Okay, the developments with the exile of Havoc and what-not does appear to have created a rift between:
  1. those who want to join the "new town" (known as Nova Codeksia in this thread; but it's not really) and grind sirius bizness like; under the defacto leadership of Chak. Strict rules include: No personal shit; No building shit way outside of town; Lots of bitching; TOP SEKRIT NO TALKING ABOUT FIGHT CLUB;
  2. those who just want to play more free-form, without any leader or goals as such and just doing what-ever. Given the propensity for disaster of this form, obviously *some* organisation will exist in terms of "hey guys stick shit over here for that" and "plz don't mine unless you have full industry k" but it will be less formal. People can have personal areas; private houses; mansions or whatever (assuming someone can be bothered getting the resources). More public, visible presence. None of this secrety hiding shit. Taking the risks of that on the chin.
  3. those who wouldn't join any town at all and would just rough it.
The intent of 2 is a town that would incorporate those who want to do 3. That is, they'd be able to build their own settlements nearby but within walking distance of town and being able to help out in town if they want.

This poll is to gauge thoughts. I'll let a few people vote and comment before making my own comments.

One.

The way I see it either play to be good or play to fool around aka waste time without any sort of purpose. For me the choice is obvious.

No angry farmers allowed. :D

Not kidding.

More thoughts on a new town and a purpose after people have voted.

2) I'm too casual in this game to get down to time-frames and number-crunching

plus it just wasn't very fun to hear how NOTHING IS GETTING DONE from like 9 people

old style was unorganized but we were having fun - and there was a certain sense of accomplishment in seeing our town's quality level slowly rising

Ok, you want to have fun again? Let's join forces. Here is the plan: aggressive expansion towards all the good resource spots. Build walls everywhere. Build walls around people's settlements, just to piss them off, and put a claim. They can find us, they can kill us, but they can't stop it. All it takes is a couple skills, a plow, a pickaxe and a bone. We can turn the whole world of HnH into a maze. Let us become the master builders, The Wallorisers!

Okay, there are obviously enough people that setting up a Nova Codeksia would be plausible. Even if you are all weekenders, it'll be a place for us to cruise and totally rock the fuck out and shit, Codex style. Without the pressure.

This might turn out to be yet another giant cluster-fuck but it's worth a shot and hey, building shit is always fun. :)

Those that are more hardcore we'll refer on to new town. Those that wish can come up and join us. Gimme a few days to sort shit out with those interested in game so we settle on a location.

Hmmm... I like this plan...

Fuck that shit,
BLOOD AND GLORY!

Played this shit too much to care about building anything anymore. Maybe after the map reset (or some major updates).

Btw this poll is a good example of why we don't get good games anymore because you're all either too casual fucks or don't even play the games you are "interested" in.

Fuck no. You just don't get that we play the game as a community game, not a fucking grindfest to show off your e-penis.

I call BS. the game demands HOURS a day if you want to be on par and I'm not willing to dedicate 3+ hours a day to a game that, while very charming and interactive, is barely in its infantile stage and offers a grand whole fucking nothing as a reward. The game is nothing but grind - it has all the trimmings of a simulation game but since all city building and infrastructure is power-game-handled to fit the most efficient grind method possible it loses that element.

If I wanted a second job then I'd get a second job. I play games for fun - and a community based MMO that demands its members to be very active is a harsh mistress, especially if said MMO doesn't offer much in return.

If anything this poll is a good example of why the codex tends to dislike MMOs so much - little to no actual reward for the time you put in, endless grinding, and the need to be constantly active to stay "competitive".

If doing the hermit thing and casual town thing leads to people quitting the game after a month - so be it, at least that month was fun and wasn't a constant hassle of WHO USED THE GOOD CLAY WHERE IS MY RING STOP BUILDING CABINS WHOS FUCKING CHEST IS THIS IN MY WAY ABLSDFLASJDFLKAJ

edit: oh right, and the goddamn server issues. I literally wasted over an hour of boat time going from retardo land to codex to drop off the fucking x-roads sign, a fucking hour of just boating to another town all because I lost connection while on claimed land

Now...

Events of late led to a discussion amongst Codexians about what our goals in the game are and what it is we want to do. It identified a clear difference between those who want to play hard-core and those who just want to login for a few hours every once in a while and muck-around.

A number of Codexians have identified they want a more casual-style town without all the sekkrity bizness.

After a bit of soul-searching, I've realised I fit more into that category as well.

I agree that "loners" don't suit the goals of the Circle of Phoenix. Such types will simply be naffing all the food or stealing all the high Q shit for their own purposes without doing much (or doing very little) in return. This is unfair on those who worked hard to make that shit.

Such types also aren't online often enough to grind alts. I've also personally recognised that I won't have much time to do that either.

I've decided I'm more a casual loner-type player and certainly at this stage, I want to enjoy that aspect of the game rather than becoming a hard-core town-player. It's clear my play style doesn't fit within the Circle of Phoenix and that there are a handful of Codexians who feel the same way. That said, there are also some who do enjoy that style and want to stay in Phoenix.

To that end, I am leaving Phoenix. A few of the other Codexians have also expressed a desire to move out and setup a Nova Codeksia in a super-grid far away (in an area we had previously scouted). The intent being it will be a more casual community. To a much lesser extent, as the "public face of Codexia", there was simply a desire to establish a town for Codexians.

I'd rate it a solid 89% chance of being a complete cluster-fuck with nothing ever getting done but it is how I and others want to enjoy the game.

In short, those Codexians who are after a more casual play-style will be welcome in Nova Codeksia. Those who want to get more involved and play hard-core style we will refer to Phoenix.

I hope this split can occur on amicable terms and certainly, if we ever do manage to set Nova Codeksia up, I hope we can trade with Phoenix. I'm not entirely certain of everyone who is leaving but I pretty much know that it's mostly those who either never made it out here in the first place or those who have since left already.

Obviously the issue with Havoc did play a part in this but I think it simply brought to a head something that was bubbling underneath the surface anyway. I suppose the best way to put this is that a number of us simply want to do "our own thing" while online with friends.

As I said, I hope one day we can trade (assuming we can get anything organised) and that this won't cause any long-term damage or harm.

The farm I have setup will obviously be available for you guys to do whatever you wish with it. I've planted one crop of each type. It's a little further out of town than is perhaps entirely useful though (East, then North, follow the path from the village).

I'll be packing my things today and moving out.

I would like to take the following things with me, that are already at my farm:
- 2 chests (which I'll be putting some seeds in)
- Scythe
- Pick-axe
- Metal Saw

I will return:
- The Merchant Ring

Everything else, the hut with the cellar, cupboards and carts I will obviously leave at the farm. And yeah, I make torchposts out of tree stumps. :)

Of course I expect to be demoted as a mod of these boards and kicked out of here now. :)

And, while I acknowledge I didn't do much, it has been nice playing with you guys at Phoenix and hopefully your plans will come to fruition. Of course if you ever need more signs to Codexia or if there's anything else like that, let me know.
I'm outta there folks. Taking the long way by boat back to Old Codexia before heading out to scout Nova Codeksia.

Chak graciously allowed me to keep the awesome Merchant Ring he gave me. He also said anyone else who wants to leave who has also been given rings is welcome to keep them as a sign of goodwill between Phoenix and Nova Codeksia.

Those that want a more organised community: Phoenix is the place to be. Let me know and I can set you up with the details. Those who just want to do whatever around a town, with a lot less organisation it's Nova Codeksia for you.

Yeah, heading out that way now. Just getting back over the supergrids.

... and the server crashed. While I was carrying a boat. FUCK. I'm going to have to do that again. This time, I'll bring dreams and setup hearthfires all along the way so I don't have to REDO THE FUCKING TRIP JUST BECAUSE I CAN'T LOG BACK IN WHERE MY BOAT DROPPED.
