VD: sorry if you've answered this, but will it be possible to have a female PC? Do you know yet?

While we're on that topic - any romances? Not everyone likes them, but I do.

Very reliable sources told me that female PCs are in. There are some situations where gender does matter. The poison kiss dealio is one of them. Femme fatale and all that stuff.

Yes, they are in! Here is a dialogue sample:

Male PC: *looks at a female NPC who looks very HAWT*
Male PC: *clears throat* Uh, do you want to fuck?
Female NPC: *overwhelmed by feelings* Like, totally!
Cutscene: HAWT PASSIONATE SEX scene.

Seriously though, I don't have any romances as they hardly fit the flow of the story. PC is on a mission from God (not really) like the Blues Brothers and he/she doesn't have time for long-term relationships. I can throw in some male/female slaves though.

Speaking of girl power...

I like the idea of a female gamer - when I say gamer, I mean serious stuff, not Solitaire or...Sims, for example. Too bad I've never really met one... :)
My girlfriend plays stuff on the computer, HOMM3 is probably her favourite game. But she doesn't exactly feel the game like I do.
I have another girl at school who's really smart and she also plays some PC games (like Diablo 2... ), but that's about it.
It would be interesting to meet a girl that has played a lot of games of different genres. I would also be interesting to find a girl that would kick my ass at UT2004 (but that's a little more difficult... )
So... I'm just curious... All the girls browsing this forum... What kind of games do you play?

They exist. My sister loves Dynasty Warriors, Katamari Damacy, Daiblo, Suikoden, Prince of Persia, lots of different kinds of games.

Just a guess, but I think age matters more among lady gamers.

Always what romance must come down to in the male mind. :)

Romance = good.
Sexual slavery = bad.
Housekeepers, tailors and so forth, on the other hand = great. :D

Like the Ctrl-Alt-Del comic says: Women gamers exist. You just have to go out once in a while to find them. I had a girlfriend who used to kick my ass in Unreal Tournament and my sister is a rabid Zelda-lunatic. It's probably why I got into more calm games.

About the romance thing in games. I usually like that kind of thing as long as it's good enough written and good enough designed to fit into the game, like KOTOR1&2 and unlike BG2.

Fits the setting though. Sleeping with the help was very common in the ancient Rome.

How about vomitoriums? Those rocked.

More on topic, will women pc's be happy little empowered Xenas that no one bats an eyelash at like in most games, or will they run into Arcanum-like troubles?

Depends on a character. "Growing up" in the gameworld plays an important role. You start as nobody. You may become somebody. Or you may not. People will treat you accordingly, reacting to your level of power and influence.

In regard to females specifically, it always depends on who you are and who you are talking to / dealing with. Some people won't "bat an eyelash", some people would prefer to deal with a woman, some people wouldn't show much respect to a woman. Obviously, there is a difference between a female street thief and a female praetorian who handles affairs of her Noble House.

Thanks. I knew that the graphics won't win any awards, so I focused only on gameplay. There are plenty of options, choices, consequences, interactions, short- and long-term effects and influences.

The graphics don't have to be super 3D and cutting edge to be nice, just well done for what you have to work with, and with a decent style. It seems to be going fine in that aspect so far, so it's not a worry.

I like the sound of the varying reactions to the differences in PCs.

This is untter nonsense. The best thing about fallout was becoming a pimp and/or being in porn. Girls, queers, and hippies might like that romance crap, but I've been married for over 2 years. Romance is fuckin rediculous. I don't even want to be nice to my wife, why the hell would I be nice to some whore made out of pixels? What I want to do is smack the shit out of bitches for not turning enough tricks. Then titty fuck them and cum up their nostrils. But thats a RL dream. I would rather have 10 more traits than any sexual talky talky in the game.

Im another one of those people that thinks romances are a bit silly, while if handled well they can be an interesting distraction, they are normally nothing more than a waste of time that could be better spent on implementing more variety in the world as a whole.

The only romances that i actually "Enjoyed" (and i use that term loosely.) are the ones in GTA:SA, if you reached 100% progress you got a new special outfit and a rare car. (Yep im a Man-whore. )

random relevant factoids:

Homosexuality, particularly between men and teenage boys (even Socrates was a pederast), was very common in the Ancient Greece but this was a little less the case in Ancient Rome. No one really cared whether or not women partook in lesbian activity either since that did not lead to the birth of children of whom no one could determine the father (which was the major issue with adulterous heterosexual relationships). For more on sexual relations in the Ancient World, I recommend a book I read a while back called "Courtesans and Fishcakes" since it both outlines gender stereotypes of the time (which Im sure many of us can guess at) and the reality (which was, of course, different).

Also, slavery was very different in Ancient Greece and Rome compared to the how African slavery was handled in the New World.

Still, I guess the title is inspired by the setting not representative of it (right?); so, whatever.

From my reading it was perfectly acceptable in Ancient Rome to engage in homosexual activities; as long as you were the "active" partner, so to speak. The "passive" one was ridiculed as being worse than a woman (who weren't particularly appreciated in Ancient Rome, either)
