Nival Interactive is serving up more fun with the Silent Storm stuff. This time up, a commie role playing extravaganza - Hammer & Sickle!

Moscow
April 29 2005 Press release.

Nival Interactive proudly announces Hammer & Sickle, a new tactical role playing game set in the Silent Storm universe. The game is being co-developed by Novik&Co and Nival Interactive.

Set in the British-American sector of occupied Germany in the spring of 1949, you are a Soviet undercover agent who finds himself caught in the middle of an escalating confrontation between the intelligence services of the world's superpowers. You'll have to make your way through a web of cunning intrigues, setting off chain reactions that will affect the fate of the world: will it live in peace, or collapse into the chaos of World War 3?

A unique mix of turn-based and role-play, Hammer & Sickle is a brand-new gaming experience. The dizzying array of tactical solutions for each situation is greatly deepened by the fully destructible environments - while an open mission structure and the non-linear story put you in complete control of the game world.

Key Features:

Spy Story: Non-linear thriller lets you affect not only the outcome, but the whole course of the game

Real People: Character's histories and personalities affect game events and your team's cooperation

One World: You can move back and forth though all zones freely - events taking place in one zone can affect developments in others

Saving Time: like in life, time is the most important and irreplaceable resource. The passage of time significantly affects game events

Fashion Statement: What you wear can sometimes have a bigger affect on how people react to you then what you say

How Am I Spying?: Clashes with the authorities or violence against civilians will be counted on a meter, push it too hard and you'll set off WWIII

Gift of Gab: Your choice of line or even tone of voice could radically change the balance of forces and relations between characters

Always Carry Cash: Buy weapons, hire soldiers, get information - even bribe the local criminal syndicate or police to get out of trouble

Choose Your Weapon: With over 90 authentic WWII and post war models, you can choose the right gun for the right job

God bless those Russians.. Except for the spamming bastards that fill up my email and the ones that made the bots that post on our forum.

Damn good news! I was considering a crach course in russian!
Now, if they only can stay clear of JoWood as publisher I'll be real happy. :?

Nival have been a little stressed out lately it seems. In the new Hammer & Sickle forum they were happy to announce Night Watch :p

This is excellent news! We're doing an interview with Novik and his team soon in fact, so if anyone has question feel free to ask.

I just wonder, will H&M have same tiny maps like the original SS had and how will it affect things. Maybe the engine couldn`handle something bigger without gasping for air.

Well, Zombiek (head of AG.ru) got this game before release and is happily playing away, lucky bastard :). He admits that it IS a real RPG, and while it does not look really different from SS(S), it plays really different. More realistic, too - it's much harder to fix stuff now, no sci-fi elements, you cannot carry a lot of stuff with low STR, better AI, etc.
Also, it seems that you can avoid absolute most combat situation if you want to... He also said to finish the game already... but only got to the 'bad' ending (started WWIII, no doubt :)), and replaying it.
Damn, I could buy this game yesterday, but I was busy, and it's sold out already today :(.
Ok, a few days of waiting is not that bad... and btw, most dialogues was written by Koshkin, and stuff he writes is hilarious! Reminds me of Fallout humor. I wonder if will be translated properly... and dialogues in H&S will be on par (well, perhaps with less 'humor for humor's sake' and more quality... well, Koshkin himself stated something like that already on the Russian forum, I wonder how it will look like in the game itself).
Oh, and about levels... they didn't improve the engine, BUT don't you think that computers have 'a bit' improved since SS was developed? I have a gig of dual-channel DDR RAM, and a lot of people too. I guess it will readily manage maps that are 2x times larger then biggest SS ones.

No idea. But I recall it's in the works... I fear a lot might be lost in it, though... perhaps even censorship may be involved.

This is cool...but I still hope a full sequel to Silent Storm is in development.

Hope this one comes to N. America/England with a great translation. What sucks even more than the delays with European products is the translations.

Nival is giving me some hope for PC gaming. Don't screw up!

Well, heh, in fact, H&S was not made by Nival - it was made by Novic&Co. There are modmakers that managed to get help from developers of the game, got a publisher and expanded their mod into a full-scale game.
Novic is an admin of a very popular forum on military history... I bet this guy knows nearly everything about wars, WWII too, of course.
And Koshkin (whom I've mentioned above) is a guy with writer's talent that occasionaly posts extemely funny short stories on military theme there.
Well, we'll see how it works out.

Nival said in the official S3 chat we had that they may consider it AFTER Night Watch. The team doing S2/S3 do Night Watch now as far as I've understood it.
