There's a <a href="http://hellgate.blizzplanet.com/modules.php?action=Content&pa=showpage&pid=104">huge 20 question interview</a> with <b>Bill Roper</b> over at <A href="http://www.blizzplanet.com/">Blizzplanet</a> talking about <A href="http://www.hellgatelondon.com">Hellgate London</a>. The thing is massive.
<br>
<blockquote>1. How will character customization work in Hellgate: London?
<br>
<br>
Bill Roper: While players will be able to customize the basic appearance of their character to a degree upon creation by adjusting elements such as face shapes, skin tone, eye shapes and color and hair style and coloring (the final feature set is as yet undetermined), the real customization comes through playing the game. Hellgate: London is an item-heavy game, meaning that we love kicking out a TON of different weapons, armor, accessories, and so forth during every session. We utilize randomization and dynamic generation in almost every area of the game, and as one example, with over 100 base weapons this means that the potential combinations start numbering in the millions when we’re all done. To allow players to customize their characters, we’re using a "mod" system that allows specific modification of these randomly created items.</blockquote>
<br>
He doesn't actually mention the character system until two more paragraphs on this answer, so I guess he wanted to talk about items.

Abandoned Blizzard? WTF are you talking about. None of Blizzard North went to ArenaNet (GW) either. You are such a moron.

Bill Roper, David Brevik, the Schaeffers and Ken Williams and Peter Hu all left Blizzard en masse because they didn't have any creative direction over Blizzard. There was no 'abandonment'. What the fucking point of staying at a company run by French assholes at VU who take away all your creative control? They didn't want to make shit like World of Warcraft and Starcraft Ghost.

I'm sure they all wanted to make Diablo 3, but it's not like VU cared to listen.

Will this Hellgate London be the same shit game like Deus Ex, System Shock and Bloodlines?

P.S. I am the Dungeon Lords lover.

Aha. My little dwarf!

Random Items: Check.

Developers who think that's got something to do with character creation: Check.

Hellgate: London Doomed: Check.

It's looking good!

We are looking at extending this concept into other types of equipment, and even skills. This would allow two characters of the same class that have gone down the same path in terms of how they have structured their skills and equipment to still be quite different from each other.
So two characters who choose the same skills and the same equipment and go down the same path will be different? Right. Either I've got no bloody idea what the hell that's supposed to mean or the man's been drinking too much.

It was also great fun to see a hard-core FPS player’s eyes widen when the huge LEVEL 2 ACHIEVED message came up ion the screen. We really beat people over the head with that at the show since you don’t get a lot of set-up as to what you’re playing when you walk up to a game at E3. I had more than a few Shooter fanatics stop and say, “I leveled? What can I do with that?” When we’d open the character stat and inventory interface they flipped.
I bet they did.

"HUUUUuuuuUUGE" level 2 achieved message: Check.

Oh yeah.

Alright, you can insult Deus Ex and Bloodlines BUT THERE IS NO FUCKING WAY I'M GOTTA STAND HERE AND LET YOU INSULT SYSTEM SHOCK! Perhaps maybe System Shock was a wee bit too complicated for you dumbfuck mind, as evidenced by your aisine love and arrogance regarding the shittiest game in the past 2 years a.k.a Dungeon Lords

Maybe if you actually played any of the above games, you'd realize that Hellgate London is a totally fucking different kind of a game then them. It's like comparing Doom to like, well, System Shock.

Lawl that'd be expecting too much.

That's absolutely fucking rich. As Naked said, they're not even the same type of game. Oh, it's in first person, it's an RPG, it must be Deus Ex. Not much for the imagination, are you?

First. Person. Roguelike.

How fucking difficult is that to grasp?

Random items do have a lot to do with character creation. The items you equip change your stats and your gameplay style. Ever play Diablo 2? Didn't like it? I don't give a fuck. The point is that you could equip two different weapons on a character and each weapon would determine a different style of play. Bows versus javelins would be the best example I can pull from Diablo 2. To a lesser extent, something like Baranar's Star versus Lightbringer for Paladins.

DarkUnderlord takes everything Bill Roper says out of context based on a couple of paragraphs: Check. Try learning to read.

This place really is full of dumbfucks. There's not a single game that any of you like, so why even bother playing RPGs? Hell, it's not enough that Bethesda's making Fallout 3 - oh no, it's going to suck terribly because it's not Fallout 1.

No fucking shit.

Yeah, right.
Now go HERE. See?

You are such a moron.
I luv u too.

What the fucking point of staying at a company run by French assholes at VU who take away all your creative control?
That's right.
But still, damn, they were so enthusiastic and so fucking happy in all the interviews before that, and then BAM! Off they go...

No, don't get me wrong: i wasn't really blaming Bill Roper, no. You got it all too literally ^_^

I'm sure they all wanted to make Diablo 3, but it's not like VU cared to listen.
Yeah, that's what pains me...
Well, at least the strategy-game department is still intact...
Damn those VU...

Will this Hellgate London be the same shit game like Deus Ex, System Shock and Bloodlines?
You must be banned, mork.

Well the point I was trying to make is that the developers who spearheaded Blizzard North were not the ones in ArenaNet, but rather those in Flagship.

Sounds interesting.
I thought, the game will be a fucked up FPS with 2 attributes and 1 skill and disguised as a crpg.
I loved Diablo 1 and 2.
Unfortunately I do not like any Diablo clone.
I do not know why.

On a side note, wtf is up with this image?
http://www.blizzplanet.com/images/messa ... -27-05.gif

I can't believe they did that.

Anyway it's not some fucked up FPS with 2 attributes and 1 skill. It's got 4 attributes (like Diablo and D2), tons of skills and skill trees, several character classes, damage types, damage resistances, conditions (e.g. burning, poisoned, stunned, etc), tons of ph4t l3wt, item modifications, skill modifications via "nodes". Translation: Shrines from roguelikes, and a bunch of other stuff.

Anyway: First. Person. Roguelike.

Bill Roper is really the evil twin of David Gaider, notice the head hair.
