It's funny that two of the key players behind Fallout/Troika are now working on MMOs.

Or depressing.

Making Jason Anderson work on an MMO (no matter which one, they all suck by definition) can only be summarized as follows: a total waste of his talent...

In anniversary interview on NMA Jason actually states that he likes MMO's and he want to make one.

If you could make any computer game that you wanted, which would it be and why?

I'd really enjoy working on an MMO, since that is the way I believe rpgs are going. The breadth and depth of the worlds and the amount of involvement of the PC intrigues me and I find myself coming up with ideas I would like to see implemented in one. I have been playing several different MMOs and I can't help but think of things that I'd like to put in them. I have a million MMO ideas in my head that I'd love to get out.

So it is his idea. If you like it or not isn't really matter. He want to make MMO so he will. As far as I know Tim Cain is also in some company making MMO. Boyarsky is in Blizzard working on some unannounced project, considering Blizzard and their last activity maybe it is also some MMO. Well, It looks like grand trio is kinda lost for us, SP lovers. Tough luck. But what you going to do? I really dont wish them to make something without puting heart in it. THAT would be waste. If they prefer MMO over SP for time being so be it.

Now where is that comic of Interplay's 'office' from a while back? It was something like a homeless guy in a cardboard box in some dark alley (with a delivery guy asking if that was the 'office' he was delivering to). Either Ctrl-Alt-Del or PennyArcade.

I almost forgot! When Interplay whored Fallout out to Bethsoft(thus delivering the killing blow to Troika) they kept the Fallout MMO rights.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_D._Anderson : After Troika Games collapsed, Anderson left the game industry to sell real estate [1].
That must have worked out swimmingly if he is crawling back to Herve. I hope he's more successful with ruining Fallout. Oh wait Bethsoft already beat him to the punch! Poor Andy... Interplay is gonna stiff him on the paychecks too.

Hmmm sounds like something Chris Avellone would draw. Spiteful bastid.

It's not exactly accurate. His wife, Sharon Anderson, works in real estate, he's more of a handy man. I don't think they've done bad, they both just missed gaming.

Could be smart business, sell the single player Fallout rights to Bethesda, allow them to rebuild the brand and expand the market, then capitalise by developing a Fallout MMO. This Fallout MMO will directly compete with Bethesda's TES online, Fallout having Herve and Jason, will surely crush that of the incompetents at Bethesda, ruining the company, allowing Interplay to pick up the single player Fallout rights for a song.

Herve's a genius!

What the Hell is Anderson doing getting into bed with Herve? That's like selling your soul not to Satan but rather to one of his completely inconsequential imps.

Although I have to admit it's another brilliant move by Herve - get the fans ever so slightly optimistic by hiring one of the legendary FO originators - and then put him to work on some other Pie in the Sky project...I'm sure monkeys could run Interplay better than this.

Indeed. I couldn't believe that this was mentioned only on page 2 and not one poster seemed to remember that. Have you fuckers been reading anything at all, or just here to bash whatever seems fun to bash to you?

Here's the Codex thread of the original interview:

Too early to have the least optimistic impression. Herve has a mere $75 million compared to the money-pumping machine of ZeniMax, which recently acquired $300 millions for whatever purposes, but the guess is for TESO. Money aside, Herve and Beth as a collective entity seem to be equally incompetent. Beth at least have a functioning stuff no matter how handicapped.

I've always thought that Herve would take the money and simply let the game pass on to Beth after the deal wears off. Ghosts of now dead Interplay divisions tormenting his soul?

Yep, it's a downer.

They arise and awake from their cryogenic state, only to hop aboard the FPS-MMORPG bandwagon.....

.....in conformist clickfestian fashion.

One *certainly* wouldn't want to oppose or in any way disempower the sylistic monopoly which has effectively hijacked and nearly eradicated the genuine CRPG, especially when the alternative/indie CRPG scene is showing recent signs of vitality. If ye can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Blinded by the light$, woke up like a DOUCHE, in the middle of the (greedy conformist) night.

From hero to ho.

Oh dear lord. Grow up.

You are the one that delivered the killing blow to Troika when you didn't sell all your worldly possesions, give the money to Troika and then spend your life robbing banks for them.

Wow, this venture is bound to succeed, from their SEC filings:
As of September 30, 2007, our cash balance was approximately $18,000.
Our outstanding accounts payable and current liabilities totaled approximately
$3.8 million .

WE BELIEVE THERE MAY HAVE BEEN OR MAY BE ABOUT TO BE A SALE BY TITUS INTERACTIVE SA (PLACED IN INVOLUNTARY BANKRUPTCY IN JANUARY, 2005) OF A MAJORITY OF OUR VOTING STOCK.

Titus owned approximately 58 million shares of common stock and had
majority ownership of us.

We are currently operating without a credit agreement or credit
facility.

Although for the year ended December 31, 2006, our net income was $3.1
million, $4.5 million was from one time non-recurring events, and we have
incurred significant net losses in previous years and $4.5 million did not
generate cash flow.

That's how Interplay's SEC filings have read since the closing of BIS, Thrombone.

Still not dead.

But yeah, chances of success look slim.

It's my understanding that Beth gets the rights to FOOL back if Interplay doesnt raise X amt of dollars within a year of fundraising. Which makes a sick kind of sense. Who'd you rather have Beth or Interplay developing something so foolish.

Den of stinking evil.
Bethesda will buy the rights to Fallout MMO long before this version ever sees the sun. (I suspect they are already working on TES Online). Perhaps Herve is trying to create the illusion that his version is viable so he can get a bigger payday on the inevitable rights sale (which is the only profitable thing the company has done in the last five years). Seems pretty transparent.
