I have some questions about Grim Fandango

... And they are directed to Noir movie buffs. I know the game is permeated with references to these old movies, but since I'm ignorant on the subject I missed them. Well, except Rubacava, which is an obvious big parody on Casablance, a movie that I actually watched.

Is every chapter based on a movie? Which one?

Also, is Glottis a parody of black characters in these movies? I did get that impression since he plays the role of sam during the rubacava part, and because of his voice, quirks and even his ocupation(car mechanic and driver). I wonder how come the liberal socialist crowd didn't grind teet in it if that is the case.

As far as I can tell, Rubacava is the only big direct reference to a specific movie. Else the game borrows elements from the genre, like a style inspired by the '50s, most characters smoking, etc.

As for Glottis, well, I guess that if he was supposed to be a black guy he wouldn't be so orange.

Its a long read and rambling read but here's an interview with Tim Schafer that partially answers your question. Search Double Indemnity for the most relevant part.

As to specific film references, here's a thread I found a few years back when searching the same thing.

http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.p ... did=123371

I know there are a ton more not listed there but many are so minor its hard to remember without playing the game again.

The Double Indemnity part is mainly about the main character being an ordinary salesman rather than something romanticised like a PI.

That said it's a pretty good film, and much better than Casablanca.

Oh, I am somewhat disappointed. I actually thought every chapter was a movie parody, but it is far from it. Thanks for the info anyway.
