course, DS2 is supposed to have special attacks as well, but it remains to be seen how effective it is. If it's like Prince of Qin's combat, I'll be okay with it.

I believe Dungeon Siege II is supposed to offer multiple types of attacks, as with Diablo 2 or Prince of Qin (the previews haven't clarified), so it should work out alright, Saint. I managed to get myself into the beta, so I'll comment when I have a chance to play that.

Some of you need to cut down on the idiotic remarks. Go play a screensaver, then.

Are you F-ing me?

Play a screen saver? Are you serious? You're talking about video games. They aren't real. They are all screen savers. See that screen on the side of your house? It's called a window and the other side is called the REAL WORLD. Go play outside, tool...

Was there a point to your post?

I believe there's a distinct difference between watching a game play itself out (a screensaver) and interacting with a game (not a screensaver). How you manage to overlook this obvious fact is surely an indicator of your stupidity.

"OH NOES"? Nice one. I think that pretty much wraps up why you aren't trying to get laid.

Why don't you follow your own advice? Unless you're such a god as to be having sex while attempting to flame someone over the forums? Are you drinking a 40 as well?

The bars and clubs aren't packed with winners at noon. Man, I didn't know he'd send his boyfriend after me.

So you don't find it at all ironic that you're mocking someone for spending their time on the internet through the internet? That sounds like a waste of your life to me, at least if I look at it as you apparently do.

Oh, I definitely am wasting time. I have some time to kill before I head to practice. It's pretty funny. I don't get why people get so fired up. Go back to dungeons and dragons.
