There was a simplistic CRPG I played some years ago called Dark Disciples. It wasn't 'Next Gen'. It wasn't some huge project that promised the world, and it didn't make the developer any money...because he made it for free. It was, however, a quaint, free CRPG that had some nice elements, especially in the puzzle environment.

Well, I thought I would look and see if Dodgy soft was still a going concern, and turns out it is. It also turns out that Dark Disciples 2 was released some time ago. For free.

So, without further ado, I give you the webpage from which you can download these games and try them out. I promise nothing, and make no claims, but they are very good free ware products that provide plenty of fun in an oldschool way.

I finished DD 1 some time ago, and played through nearly whole DD2. They are certainly interesting games. I was thinking about doing an LP of DD2 but I'm not sure if it is a good LP material.

Dark Disciples was really good, but for some reason DD2 didn't catch my interest when I played it. I'm not sure why, because they seem pretty much the same.

In the screenshots, I've seen only one character. You only control one character?

I did not play DD2 for long but there seem to be allot of big areas where there was little to do, DD1 was more compact.

Heh, that's fucking awesome. I wonder if you kill him and his costume falls off, revealing a giant dead Japanese actor.

I remember talking with Fez about these games on IRC. He seemed to think they were reasonable fun, despite low production values.

Apparently "DD3 has been posponed indefinately....". Wonder why?

The exact same thing happened with DD2 some years ago. His website even vanished, and then up a new one pops, along with DD2. I guess he gets motivation at different times.

There is another DD2 campaign being made there.

ya know guys, none of the download links on the webpage actually works.

Works for me.

BTW, the Godzilla pic and subsequent gag about a Japanese actor ruled.

I remember downloading the first one a long time ago but I don't think I ever played it. Thanks for reminding me about these, they look kinda cool from the pictures.

Nifty find, never knew there was a 2nd game and then some in the works. Indefinite as it may be, it looks like the plan is the use the still-improving DD2 Engine to make DD3.

I wonder if that expansion campaign will see another update anytime soon...last was back in Jan apparently wehreas DD2....yesterday!
