In a surprising move (especially coming from the publisher of The Guild 2), JoWood has apologized for the sorry state of Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods. Here's a translation stolen from the JoWood Forums:

Gothic 3 : Forsaken Gods is full of bugs, just as the main game was. Fans are complaining about the poor quality of the game and JoWooD felt that it's time to release a statement in this regard:

First of all we want to thank the community for showing their support and we also want to thank those who have chosen to buy the game. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible for us to release a game that could fully satisfy you, for different reasons.

The game was released this year because that was what we and the community desired. JoWooD and Trine have worked under a lot of pressure, and to repair some of the mistakes we released the game with a patch, hoping to make it better.

Michael Kairat, Executive Producer of JoWooD said: We are now getting the full "bill" from the community for our mistakes.

JoWooD Productions would like to present their apologies to the fans for releasing an unsatisfying game.

Furthermore Michael Kairat explained that in the next days a new patch will be released which will improve the quality of the game. It will be available for download on JoWooD's Official Website.

We also want to make a content patch which will include opinions, suggestions, wishes from the community. After the feedback from the community, we will release a statement regarding the patch.

Together with Spellbound we will make early beta tests for Arcania: A Gothic Tale, to be sure that past mistakes will not be repeated. JoWooD admits their mistake, and will prevent it from happening again, says Michael Kairat on behalf of the entire team.

Get a look at some of those bugs in PC Games' Gallery o' Shame. Wow, that was... unexpected. High time, too. Now let's see if they'll have to come up with excuses for Arcania as well.

JoWood is more or less getting its ass kicked because of this sentence.

"You wanted this game now, so we released it now. Its your fault! This has nothing to do with Christmas or our stockholders!"

Releasing a statement like this while a nice gesture means nothing to me. Basically they knew Gothic 3 was a buggy mess when released and here they have done it again.

Until they start releasing games actually ready for release I won't be buying another one of their games.

The fact that they outsourced the gothic development to india doesnt exactly strike as dedication to quality.

Apologies my ass. After bugfest called Gothic 3 [I waited year and a half before playing it since at the time it was published it was technically unplayable for me] community probably would gladly wait for game a bit longer just to have product that is finished.
The fact that players usually wait for games and want to have it sooner than later shouldn't be excuse for giving them unfinished game. It's poor excuse and it's kinda pushing responsibility away from publishers to players. Funny.

I was considering buying this game but now I am not. I think it would be waste of my money. I'll wait for the moment when there is some nice and cheap pack with all parts of series [so I'll get also new copies of G1 & G2] with this addon included.

Nope. They push out a buggy, unoptimized pile of shit with G3, then repeat the exact same mistake, and then offer up a half-assed apology? Fuck them.
I wholeheartedly agree.

I cannot believe they did it again.
And I think the buyers can have an idea on what to do with their apologies.

On a side note this information could be useful to realize whose were the responsibilities of the G3 release in alpha stage.
Good to know.

Three time's the charm, isn't it? Looking forward to the apology for Gothic 4, then.

I wonder how Piranha Bytes will perform with Deep Silver.

A shame. Gothic 3 could have been an awesome ending to a good series, if they had just not made some of the mistake they did.
You mean getting involved with JoWood? Yeah, they won't let Gothic end so easily.

My sentiments as well. Love 1 and 2. Just have no desire for anything past 2.

You had to be a retard to buy this in the first place. It had the stink of shovelware all over it.

That isn't an apology, it's damage control. Fixing the remaining problems with Gothic 3 or Forsaken Gods being a polished and enjoyable game would have been an apology.
