Fan Patch 1.9 is the latest fan patch.

If you want to read all about the Bloodlines patches, follow the Codex stories. Just scroll down and you'll come across each successive patch and a link to the comments thread if you want to see what we thought of them.

Whether it was melee or firearms, I just wanted those bits over with.
Even comparing to KOTOR 2, Bloodlines is a far superior game.

Does that say much, though?

the bug in the tutorial is not a big deal. I also never patched it and once I upped to 2 gig of ram it ran fine and I noticed no bugs. It was just a stupid idea to put out an rpg with a super high-end engine requiring people to upgrade their machines just to play. You might get away with that with halflife, but not with a game from a small company in a market where people don't upgrade their grapichs cards every 3 weeks.

Yeah, the production values are good, but the combat was mostly boring, and it just gets so super marioesque outside of santa monica it just lost my interest. Who could possibly enjoy all that nonsense in the sewers?

The previous Vampire game was more like Dungeon Siege, though not nearly as automated. It's almost entirely linear, and not nearly as interesting as Bloodlines. Still, it looks really nice, and if you really need a blood fix, then it might be worth a play. There are certainly worse games, but there's plenty of better ones too.

I enjoyed it much more. It has a full party and you can potentially use pretty much any of the blood disciplines or whatever they are.

Bloodlines is also pretty linear. You get to choose which of a few quests to do at a time, but you can't do anything such as go to LA right off the bat or anything like that.

Cheers for the responses, downloading the 1.9 patch and I'm gonna start again as a toreador. Can't find anything in the .cfg file to stop the jumping into third PP, but it's not a showstopping issue.

I've also seen a mod that recreates the PnP clans and their powers for the game, but so far haven't been able to DL it, and a few skins.

Thank God I've got a decent game to play over Xmas.

Obviously, likeness of Bloodlines depends entirely on how you value different aspects of gaming. Like, if you're into unique interesting characters and good dialogue, you're more likely to overlook the repetitive and sometimes awful combat, as well as the bugginess and the linearity of it all. That's probably why it was so high on the Codex top 10, since many people here put a lot of value in those things.

Similarly, if you get off on lightsabres, then you're likely to easily look past KoTOR 2's shortcomings and think it's the greatest game ever, just because it's Star Wars and so must be inherently awesome.

Great site, cheers. In the main I agree with your sentiments, bloodlines works for me because of the story (but damn they're tight with their XP's), but I also like it because you've got to get out of the mindset that guns are always better than melee weapons - I'd tried shooting this Sabbat three or four times before giving up and wailing on his ass with the tyre iron.

Yeah the fighting is clunky (it could do with locking onto an enemy), it's def. no FPS which is surprising considering the engine in use (HL2), but, so far (just got to downtown), it's been doable, maybe I'd hate it more if that was the way I wanted to play the game but I prefer talking my way out of a situation.

As for the linearity of the game, well most games have a route from A to C via B, but with the amount of extra missions on offer here, the feel of the game isn't constrictive. The haunted house side story was sublime. I played it in the dark and it creeped me out, and once I'd thinned out the humans in the factory, I sucked the life out of the rest of them - 'Man, better than any heroin rush'

I really liked Kotor 2, but not because of combat, heh, or it's "Star Whores" setting (more like in spite of it), but because of storyline and characters, especially Kreia. She alone made me love the game... she is so badass that her mere presence rips asunder space-time continuum of flimsy SW setting, to repeat myself :).
Even as 'semi-evil' character, she is much better then absolute most characters I've ever seen in CRPGs, up to and including Planescape.
