I also registered on the forum that JP78 posted here. Seems there are also ppl who want to make english translation for that game and I hope they will succeed on their goal.

The translation is complete but with some errors. Posted in this thread.

As you are obviously skilled in searching for Russian-to-English translations, there is second obscure RPG I'm very curious about, Beltion: Beyond Ritual. It seems to have been released only in Ukraine and Russia around 2007-8. I've managed to locate a copy, but it's in Russian. If you ever find an English translation, it would be awesome :) the game looks like Russian Gothic with larger and more diverse world.

Haven't heard about that game, will try to check it later, thanks :)

Hello everyone, just discovered this thread by accident and was pleased to see that the RPG-community has taken notice of my little translation project for Goldenland.

Despite rumors to the contrary, the translation project is not yet complete.

I am the developer behind this english-language patch. A lot of the according work was done by translation engines (Google, Yandex). Due to the out-of-context situation, they naturally produced countless errors. Some of them have already been corrected manually. Unfortunately, there may still be quite a bunch of buggy dialogs.

The game would certainly need 3-4 more playthroughs to eliminate the worst blunders. This RPG (unfortunately) offers some options in the course of the game that unlock or block different quests. It is not possible to complete all quests in one playthrough. (e.g. some quests are only for bad boys, other quests are only for good guys; you can join different factions etc.).
So far, the biggest workload for this project was on my shoulders. Also, due to time constraints, I wasn't able to work on almost all game stations from Marvia onwards in such detail.

I would appreciate your participation in testing. A tester actually only has to complete the quests in different ways (especially those starting from Marvia onwards) and search for incomprehensible dialogs. Please collect these dialogs by doing screenshots, store them in a zip archive (~50 screenshots), upload them and email me the download link via PM. I would then take care with correcting stuff. Save-states made before hitting the corresponding incorrect dialog sections would also be a great time saver.

Oh btw, when the patch for "Goldenland" is finished, then another one is already queued. It's about "Goldenland - Cold Heaven" which has never been published outside of russia (afaik) and which is a very decent game.

All three parts of this GoldenLand franchise are now available on Steam. Unfortunately solely in the russian language versions.
Advantages of the offer: Games now only have Steam-DRM instead of Starforce-DRM and the stuff has obviously been tested on newer Windows versions and got adapted accordingly. The releases seemingly got updated to the latest patch level too. Checked this for 'GoldenLand2' and 'Cold Heaven' using the data presented on SteamDB.
If you have purchased one of the games on Steam, please contact me. I need some Steam metadata related to this. Perhaps you can help on that. Thank you.

btw, a volunteer tester has actually come forward in connection with the translation project. So we may be able to complete the translation stuff in the near future.

I can run chatgpt 4 through to do the translation, the one I did on sonora turned well I think baring some missing lines here and there...
Was able to do it in about 2 weeks.

I'd need someone to show me how to extract the stuff to translate, and put it back in though.

The dialogs are split into small text sections. The problems come from this "out-of-context" constellation.
The translation engines then cannot distinguish between proper names and nouns/adjectives because the context (the course of the conversation) is missing.
There are also problems in some places where a dialect gets simulated, i.e. various words are obviously intentionally misspelled. Only someone with excellent knowledge of Russian can adequately translate these passages.
Without manual correction I hardly see any options. The translation machines themselves actually did a good job.

You can try and post some excerpts here I can try out and see if the gpt 4 will make it easier for you to do the rest.
I would imagine having some sort of a start is better than none? Or does it work better if you do it from the get go?

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I'll come back to it when I get the chance. At the moment I would like to refrain from further testing one more translation engine. I've already done that with Yandex and Google versions. A third version just adds extra work.

In fact, I originally just wanted to point out the availability of a more manageable Steam program version above. The metadata of this Steam version would actually be really helpful. If anyone got the steam version and could help, please let me know.

But, if you want then you can test chatgpt4 on the russian manual (which has context and could be a good candidate for such a test). Here it is:
https://d1.myabandonware.com/f/qfd/Zlatogorye-2_Manual_Win_RU.pdf
I did the first 4 pages, here's what it gave:

Introduction

Just over three hundred years have passed since the time when countless hordes of the unclean, led by the dark deity Drach-Shu, were defeated, and the tortured land of Zlatogorie finally found the long-desired peace. The country of the Golden Mountains became more beautiful than before, fat herds grazed on green pastures, boundless wheat fields ripened, and people gradually began to forget the horrors of the past. The true Heroes, who overthrew the earthly embodiment of Drach-Shu, were canonized, their deeds deified, and the Cult of Heroes emerged, quickly capturing the minds and souls of people. The inhabitants of Zlatogorie turned away from their heavenly protectors, the Bright Gods, hoping, following the example of the Great Heroes, to rely only on themselves.

It seemed that nothing more would disturb the peace of Zlatogorie, and the cloudless years that passed since the fall of Drach-Shu made people think that such a life would last forever. Therefore, no one paid attention to the fact that the undead, crawling out of their holes, filled the valley, and hunger, diseases, and wars again began to reap their abundant harvest. Only the High Priest of the Cult of Heroes, Kotar, knew that three hundred years ago, this heralded the world about the imminent arrival of Drach-Shu, who instilled terror in the hearts of people.

One of the residents of a distant and unknown to anyone Alberia, named Alana, in her travels, went far north and stumbled upon a cave in which Chernobog was walled up, and, under his influence, broke the magical bonds that bound the body of the dark god. These bonds were imposed on the material essence of Chernobog by the Bright Gods, burying him under eternal ice. According to ancient legends, the bonds are held by seven Things, each of which previously belonged to one of the Gods. These are: the Axe of Belobog, the Mace of Perun, the Heavenly Fire of Svarog, the Golden Bow of Hors, the Magical Mirror of Lada, the Golden Sword of Yarilo, and the Ash Spear of Stribog. Six of the Things (Axe, Mace, Bow, Spear, Sword, and Mirror) are placed in the caves of the mountain under which Chernobog rests, forming a hexagram, in the center of which is the main artifact - the unextinguished Heavenly Fire of the great god Svarog, burning above Chernobog. Each item lies on its altar. If even one item is removed from the altar, the hexagram will be disrupted, and Chernobog's mind will reunite with his body.

Alana, obeying the dark will of Chernobog, wandered into the cave where the Magical Mirror of the goddess of love Lada was located. This mirror has an interesting property - if you look into it, you can't look away, because you see yourself there, but without inherent flaws, you see your better half. Enchanted by her beauty, Alana took the mirror from the pedestal. The magical bonds collapsed, Chernobog's mind united with his body. Chernobog easily subdued the local northern tribe, changed their physiology, and made them ideal warriors for his purposes. With their help, he wants to conquer the whole world, which would mean the destruction of the Bright Gods and the transformation of all people into zombie slaves of Chernobog.

Kotar knew that only one person could help in this situation - the great wizard and sorcerer of antiquity, Shurba-Hal. Then he gathered the Great Council, which, together with the six Great Priests, chose three apprentices, capable, in the opinion of the Council, of changing the situation for the better. They became Siger, Gertranger, and Molchun. Each of these apprentices excelled in one of the arts: Siger was the best warrior of the Temple, Gertranger - a mighty sorcerer, and Molchun - an experienced tracker. The next day, these heroes set out to search for Shurba-Hal - so decided Kotar, the greatest of the Great Priests, and the Council obeyed his will.

Kotar just did not mention that the previous night he had a vision sent by the Bright Gods, in which they ordered him to send a fourth student to search for Shurba-Hal, and to give him an item previously belonging to the True Heroes. Kotar was surprised, but he could not disobey the will of the Bright Gods. And so an unknown student sets out on a journey, which will be very difficult for him...

These results are quite good. Is that the plain result you did get from that engine (i.e. w/o doing edits)? I had to do a lot of manual editing to get sthg like this.

The current state of the entire translation (the according pdf has been linked some messages above by a member) of the Russian manual is in a fairly rudimentary state as I'm not a native English speaker.
If you have the time and nerve, you are welcome to revise the manual. The pdf was created with Scribus (free software).

Yeah it was straight from it.
I can go ahead and do it, but I can't really copy/paste the images and other stuff.
Is there maybe a word document, or do you just want me to dump everything in a .txt file and that's it?

The context size of the new gpt4 has been upgraded quite high now, so I could just give it the entire document no problem without it forgetting the context/references from the beginning pages.
