A good place to own a gun.

The original DD has crap combat, actually the mass amounts of it was the worst part of the the game. But the great atmosphere and music more than made up for it.

Wait, I thought DD was a hack n slash.

Looks like the game's full of bugs. They've already found a game stopping one. Check this thread out for more info.

I'm not that far in the game but the combat sure is hack n slash, but there are a lot of other things to do and explore.

Whats the dialogue like? And how do the skills and abilities compare with DD1?

This is why Germans release the games first on their language, they have to prepare the release for a international sale with most bugs fixed.

Risen will be the same, just hope they address the bugs.

I will definite buy the game, looks interesting.

A little review

The game is not German, it is from Belgium. But their publisher is and they did a pretty good job for a publisher.

You of all people should know that a game that features c&c is pretty prone to bugs. And for that it is pretty good. But I never complained over "bug-ridden" games anyways since I don't usually run into these nasty things.

Can you post some screenshots of towns and NPCs? The official ones mostly show combat and monsters.

Well thankfully the Germans are currently beta testing the game for us US people. So it should be in better shape when we it is released here.

Bla Bla. I woudln't call it a Beta. Soon I'll have finished the game, so what beta?

I'm not even sure the game will see a release in America. it just isn't dumbed down enough for that market.

That the game has a Xbox 360 port actually implies that the game should be more polished rather than it being a sloppy port.

Microsoft has worked towards the goal of a shared development platform between PC and a console since the days of the Dreamcast. Windows CE sucked but I think this was mainly because it was not an inhouse-project of Microsoft alone. This has changed of course with the Xbox and the following Xbox 360.

If on the other hand the game would be on two different consoles, this would mean that the developer needed to please two very different standards and hardware compatibilities which would very likely result in a bad PC port.

the screenshots look nice. Is there a demo around or do you need to not remove a demo from an inventory?

Well, damn. I suppose that if there's no demo for the nazi version, there won't be any coming for the english either.

I really fucking hate this trend of no demoes. The devs are willingfully shooting themselves in the feet with that.

I don't buy that. Sacred was also huge and open and it had a demo. Hell, you could even give the demo a half or full hour long time limit and it would also work.

The first half an hour or so in the tutorial also sucks and I think they learned from their mistake with DD1 where the demo consisted mostly of the first dungeon which was really not the high point of the game.

Who says it's a port? It plays perfectly as a PC game.

I did not say the PC version is a port but there are a lot comments with this mindset behind them in this thread and I felt the need to stand up for Microsoft (I was also influenced by the fact that Risen is also PC and Xbox 360 only).

What do you think about my review, am I praising the game too much? I only played a bit more than 10-15 hours and judging by your screenshots you seem to be pretty close to completion.

With the difference that Sacred has large areas with comparatively few linear quests and DD2 has comparatively small areas with a lot of multiple solution quests. Giving out a time limited demo is an invitation to piracy. You might check the DD1 demo for writing and quests. Combat is a huge improvement I think. But then again DD1 really shines in its exploration aspect which cannot be shown in a demo. You could also read my review linked to in one of my earlier posts.

Good review. I'm almost at completion, but there's a game stopping bug that hinders me to complete the main quest. I've already reported that and Larian is looking into this. Hopefully we get a console command to trigger the quest flag, because I don't want to wait so long for another patch.

Pro-tip:

The german version actually has a full english text translation (incl. UI, quests, dialogue etc., everything) that you can enable with a regedit.

The location is Hkey_local_Machine\(X64KeyHere)\Larian\Divinity2, just change German to English.

You'll have to delete the voiced dialogue file Dialogs.dv2 from Divinity 2/Win32/Packed/, otherwise the game will hang in certain points. So you'll get text-only dialogue, obviously, but at least it'll be english.

Well, at least they're working to get rid of as many bugs as they can, while improving a number of other things.

From a forum post about the latest patch:

"The patch is ready, has been going through testing for some time now and we're waiting for QA to release it. Should be any day now.

The list of improvements is quite impressive I think, and we'll be releasing an entire list when the patch is out. In a nutshell: lots of UI improvements, different difficulty levels, extra graphics settings to increase the quality (significantly) a bunch of graphic improvements (e.g. swimming, animation speeds,...), a high-res texture pack, a number of optimisations, and of course a number of bugfixes."

I remember a day when most games were released in a relatively bug free state. Thank you INTERNET.

I have it and play(ed) it with the english registry edit

My background: Been playing crpgs since Wizardry1 on the apple. Mapped Bards Tale darkness teleporting spinner rooms and lived through c-64 ultima5 disc drive speeds (look north...wait 5 minutes...you see nothing, still lloved them all).

I can say with all my crpg review skills and background that it is thoroughly mediocorallly very "new gen"y cross platformy oblliviony and all around average.

It seems fun and I enjoyed the 5 hours or so I played it but have since got drifted to other things and reinstalled wiz8, downloaded bg1 tutu to finally finish bg1, started a new game of Adom and Crawl stone soup then surfed for vintage 80's porn (80's forever).

Now I am just bored and tired and wondering if I need a break from games for a while and its actually me that is the problem with all these new games or maybe they actually are missing something.

Not sure. I think its good but I am not going to keep playing it. That about sums it up I think.
