Am I like dumb or something but what does everyone keep talking about Fallout's atmosphere and black humor have to do with what makes Fallout Fallout?

I thought it was because it was an excellent pen-and-paper adaptation for a cRPG. Yes, it had a great story. Yes, it had great atmosphere. Yes, it had black humor. But those could have easily happened in a golden era Lucasarts adventure game.

I'm being bombarded on the Joystiq comments pages by these people because apparently I just don't get what Bethsoft is selling.

Tim Cain, 2002: My idea is explore more of the world and more of the ethics of a postnuclear world, not to make a better plasma gun.

Bethesda, 2007: Violence is funny.

It's almost as if it is some sort of twisted self-parody. You have been outdone and then some, compared to that fake interview. It's like a 12 year old is directing the project. It shouldn't be long before we get to hear about the hookers and thongs.

Killer toasters and cars that always explode. There's your role-playing and true Fallout spirit right there.

I also like the way that there's no genuine reason to dislike the game. If you don't like it, you're just being a difficult Fallout fan. No matter what Bethesda puts out, there's no possible reason why people could dislike it.

:(

God, that just makes me sad. I don't care about the exploding heads you've put so much effort into or the nuclear powered derelicts that scatter the world you've created. I want a place that has problems and interesting, sometimes ambiguous, solutions. I don't want to be led down the dramatic path you've laid out for the character. I don't want to listen to your celebrity voice work... that just doesn't interest me at all. Make me think, consider my options, even make mistakes. I want to the chance to fail.

I was thinking the exact same thing - it's as if they went from merely disappointing to downright nonsensical in a flash with the release of this new batch of information. Barbie heads? Toasters? What the fuck? I'm having to read through these articles just to see this shit with my own eyes, and I still can hardly believe what I'm reading.

Codex should have new fake interview. This time with T.Howard, pretending that he is very smart and thoughtful.

Hey, a good fake is a something not recognised as one outright.
This one would NOT be a good fake :D.

I think the Joystiq commenters that's grilling the OP is in for a really big surprise when they play Fallout 3, continually asking themselves: 'hey, I just hit that supermutant. Why didn't it die ?' or things like this 'hey, I just talked to the Sheriff, I don't what I've said, but now he won't talk to me' ?? WTF??'or this one *--- why won't the head explode, like it was shown in the previews??'

Forget about Todd Howard's comment about violence is funny.Apparently Todd likes the bloody mess perk (or trait?) so much so he showed (it) off to the 100 reporters in the movie theater where he showed them, the reporters, the preview of Fallout 3.

The important thing to remember is, according to other previews at IGN, Gamespot and the Gametrailer Interview with Emil P. - you can choose a different route than that which involves using the bloody mess perk a lot.

I'm still a bit skeptical, though....

Is it April 1st?
April 1st was delayed by three months.

But yeah, all this is really bizarre.

Oh my, one preview worse than the next.

But I guess I understand now why Todd loves Bloody Mess so much: Fallout 3 will be such a mess that the hearts of all Fallout fans will bleed...

I can't read the descriptions for the Toaster and the Suck-O-Tron without thinking of The Goonies.

First a nuclear catapult, now a toaster gun that shoots out dolls. Bethesda, as usual, lied when they said they wanted to make FO 3 more like the original FO. Why can't the Fallout series just be allowed to rest in peace? It doesn't deserve to be raped like this.

The Toaster reminds me of MDK2, which was probably a better game on many levels.

It had more than a few shortcomings, but I'd say it's probably Bioware's best effort to date. Probably because they had Shiny's awesome first game to work from.

Why are people bashingt he graphics? Looks great.

I might buy this game just to spite the Codex - then again, everyone knows 75% of Copdexers have already preordered it.

Why do you lie???
I know for sure that King Comrade hasn't preorder yet and since we are all his alts, it's certain that 100% of the Codex hasn't preorder the game.
